World Championships RR

Stage Preview

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/World%20Championships/RouteRR_zpsa4382fce.jpg

@MrUfo87: And we’re off with the World Championships RR 2014 in Ponferrada. Let’s go!
@MrUfo87: Attack from Jonas Ahlstrand. He gets two riders with him.
@MrUfo87: Frank, Ciolek and Bakelants attack as well. Jungels counters, Cummings and Parisien counter.
@MrUfo87: Australia, the team from current World Champion Simon Gerrans, is setting up a high pace in the peloton.
@LFreire: Haven’t seen a Spanish rider yet...
@MrUfo87: The breakaway got caught.
@MrUfo87: Finally we have a breakaway. It contains twelve riders. Biggest names: Costa, Frank, Chavanel, Peter Velits and Bakelants. The Belgians are controlling the peloton, which is three minutes behind the breakaway.
@LFreire: And no Spaniards in it...
@WatsonIan: @LFreire: No Americans either.
@SobczykIgor: @WatsonIan: @LFreire: There is a Polish rider in it!
@MrUfo87: The Colombians are leading the pelotons together with the Belgians. I miss @RemuzJosé.
@RemuzJosé: @MrUfo87: I’m here, watching home.
@MrUfo87: @RemuzJosé: Me either.
@LFreire: Four minutes lead now. The Spaniards are hiding and then suddenly they’ll be there.
@MrUfo87: @LFreire: Watch out, the Italians are strong as well.
@LFreire: @MrUfo87: We’re stronger.
@MrUfo87: @LFreire: I miss Contador, Valverde and Rodriguez in the Spanish squad. They’re not as strong as they could be.
@LFreire: @MrUfo87: It doesn’t matter how good your team is, as long as you take the victory.
@MrUfo87: @LFreire: That’s completely right. Look at our team.
@MrUfo87: Suddenly an attack from inside the peloton. It’s Matti Breschel. We haven’t seen him a lot in his Champion System jersey this season.
@MrUfo87: Thirteen leaders now, they have a gap from five minutes to the peloton.
@MrUfo87: Ninety kilometres to go, five laps to go and the gap is seven minutes.
@LFreire: There are the Spaniards! They’re closing down the gap together with.... the French?
@MrUfo87: France doesn’t have a bad team but I don’t see many riders who could finish it. In my opinion only Voeckler could be good enough to take the title.
@MrUfo87: We see the first riders losing contact to the peloton. The biggest name? Gustav Larsson.
@LFreire: @MrUfo87: And Alexander Kristoff
@MrUfo87: @LFreire: I expected this from Kristoff, but I thought that Larsson could hold on for a longer time.
@MrUfo87: Fourty kilometres to go, or two laps. The gap to the breakaway is only 3,5 minutes. Wiggins and Boasson Hagen aren’t in the peloton anymore, just like Lutsenko.
@LFreire: Puncture for Voeckler!
@MrUfo87: 23 kilometre to go, and there’s the attack from Philippe Gilbert! Nobody counters. Are the others not strong enough or is Gilbert too early?
@MrUfo87: Only eleven kilometres to go and Gilbert passes the breakaway. His gap is a bit more than a minute.
@MrUfo87: 1,5 minute lead for Gilbert with three kilometres to go. Looks like he’ll take his second world title here.
@MrUfo87: Philippe Gilbert is the new world champion!
@MrUfo87: Breschel finishes second, Voeckler third, Galland fourth and former world champion Gerrans fifth.
@LFreire: Rojas finished 7th, Antón 9th. That’s better than Slagter’s 10th place. That means 1-1.
@MrUfo87: @LFreire: It may be 1-1 but at least we have a title.
@LFreire: @MrUfo87: Next year we’ll have one as well!
@MrUfo87: Urán 6th, Rojas 7th, Marcato 8th, Antón 9th and Slagter 10th.

Great solo win for Gilbert Grin

MrUfo87
sutty68: He was by far the strongest. I mean, 23 kilometres solo, that's impressive.

Bikex
Great win for Gilbert there and totally realistic TT result. :lol:
I like the way you reported the WC races. Wink

MrUfo87
Bikex: Thanks, glad you like it! Smile I actually only do this for the World Championships, because we don't participate as a team there. If there are more people who like this report style I could consider to do it more often. Wink

the_hoyle
I really like the twitter style reporting for the WC races. It is different, and once I was used to it, it was really entertaining Smile

September was a very good month for us. With a stage victory and the general classification in own Rheinland-Pfalz Rundfahrt we were quite successful. In October we’ll take some rest and some riders will go to Italy for the Coppa Sabatini to end the season. It has been a very long season but it was a great one. Hopefully we can finish it in style in Italy and after that celebrate the start of the vacation!

