Guess my view is counter to most, but we drafted 16 riders for a reason. If you lose riders to injury, bad luck. You can change your selection at the next block as you would do if someone was riding badly or not selected to start certain races.

To be honest that's what my initial idea as well. Injuries are unfortunately a part of cycling. But if most people agree with it, I'll allow 1 transfer with certain restrictions as others have suggested. One of them being it won't take immediate effect, so there's no time pressure for tomorrow's races. But I also understand Bikex' view, this was really unfortunate timing for him. If the last few players could give their opinion, I'll make a decision this weekend.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Had my own panic over Cavendish when he crashed the other day (seems to be carrying on for now), but that's a risk you take in classics season especially.

Personally i'm also against it as this is based around a kind of prediction ability. If you are lucky enough to have a minor rider crash who wasn't in your selections anyway, now you can pick-up the surprise emergent rider we all missed first time around.

This is a very important point, and I think it's swayed me. Think I'm changing my vote to no, although obviously I'm fine with still having it if the majority disagree.

I agree with TMM that we should go with our initial roster.
Obviously I might benefit from a substitution, given that Battistella is out with a tendinite that could take 2 weeks or 2 months. But well, that's unfortunately part of the game. (I'm obviously not talking about swapping out Hirschi, as I knew he's injured when picking him, so that's a different case).

Or, if we allow 1-2 swaps, there should be conditions about available riders. Either everyone can make a substitution, no matter the injuries, and then it's first come, first served - and we wouldn't have to restrict the availability. But if you can only swap out injured riders, I don't think it's fair if you can swap a minor domestique for a potential monument winner (in the extreme case). Random events (crashes, covid, other injuries) shouldn't give you an advantage over the rest imho.

Can't we just deactivate crashes for the classics season, btw? (wouldn't have "saved" Battistella, though ^^)

I think it's definitely a difference if this happens before the first race or not. I agree that changing riders in between blocks should not happen, as then riders could be removed from the team that were eligible to be chosen earlier, so already part of the game.
But honestly now that we're still before the start line I don't see why anyone would be opposed to that, as nothing has happened so far (other than Declercq's issues) and I would only choose a rider that was not picked in the draft and don't have any more information about any "surprise emergent rider".
If I can't replace Declercq my team would have one rider spot wasted right from the start with a rider that for sure can't take part in any of the races.

This is also a fair point in terms of countering TMM's concern. The rider's left now are the one's nobody placed value on enough to draft.

You guys are really making this a tough decision with fair arguments on both side. I do fear a scenario where maybe a Terpstra or Boasson Hagen wins the Omloop and suddenly becomes a top favourite for the classics again. Or someone like Biermans finaly has his breakthrough and is looking good for the rest of the classics. At that point everyone will be hoping for a big injury of their 16th rider so they can get a replacement in.

I'm not a fan on an "one time exception because the game hasn't started" because real life events have already influenced the game. I remember a certain round where a certain someone changed his top pick to Coquard because Coquard had just won a race. I'm pretty sure other choices have also been changed because of what happened in real life. For me the game started when we started the draft, not when the races are starting.

What if another rider has a similar problem as Declerq (which a lot of doctors are now warning for) but hasn't been diagnosed yet? What if Wout van Aert falls down the stairs of the hotel tomorrow morning and break his leg? What if Alaphilippe crashes in the neutral zone of the Faun-Ardèche Classic? Basicly I see a lot of situations where we'll get into arguments about getting a replacement or not and I'd rather wish to avoid that.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Yeah that's why I was hoping I could still pick yesterday and your scenarios are quite unrealistic, but it's okay if you don't feel happy about it and others don't like it either I can accept that.

Damn, I had Pasqualon in my lists for a few rounds but kept moving him down for bigger names.

Great win for McNulty though. Still surprised he does so well in the classics.

Really bad first day. Started with Vanmarcke's DNS, obviously the worst-case scenario. Haussler winning the sprint of the big bunch completely useless, because outside the Top 20. Race to forget, and K-B-K will likely be no better. WvA winning doesn't improve my mood tbh ^^

At least the Frenchies more or less delivered taking 6th and 8th - not great, but good. Picking Schmid over Rota was completely wrong, though... And Vingegaard was useless as well, not a huge surprise in his first race of the year though. Satisfied with that race, but taking a big fat 0 in Omloop already makes this a bad first weekend I guess.

Congrats to the winners, especially McNulty is quite a surprise for me.

This couldn't have started worse
Wellens out just before the race and also Geniets not on the startlist anymore and then the best finisher of my team is Tiller who I decided not to nominate. Pidcock down in 18th.. At least Vansevenant did well with his 2nd in Faun-Ardeche Classic

Impressive, congrats!

Vermeersch raced well, but no points in the end. Kristoff crashed somewhere and Trentin didn't really sprint for that second place. Meanwhile in France Alaphilippe got bored and let his teammates attack. Pretty bad start here as well.

Imho having the first pick in round 2 was a great advantage, and you used that to perfection! Don't know if anyone didn't have WvA on top of his list there (I did, despite not really liking him ^^)... Pog becoming available in R4 (iirc) definitely didn't hurt, either Pfft But Colbrelli and especially Campenaerts are really smart picks, really didn't have the latter on any list Shock

Being last (and then first) has some serious disadvantages, but obviously also advantages. I picked Italy as a home nation with Colbrelli in mind, so I'm happy that turned out to be well, hopefully he doesn't get injured. It wasn't a present for Ollfahrd to be ninth either, as either he was 'almost' last in the picks, or he saw his top pick taken away by me.

Also, although I indeed changed to Coquard after him winning a race, I was already unsure whether Tulett would be attending any classics, which definitely made me change my mind as well Smile

Yeah, really unhappy of my 9th place in the draft, way down in the lists for the uneven rounds, while also missing out on the obvious first choice in the even ones.

I didn't really comment on the draft yet, but the Pacifiers look really strong. BBL and Bikex also got some good riders together. Of course race selection will still be an important factor as well.

Hailu already on the board with a 7th place. Grin

Edit: So close to a Laporte win in Kuurne. He still gets 8th for some points.
