You decide whether the PT crown should be yours or not through your season planning. Despite Gazelle not really have become a worse selection over the transferperiod, I really can't see a team equal to or better than yours at this stage. Very very impressive stuff! And to have subtop GC riders rather than a potential podium aspirant IMO only shows how well you have built the setup. The fight for the GT wins is fierce, and you have chosen wise to stay out of contention. Yet the GC potential is still there for not only stagewins, but also KOM and top 10GC.
Can't wait to see how you will end up. Anything less than a PT podium position would be a huge dissapointment I'd reckon.

Completely agree with the last line. This season has been planned to be the one where i make a push for the top of the rankings ever since i signed Lopez so I'm certainly hoping that i finish at least on the podium.
I still think the best way to compete for the title is having someone who can win a GT and building a strong team around him but hopefully my depth from top to bottom can help me score enough everywhere else. Definitely was part of my plan to not waste a single roster spot on a developing rider that isnt good enough to help us already and spending 600k on loan fees certainly was part of that plan right from the beginning.
I think giving up on TTs was a valid strategy with PCM15 but it could bite me here since the impact of TTs seems to be far bigger last season compared to every other MG season I've participated in. Hard to get lots of depth GC points throughout when 90% of your team has never seen a tt bike. This made the subtop GC riders absolutely necessary and they could provide me with a good points per wage ratio. Thanks for the compliments
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

That's some incredible depth on the short (and even longer) uphills, love it! A typical punching-and-sprinting (and fighting) Evonik roster
Hope you take good care of Gabby now that you have "freed" him - and should he not perform up to your expectations, I'm sure sammy or myself could provide him a nice home next year

Thanks Fabianski
I will take good care of Gabby. Spent 5 years fighting to free him and i certainly wouldnt mind if he would race for just as long for me

Insane amount of quality. How this team fits within one wage budget is beyond me. Hats off.

What a team. I really like the diversity, could definitely see you fighting for the title as others have said. The weaker TT, and not having a top GC leader may hurt those chances, but you should score well in basically every race you enter.

So many absolutely incredible teams in PT this year, really can't wait (I probably won't be this hyped by the end of the season) to see what Lopez can do. Can only echo everyone's thoughts, you're one of the top favourites to win the title.

dubbeldecker - words from a PT champion. Thanks mate
valverde - thanks. I pretty much agree with that outlook. We should be in the fight but those weaknesses will hurt us. Whether we can overcome that is the question.
matt - Thanks a lot for the praise. I dont think there is anyone more curious about Lopez than i am. He is the key to any title ambitions for me. Hope he doesnt disappoint.

As always, we are very ambitious with our mandatory GT goal. Winning the TDF might sound ambitious already without any context but knowing now that Lopez won't be racing this GT and that we will focus on the green jersey, we will have to find another scapegoat if we dont get this done.
Top 10 Liege Bastogne Liege Skujins is constantly delivering in this race, finishing 3rd, 10th, 2nd and 6th since we signed him in 2016. With the help of Lopez who finished 27th last year, this goal looks very achievable.
The last three years, Skujins finished 6th, 10th and 8th in the monument at the end of the season. Lopez who finished 15th last season is another strong weapon for this race so we are optimistic that this goal will be possible too.
Since 2015, we finished this race in the top 7 each year with last year's 7th place by Blythe as the worst ever result in Evonik history. We trust him again to deliver us at least deliver us a similar good result again. Top 10 seems like a very reasonable and fair expectation for him.
When we were done with renewals, we were pretty optimistic about the upcoming transfer window and already felt like a top 5 standings goal would be rather conservative. We still think that is the case after transfers and would be very disappointed if we dont achieve this.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

abhishek - It was an easy choice to put it back on the plan as we could pick easier goals for the other races due to that :D

abhishek - i tried to find a format that looks less messy than what i had in some previous years while also being easy to make. glad you like it
redordead - When i see that mini-MAL wins a race last season, that could be an indication that MAL could do well there too

- We loved the clash with Portugal
- The 8 riders that don't ride Portugal who were the easiest to free 2 RDs
- Why is this the only race in the "PT" category without finishing points?

- Skujins is the total focus point
- 13 km TTing is ~ 13km too much
- Relying on high Flat/Hi supportdue to very short climbs and clashes
- Possibly the worst lead sprinter we have on a flat stage all season long?
- Eislers first rider in Evonik history to not race in the triple header

- Blythe refuses to call this a cobbles race
- 2019: Blythe (28th) only 3rd best 2020Evonik finisher behind Marzuki (13th - SPAR) and Budenieks (26th - SPAR)
- Our other cobblers will hopefully not wait for Blythe if dropped early
- No expectation on Sakalou - solely racing for support duty in the first half

- Leaderless cycling
- One more proper prologue
- Sprinting would be nice
- Focus on break attempts + KoM points on stage 4
- Since the classic (2015: Dzamastagic 11th) turned stage race, we never finished better than 65th in GC
| | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | | Michael Van Stayen | 76 | 64 | 79 | 60 | 76 | 71 | 80 | 69 | 84 | 78 | 73 | 63 | 60 | | Mark Dzamastagic | 78 | 66 | 70 | 65 | 76 | 72 | 76 | 66 | 76 | 78 | 78 | 66 | 65 | | Krists Neilands | 77 | 56 | 69 | 63 | 74 | 73 | 70 | 78 | 71 | 67 | 63 | 71 | 67 | | Oscar Riesebeek | 74 | 70 | 73 | 67 | 73 | 75 | 69 | 73 | 69 | 72 | 76 | 71 | 71 | | Nur Amirul Marzuki | 70 | 71 | 74 | 64 | 71 | 72 | 70 | 74 | 72 | 72 | 64 | 71 | 63 | | Patrick Naud | 76 | 62 | 73 | 64 | 72 | 73 | 71 | 74 | 64 | 67 | 78 | 75 | 64 | | Armands Becis | 74 | 68 | 73 | 69 | 73 | 75 | 73 | 68 | 74 | 74 | 78 | 65 | 74 | | Yannick Stoltz | 80 | 62 | 68 | 66 | 76 | 79 | 75 | 65 | 62 | 74 | 85 | 73 | 80 |
- No excuses: Time for Van Stayen to deliver
- Leadout: Becis - Dzamastagic - MVS
- Flat beasts: Will Dzamastagic & Co drop Van Stayen?
- Hope that the race jury doesnt screw us again when there are gaps

- Finally cobbles!
- Stoltz is a full-time member of our cobbles squad
- Evonik history: 2nd - 2nd - 1st - 7th

Should be some good races for your team to make some further inroads in the rankings
But I will laugh if Dzama blows Van Stayen off his wheel again
"I am a cyclist, I may not be the best, but that is what I strive to be. I may never get there, but I will never quit trying." - Tadej Pogačar