Stage Preview

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Coppa%20Sabatini/Stage_zps25142911.jpg

Today was the final race of the season, and after that we finally have holiday! There were still some riders who wanted to give it a try. We had Tom Rodriguez in the breakaway. When a rider attacked at the end, we didn't went with him, but that wasn't the right choice. He kept the lead and won here! We didn't do too bad, but it could've been much better. Nevertheless, the season is over. At least, for the riders. For me as manager there are some busy months to come. Soon you'll get all the reviews about this season and of course the changes for next season. See ya soon!

After quite a long time I found some motivation to continue. I hope some of you guys will follow this. Still have to edit some things in the database which I don't really like but first we'll post the final posts of the 2014 season. Hope to start racing soon. Smile

World Tour Results - 2014

The World Tour traditionally started in January with the Tour Down Under. Sagan is already in a very good shape at that moment and completely defeats the whole peloton by winning five of the six stages.

Sagan is still in good shape in March, when he wins the Tirreno - Adriatico. Iglinskiy did a very good job by winning Paris - Nice. Mark Cavendish took a back-to-back victory at Milan - San Remo.

The GC contenders didn't perform very well in Catalunya so there was a chance for other riders to win there. Rui Costa did it, just before Jan Barta and Vasil Kiryienka.

After that we had the cobble races. Youngster Salvatore Puccio showed that he's a very big talent by winning the E3. A real star to look forward to in the future. After his breakthrough it was Fabian Cancellara who took the Flemish Triple by winning Gent - Wevelgem, the Ronde van Vlaanderen and Paris - Roubaix.

In the meantime Rui Costa and Vasil Kiryienka battled each other again, this time in the Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco. Kiryienka won, with Costa on a second place.

The hilly classics came up. Moreno Moser took a great victory by winning the Amstel Gold Race, while Bauke Mollema gave the Dutch a reason to celebrate after he won La Flèche Wallonne. Simon Gerrans won Liège - Bastogne - Liège.

Team Katusha totally dominated the Tour de Romandie with Rodriguez and Moreno finishing first and second. Moser was still in a good shape and finished third.

The first grand tour of the year, the Giro d'Italia, was a battle between Rigoberto Urán, Damiano Cunego, Romain Kreuziger and Daniel Martin. Urán was the strongest after he took over the leader jersey from Cunego in the final time-trial. Cunego was the big surprise. It looked like he'd finally win another GC after his Giro victory in 2004, but unfortunately for him and for Italy he was beaten by Urán with less than a minnute.

The GC contenders for the Tour finally showed themselves in June. Contador won the Critérium Dauphiné in front of Pinot and Rodriguez, while Wiggins took the victory in the Tour de Suisse in front of Andy Schleck and Alejandro Valverde.

The race of the season, Le Tour de France, was won by Contador in front of Froome and Andy Schleck. It's Contador's revenge after he finished second behind Froome last year.

The Tour de Pologne is a race which isn't very important for many riders, so the winner is always quite surprising. This year it was Amador who took the victory, with Tiernan-Locke and Roy finishing second and third.

The Eneco Tour was a Belgium-Dutch party in their own countries. Boonen won, before Terpstra and De Gendt. Meanwhile it was Daniel Martin who won the Clásica San Sebastian in Spain.

Martin was in great shape and that was visable in the Vuelta. There weren't many mountain stages so hilly riders were able to finish in the top-10. Philippe Gilbert surprised by taking third place in the gc. Daniel Martin won his first grand tour, Igor Antón finished second. Antón is still not able to wash away the bitter taste after he fell and gave up in the leader jersey back in 2010.

Tom Boonen was still in a very good shape after he won the Eneco Tour. He took the victory in Germany in the Vattenfall Cyclassics as well, in front of a surprising Theo Bos. Paul Martens won the GP Ouest France Plouay and took the World Tour race in Québec as well, while Dries Devenyns won in Montréal.

The mountain time trial at the World Championships was surprisingly won by Laurens Ten Dam, who'll wear the world champion TT jersey next year. A strange look. Philippe Gilbert took his second world title after finishing solo in Spain.

We didn't see Jurgen van den Broeck a lot this year, but he surprisingly took the victory at Il Lombardia. Coppel finished on a surprising third place.

The final race of the season, the Tour of Beijing, was another Belgium-Dutch party. This time it was Wilco Kelderman who beat Belgians Tim Wellens and Philippe Gilbert.
