Rheinland-Pfalz Rundfahrt – Stage 4

Stage Preview

*** Stefan Schumacher
** Airkatz Durán
* Eduardo Pinto

Today was an almost flat stage with some climbs and hills, but it’s not the day on which the classification will change a lot.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Rheinland-Pfalz%20Rundfahrt/Stage%204/PCM1583_zps03fa0c27.jpg

There was one rider from Euphony who rode solo the whole day. It was Planckaert. The Hot Wheels – Porsche team perfectly uses the fact that he was alone. Aguilar took second places at most intermediate and mountain sprints to secure the mountain jersey and take some bonification seconds for the classification and points for the points classification. None of the jerseys is decided yet, but it was a smart tactic from the team. On the final hill we got the unexpected attack from some classification riders. Durán attacked and Schumacher countered. Schumacher got caught, but Durán managed to take Planckaert’s wheel and together they sprinted for the stage victory.

Durán won the stage, but he didn’t gain any time. Nevertheless he took twenty bonification seconds which is very useful for tomorrow’s last stage.

It’ll be very difficult for Aguilar to keep the leader jersey tomorrow, especially with such a steep climb just before the finish. Can he take the overall victory?

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Rheinland-Pfalz%20Rundfahrt/Stage%204/PCM1587_zps6565d527.jpg

Because of his smart tactical racing today Aguilar took the lead in the points classification. It’s not decided yet, so that’ll be interesting tomorrow as well.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Rheinland-Pfalz%20Rundfahrt/Stage%204/PCM1588_zpsbcbddbea.jpg

With many mountain sprints tomorrow the mountain jersey isn’t decided yet as well. Aguilar took some points today but a rider from tomorrow’s breakaway could take it as well.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Rheinland-Pfalz%20Rundfahrt/Stage%204/PCM1589_zps44306dec.jpg

Aguilar also still has the youth classification, but he could lose that jersey as well.

Today we’ll see who’ll be the winner of the first Rheinland-Pfalz Rundfahrt. Aguilar is the current leader, but the victory will be decided on the final climb of today’s stage.

There was a breakaway with three riders in it: Wilkinson, Ghyllebert, and Fedi. Wilkinson really wanted to win the mountain jersey and he succeeded. He won all mountain sprints today, except the last one. They got a gap from around five minutes but the peloton was closing it down.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Rheinland-Pfalz%20Rundfahrt/Stage%205/PCM1594_zpsb678d6f0.jpg

Meanwhile Gowan gave a hug to the asphalt, but he could continue his way. Another rider fell as well and a few minutes later a rider who rode much behind them fell in that corner as well. But back to the race. Finally only Ghyllebert was left, but also he got caught. On the final climb there were several attacks and on the top of the climb we had nine riders leading. In that group there were two riders from Hot Wheels – Porsche: leader Jeffery Aguilar and trainee Gustavo Carty. The group started sprinting for the stage victory.

On the line it was Sevilla who beats Valls. Valls started his sprint too early and lost the stage. Sevilla isn’t the best winner here in Germany because people will know him from the T-Mobile team.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Rheinland-Pfalz%20Rundfahrt/Stage%205/PCM1596_zpsbece91ec.jpg

So Sevilla won the stage, but who won the classification?

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Rheinland-Pfalz%20Rundfahrt/Stage%205/PCM1597_zps4784e89f.jpg

Indeed, it was Jeffery Aguilar who took the overall victory. His second victory within a few days. Carty eventually ended up sixth which is very good as well. Both HWP races this year are won by Hot Wheels – Porsche riders, which is very nice.

Aguilar managed to win the points classification as well.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Rheinland-Pfalz%20Rundfahrt/Stage%205/PCM1599_zps7b2e28e9.jpg

As we already knew Wilkinson passed Aguilar in the mountain classification.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Rheinland-Pfalz%20Rundfahrt/Stage%205/PCM1600_zpseb16811f.jpg

Of course Aguilar won the youth classification as well.

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/Rheinland-Pfalz%20Rundfahrt/Stage%205/PCM1601_zps7c9cabfe.jpg

With Carty’s sixth place Hot Wheels – Porsche took over the team classification from Schuller. Except for the mountain classification the team completely dominated this race.

