Does anyone think Wiggins is now out of contention? He seems out of it. I'm liking Evans for the podium...for the first time in history.
Not yet. If you saw last climb, Nibali had 1 tired teammate, Evans had none and Wiggins had 3 teammates. And this is a team sport. Today it did not affect Nibali much but on some other mountains it will be a problem. |

Garmin say Hesjedal may retire from the race.
Why? What does he possibly need a rest for?
Tour? Vuelta? Basically any other big race he could actually do well in?
Would be the best solution, imo. No point in suffering through the Giro if he's ill and out of contention. Better to recover and focus on something else.

I agree, I really felt sad for Hesjedal in this Giro, he kept on trying but as the race progress, he's loosing more time on the other GC contenders and being dropped easily, and on that stage 10 he finished 72nd, way down below. Well, it's simply over for him.

Hesj might ride well in the Tour, I think it's more his terrain than this giro anyway. |

how did Kangert manage to finish so high? Wasn't he dropped early before the Uran attack and when Agnoli was still working hard for Nibali?
He was. I'm guessing he had a bad moment earlier on the climb, recovered and paced himself to the top.
Kangert time is weird yes..Same time Agnoli who did amazing job today..he also feeded Kangert and lost over 8 min. at the end. Like Kangert would have ride just for himself.
he also rode the TT at 100%, which is absolutely stupid for a domesqique. seems like he is not that committed to nibbles... |

In related news, Belkin is now in talks with Team Blanco. So maybe we shall see Gesink better after a sponsor change? Additionally, whoever it was that said Hesjadal could win TDF and Vuelta: that's too hopeful. Hesjadal isn't good enough...

Yeah, that must be it, Gesink is not strong enough because of his sponsor

It is all pretty much downhill but no break after the first hour of racing with 53.5km covered
Everyone knows it's breakaway day today and 120 riders want to be in it?

Gesink functions much better with a Belkin router. His IP adress changes and his upload speed will storm upwards |

All but 3 teams represented there (Astana, Lampre, Lotto) they have 4 minutes very quickly and the pack probably won't see them until the team buses.
Also how does Cycling News live coverage never know anything until the whole of the rest of Twitter knows - e.g. the break composition?

Yeah probably but hopefully someone will challenge. They won't get that much rope either as Di Luca and Petrov are "just" 13 minutes back. |

Astana should let breakaway go and let someone else take lead. We all know Nibali and Evans can drop Petrov or Di Luca in mountains later on. But they don't have strength to control race for 2 weeks now. |

In the same way "we all knew" Arroyo could be dropped in the mountains in 2010? |

Di Luca is not a rider I would give those 13 minutes to.
