The Scheldeprijs is a Flanders Classics cycling race which starts in Antwerp and finishes in Schoten. The event, ranked at 1.HC on the UCI European calendar, is seen as a race for sprinters, held on flat roads over roughly 200 kilometres. The race is one circuit of 155 kilometres into the countryside of Antwerp province followed by three circuits of 15 kilometres based on Schoten. The route includes seven cobbled sections varying between 1300 and 3000 metres. Until 2009 the race took place in mid-April on the Wednesday following Paris–Roubaix. In 2010, after The Scheldeprijs joined Flanders Classics the race switched date with the Brabantse Pijl to attract more and better racers. It has formerly been known as the Scheldeprijs Vlaanderen. Until the 1990s, English language sources tended to refer to the race by the French version of its name, Grand Prix de l'Escaut, even though the race has always been held wholly within Dutch-speaking territory. From 2010, the race is simply known as Scheldeprijs.
The race has a neutralised start on the banks of the River Schelde in the centre of Antwerp at the Grote Markt outside the City Hall. Racing begins in Schoten, a few kilometres north east. The finish is outside Schoten town hall.
The first Scheldeprijs was organised by the Antwerp branch of the Belgian cycling federation (BWB) on July 8, 1907 making it the oldest cycle race in Flanders. In its early years it started and finished in Antwerp, concluding at the now demolished Zurenborg velodrome. Later the start moved to Merksem and then Deurne, both satellite towns of Antwerp. In 1996 the start moved back to the centre of Antwerp. The first race in 1907 was won by the Frenchman Maurice Leturgie. It would be 46 years before another non-Belgian (Dutchman Hans Dekkers in 1953) triumphed. Since 1978 the nationality of the race winner has become more diversified.
Only the World Wars interrupted the event. The Scheldeprijs celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2007.
Welcome all to the 2013 Schederprijs. We've got full coverage for you today, 192km remain in this Flandrian classic generally held by the sprinters. We've got some fan favourites on board today, none less than Peter Sagan who is overall favourite to win. Behind him we also have Pozzato, Farrar, Demaré and Petacchi, so expect an exciting finalé!
181km... We have the first move of the day, and they seem to be going clear. 4 men in this attack; Sampson(AXA), Malacarne(Fastweb), Popkov(Pervyj) and CCX specialist Nys of TCS
158km... The peloton are maintaining a steady pace and allowing the break some freedom. At the moment the lead of the 4 is up to 4'49.
123km... For the first time today we see the breaks lead begin to fall. IoQ have sent 2 riders forward to begin the chase, working for Sagan. 7'40 the gap.
97km... The impetus seems largely on the WT teams to take up the chase, with both Lierse and IoQ donating riders to the relay. The gap has fallen to 6'21, and the 4 seem unable to stop the chasing pack
54km... Still it's IoQ, Lierse and Dominoes doing the chasing work, with the gap down to just 3'28. It is clear that Allan Davis is feeling strong for Dominoes, he was a distinctly outside favourite today.
45km... The break lead us into the second part of the race, as they begin the first of 3, 15km circuits in Schoten.
25km... The peloton have reduced the gap to just 1'43, but the chase has severely reduced in the last kilometres. The relay train has shrunk, mostly due to IoQ's withdrawal. Perhaps they're feeling the effects of working on the front all day with just a 6 man team
14km... The break realise they're all but caught, and decide to try rekindling the attack. Sampson leads the move, tracked by Nys and Malacarne.
10km... The break have been caught and already we can see the trains starting to form. Sagan on the right is in the wheel of Gallopin, whilst Davis follows Samarotins and Maaskant.
7km... Still no real organisation and no team has yet taken a stranglehold on the sprint. All the big guns are up front though, this looks set for a very tight finish!
4km... An epic turn on the front from Danny Pate has given the Dominoes train a good line on the right. They're tracked by Veelers, Viviani and Demaré. Meanwhile in the middle, Sagan has Gallopin protecting him, with Farrar and Petacchi close behind.
2800m... 2 Real lines are clear now. Gallopin with Sagan, Petacchi and Farrar, Then Maaskant, Samarotins, Davis, Viviani, Veelers, Demare.
1900m... Sagan is forced to go early as his leadout simply has nothing left, whilst Davis is being launched by Samarotins. Farrar and Demare attempt to follow the Slovak, whilst Viviani sits tight on the wheel of Davis
900m... It's looking like a 2 horse race now between Farrar and Sagan. Behind come a collection of other top sprinters so they're by no means out of the fight either!
400m... And it is indeed closing up. Both of the leading duo have felt the effects of their long sprint and now it's between 5 men; Farrar, Demare, Petacchi, Veelers and Davis.
It's going to be Demaré! He timed his move to pefection and will be rewarded with a great victory in this Belgian semi-classic
Victory for the Frenchman! Tyler Farrar can claim second, whilst Davis beats Petacchi into the final podium place.

Farrar proving he's still got something in the legs. Bodes well for the rest of his season.
Also, Sagan fail epic. And Dominos getting much needed points.

A solid 32nd there...
Though to be fair to my Japs I didn't send a strong team (ie Rojas wasn't there)

Sagan got stuffed by being the main favourite and having only a 6 man team, they did most of the chase and then Gallopin was his only real leadout, who ran out of steam with about 2300m to go, a wasted race day IMO

Well it could be worse, i mean you still got a top10 finish, just a shame he was doing it in the CT races rather than at the WT

24hours, hardly a long time... FWB are no longer managed, Jakstar seems to have little time, and Daggen is always slow.
Surprised by few of the other names though