Bikex
Really nice to see Hotwheels to be so successful at their first Rheinland-Pfalz Rundfahrt. Sure you can be happy that no time gaps were awarded between the first 9 on this stage. Wink
The white leaders jersey really suits Aguilar. Pfft

MrUfo87
Bikex: It was tough but we did it! Grin A great cyclist in a great jersey. Wink

And nice to see Jeffery Aguilar finish off a very successful time in Germany Grin

MrUfo87
sutty68: It's great to see him winning here. He did a great job because it wasn't easy. Grin

The Rider
Fantastic race in Germany for Hot Wheels, pretty much dominating there! Very nice home made jerseys as well. Wink

But the reports are coming at strange intervals nowadays. www.sherv.net/cm/emoticons/hand-gestures/i-dunno-hand-gesture-smiley-emoticon.gif

The Rider: First of all, sorry for the irregular posting. I'm currently a bit struggling with motivation, not only with the story, but also with other things. I'd really like to post more often but on the game I've already finished the season and there has to be done a few things f.e. editing the DB but I don't have motivation for that. I'm currently busy with my study as well, I have exams this week and some more assignments, so I don't have much time. When I've finished the season and made everything ready for our third season I'll post more often. And about Germany: yeah, that was a great race for us. Smile

Vuelta à España

I saw that we forgot to post the results of the Vuelta à España, so here they are. Daniel Martin takes his first overall victory in a Grand Tour! He was by far the strongest. A long time it looked like the hill classic riders would fight for the victory, but eventually it went between Martin and Igor Antón, who finished second. Philippe Gilbert takes a surprising third place, in front of riders like Mikel Nieve, Levi Leipheimer and Daniel Navarro.

The points jersey wasn't very interesting. Although both Cavendish and Greipel started here, it wasn't interesting. Cavendish won it easily. He took the lead after stage four and didn't give the jersey out of his hands.

The mountain jersey was an interesting fight between Philippe Gilbert and Pieter Weening. Eventually it was Gilbert who took it. It was his second mountain jersey this year, after he won it in the Tour as well!

Joseph Dombrowski easily won the Youth Classification. He didn't have a real challenge. Lutsenko was strong until the mountains came, after that it wasn't very thrilling.

With a second, fourth and ninth place in the General Classification Euskaltel secured the Team Classification. The first and third position from Garmin wasn't enough for them to win it. All by all it was an interesting race. Although the fights for the jerseys weren't as thrilling as we hoped it was nice to see many surprises.

World Championships ITT

Stage Preview

i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q650/Jussie4/2014/World%20Championships/RouteITT_zpsa7f92c24.jpg

@MrUfo87: Welcome everyone, today I’ll report about the World Championships ITT on my lazy sofa. I’d say: Let’s go! It’ll be interesting how good the Netherlands will do.
@LFreire: Last year you beat us two times, but this year we’ll beat you. We have the advantage of the home race.
@MrUfo87: Could be. Well, I wish you the best of luck!
@MrUfo87: The Australian Michael Hepburn has started. The number last of last year, Tony Martin, will start now.
@MrUfo87: Weening is the first Dutchman who’ll start.
@LFreire: What is Weening doing on the ITT Championships?
@MrUfo87: Well, he could take time on the climb in the end.
@MrUfo87: It’ll be interesting to see what a time-trialist like Phinney can do today with the final climb.
@WatsonIan: Gooo Phinney!
@MrUfo87: Tony Martin passes the finish in 1 hour and 10 seconds. He passed Michael Hepburn during the race.
@MrUfo87: Weening comes in as third out of five, almost two minutes down to Martin.
@LFreire: L.L. Sánchez slower than Weening, impossible!
@MrUfo87: Terpstra just passed Malori and beats Martin’s time: he’s 28 seconds faster!
@MrUfo87: Ten Dam starts as last Dutchman, but with Monfort, Kreuziger, Wiggins and Contador behind him the fight hasn’t been fought yet.
@MrUfo87: Keizer takes current second place, 23 seconds behind Terpstra.
@LFreire: Contador has started as last rider. Go Alberto!
@MrUfo87: Cancellara rides a twelfth time at the moment. He won’t be the world champion time-trial this year.
@MrUfo87: Laurens Ten Dam passes Montaguti so fast that it looked like Montaguti wasn’t even riding.
@MrUfo87: Ten Dam is on his way to pass Leipheimer as well. What a performance!
@WatsonIan: Noooo, Leipheimer!
@MrUfo87: Laurens Ten Dam goes to an 58’46” which is 55 seconds faster than Terpstra. Ten Dam as time-trial champion would be a joke. Who can beat his time?
@MrUfo87: Monfort, Kreuziger and also current time-trial champion Wiggins can’t beat Ten Dam’s time. Contador is the last one to finish. Can he beat it?
@MrUfo87: Nooo he can’t! Laurens Ten Dam is the new World Champion Time-Trial, Terpstra finishes second, just in front of Keizer. Martin, who started very early today, finishes fourth, while Vermote finished fifth.
@LFreire: We take you back on the road race Netherlands!
@MrUfo87: 6th Mendes, 7th Ludvigsson, 8th Kreuziger, 9th Karpets, 10th Contador.
@MrUfo87: All three Colombians finish within the last five positions. I’m sure that @RemuzJosé would’ve finished much higher.

Today's Winner
