Well to be honest Andorra is no guarantee seeing how the mountain train has underperformed so far, however it's potentially the most pivotal race all season as a goal and a chance to turn things around.
Damn, not great planning there, you're right

Spoiler Just messing around with format, etc. Would still keep monthly recaps with rider, screen, loanee, and rankings this way. Lillestrom GP
2nd of June | Top 3 Race Goal | C2HC
Startlist
| Stijn | Vandenbergh | Leader | | Rei | Onodera | Domestique | | Carl | Ngamoki-C | Domestique | | Tom | Davison | Domestique | | Marvain | Kossouhorou | Domestique | | Dylan | Kennett | Domestique | | Hamish | Schreurs | Domestique | | Jamalidin | Novardianto | Free Role |
On paper this is the best race for Vandenbergh all season, if ever he got a result here would be the time. The race started with bunch finish hope Dylan Kennett with a puncture, so even in a K-B-K race he wouldn't be around to see it. Still, Ngamoki has a fast finish if needed.
Vandenbergh was very attentive to the first attacks from Bush and Drucker but couldn't catch the front move and was stuck chasing.
With no skills in a sprint, our man could only manage to finish 8th. Not a bad result but well below where we hoped, and ultimately right now below where we need. Lack of depth scoring sucks too.

We screwed up planning and didn't bring Roux here to fight for points, so it's down to Nzeke and Diggle to scrape some points together and the others to find themselves in the breakaway.
Davison completed the latter part of our goal after a few attempts. Certainly pleasing to show off the team in South Africa, even if we are failing our duties there.
Unfortunately, Diggle crashed and hurt himself very badly. He finished the race but our hopes for points were gone after an off-day for Nzeke too. Not a good finish for us, really down to bad luck in one part and terrible planning in the other.
Undoubtedly though the breakaway appearance is a big plus for us. Our next C1 appearances are in the Rwandan GP Kigali with Vandenbergh and the cobbled gang (where the manager is meeting Joseph Areyura in a Klopp-van Dijk in Blackpool manner) and Jams' home race in east Java, where hopefully Salinas and Antón can attack the mountains.

Circulo de Juarez
4th-8th of June | Don't Be That Bad Race Goal | C2
Startlist | Simon | Clarke | Leader | | Dylan | Kennett | Domestique | | Carl | Ngamoki-C | Domestique | | Stijn | Vandenbergh | Domestique | | Hamish | Schreurs | Domestique | | Rei | Onodera | Domestique | | Jamalidin | Novardianto | Free Role |
"Many of the cobbles riders join Clarke for one of only two 6-man squads for us this season in Mexico. Let's be real here it's gonna suck. Hopefully somebody can defend our unexpected KoM win from 2016."
Jams tried to get in the breaks on the first two stages, but was denied by the peloton. Not very nice.
Our first two days can be surmised with the horrible behaviour of teams being mean to Jams, and the above picture. Clarke could only finish tenth and eleventh on days one and two, respectively.
On stage three a big turnaround though: Clarke as maybe the fastest from the pack managed to refind his 2016 self and finish third, from quite a bad position.
Onodera was allowed to join the break and go after his own chances on stage four, and although he found the right break he couldn't match the wheel of Gaday, who won the stage. Clarkey came in fifth and moved to 6th on GC, in part due to the unfortunate crash of Krieger.
Ngamoki-Cameron found the breakaway on stage 5 but the story of the stage was that Clarke finished the race with another top 5 to secure his 6th place on GC!
1 | Jaime Alberto Castaneda | World Cycling Centre | 17h18'32 | 2 | Marco Haller | In-n-Out p/b Carrefour | + 1 | 3 | Mohamed Harrif Salleh | Sauber Petronas Racing | s.t. | 6 | Simon Clarke | Xero Racing p/b Octagon | + 20 | 37 | Stijn Vandenbergh | Xero Racing p/b Octagon | + 58 | 64 | Rei Onodera | Xero Racing p/b Octagon | + 5'21 | 69 | Carl Ngamoki-Cameron | Xero Racing p/b Octagon | + 5'31 | 77 | Jamalidin Novardianto | Xero Racing p/b Octagon | + 5'32 | 79 | Hamish Schreurs | Xero Racing p/b Octagon | s.t. | 89 | Egidijus Juodvalkis | Xero Racing p/b Octagon | + 6'41 | 109 | Dylan Kennett | Xero Racing p/b Octagon | + 10'26 |
All in all, not a bad race for us and good to see Jams trying after some struggles in the early season, which bodes well for the rest of the season as we need any spare points we can muster when it comes to crunch time for promotion. Also very nice to see Clarke with his mojo returned in the last few stages. |

