EPIC - Season 1 Part 3
TheManxMissile
Between Hanzen and now Burton this is one of the seasons best races for EPIC riders. Adrien again fighting hard and a Top5 GC finish is still well on the cards, as is another stage win possiblity. Ulissi i think has now done enough to secure his win barring anything really unlucky.

YES BURTON

So glad Argos could finally let him express himself

There are 3 stages left, two hilly summit finishes and 1 pure Sprint stage. Generally Voss has performed better than Ulissi, so a surprise winner in Voss may not be far away Smile

Go on Josh lad. Well deserved after a battling season. Pleased he could repay Argos in the end. Could still get a top 10 too but KoM is probably more realistic.

Ulissi still battling hard to be able to stay in the yellow jersey Smile

Burton Banana Hoping he can keep the GC top 10 and KoM.

So happy I signed him already, it would have gotten a lot more difficult now. Pfft

Or wait he can lose it, but the chances are really small Smile Fumeaux is the only one that can take it from him, but with him being so high up in the GC, should make it impossible for him to come into a break, which is required to get the necessary points Smile

Interview with Josh Burton

i.imgur.com/7uxOTo6.png

Today we're joined by Josh Burton, that will comment on his stage victory yesterday and hear his plans for the future.

So what was the opening plan of the day?

Well, the GC here had been a disaster so far after getting caught in a silly split on stage four, so myself and the rest of the team were just trying to rescue something from the race. Seeing as I'm more or less the only reason the team are here at all, I knew I had a point to prove and so I made it my mission to leave everything on the road in search of a stage win.

You knew exactly when to attack on the climbs, it was like you have raced on them your whole life, Is this your first time here in Wales?

Absolutely not. The short, steep hills in this region are something I've always been good at and I have been here often in Junior races, including winning the Junior Tour of Wales last year. It's a lovely place to ride a bike, as long as you don't mind big gradients! Caerphilly Mountain is right up my street and I knew this was probably my best chance of a stage win this week.

Regarding the KoM jersey, mathematically you can still lose it to Fumeaux, but with his ranking in the GC you are almost certain to keep it, what are you most pleased with : The stage or the Jersey?

Well, naturally my first Pro win is what I'm more happy with at the moment. I've had a long season and I'm just delighted to repay Argos - Shimano for their support and belief in me with a victory. The KoM jersey is something I will always be going for throughout my career, so to get the first one here in Britain will be great. And it's more points for the team which they need right now so it all adds up.

What are the plans for the future?

To win a Grand Tour! Maybe, one day. But that's a long way off right now. My near future will be moving to Cannondale next year to hopefully help their climbing squad out. I'd like to obviously win a World Tour race at some point in the near future, maybe a stage in a week long race like Catalunya or Poland. But that will depend on my new manager's plan for 2014 and where I fit in to that. I need to improve my endurance over both long distances and multiple days to reach the top though.

Your victory today proved that ever since the EPIC organisation took over, talents have been performing on the big stage, how does that feel?

It feels great. It shows that we belong here and because we're all young, some of us may be able to reach the very top and stay there for many years. I'm looking forward to catching up with the other British guys in a few weeks at the World Championships, as we've all had our own successes this season. Hanzen and Birtles have had some great results this year and I'm looking forward to supporting them and having fun along the way.

"Miscalculations"

Having raced in the north-west of England four days previously, the peloton will find themselves in the south-west of the country for the race’s sixth stage. And, although the race’s general classification will have undergone significant reshuffles in that time, this is likely to be its decider.

The first-category climb of Haytor is the second summit finish in this year’s race (also its first in 10 editions) and represents the last real chance for the GC favourites to gain time.

The stage departs from Sidmouth, another place that will show off perfectly the natural beauty Britain has to offer. It boasts views of the Jurassic Coast and impressive red-coloured cliffs, while its beaches overlooking the English Channel.

Sry I miscalculated the KoM points left, as I didn't know that there were points at the finish Sad

Marc De Maar really is a bad joke now. So OP in single race mode.

Shame about the KoM but Burton up to 6th ahead of De Vries and Wiggins really is something.

Another podium finish for Hanzen. Up to 3rd on GC, and i didn't see that coming! Points competition looking pretty nailed on. Would love one more stage win though...

2 sprinter stages left now, CCC has been quite anonymous so two podiums from Abundi is required in order to call this one successful...

Really surprised by both Hanzen and Burton too. Didn't expect Burton to be ablemto hang on at last