Tour d'Andorra
26th-30th of June | Top 5 Team Goal | C2HC
Startlist
| George | Bennett | Leader | | Geremie | Nzeke | Domestique | | Jonathan | Salinas | Co-Leader | | Matthew | Lloyd | Domestique | | Igor | Antón | Co-Leader | | Marvain | Kossohorou | Domestique | | Egidijus | Juodvalkis | Lieutenant | | Hamish | Schreurs | Domestique |
"Our third team goal and hopefully, the race where we finally get ourselves back on track. Pure climbing, non-Venezuelan or Malaysian race juries, lots of pressure on the boys to succeed, a strong mountain squad. Top 5 is the sponsor goal, of which we should be capable, but the podium is the big target."
A terrible start as Bennett loses three minutes, Salinas over four on the first day.
Stage two not off to a flyer either with Bennett involved in a crash!
Eventually losing more time on GC as the race looks like it's gone to the dogs already!
Bennett needed a long-range attack and so went on the offensive at the bottom of the finishing climb on stage three. Cheeky wheelsucker Cataldo joined him.
Bennett continued to show his strength on the climb, leading up the climb and single-handedly gapping the peloton.
In the final few hundred metres Cataldo decided to face the wind for the first time.
He deserved the stage win but couldn't get it due to the dishonorable behaviour of Cataldo. A bump to 8th on GC isn't that bad though.
A nice ITT saw the heroic comeback continue, putting our man back into the top 5 on GC!

Spoiler This is long, I don't care
Tour de San Luis
1st-7th of July | Top 5 Official/Win Race Goal | C2HC
Startlist
| George | Bennett | Co-Leader | | Jonathan | Salinas | Domestique | | Anthony | Roux | Co-Leader | | Tom | Davison | Domestique | | Tom | Diggle | Co-Leader | | Geremie | Nzeke | Domestique | | Simon | Clarke | Sprinter | | Egidijus | Juodvalkis | Domestique |
"This is the absolute best squad we've ever fielded with three top puncheurs, two top climbers and a lone sprinter. The goal is top 5 which Diggle, Roux and Bennett could all do. Plan is to have Roux or Bennett in yellow by the time trial so they get a boost, and pray Diggle can hang around in the hills to use his good TT."
A decent start as Clarke was one of the strongest sprinters on day 2. Denied the winby Vingerling and, from the breakaway, one of our favourite non-Xero riders in the CT: Per. Unfortunately Salinas had an ill-timed puncture (courepghcousolgh) and lost his GC hopes. One down, five to go?
On the first hilly stage Roux put into action his plan for the race: get the stage win and yellow here. He followed the move of Vichot, but was later caught. He'd have to settle for 10th from the group sprint.
Even worse, Bennett and Diggle both lost over a minute. Already it wasn't looking good for us.
On the next stage one of our chief rivals (and better TT-ist than Roux) Boily got away and won - Roux tried to follow but, like the rest, couldn't. He was now 50 seconds down, with Nzeke.
It was another tough day on stage 5, the TT. Diggle couldn't recover anywhere near as much time as required, whilst Roux lost another minute on GC, slipping to 27th!
It wouldn't be a race without Bennett crashing! This is going to hell in a handbag so why not, right?
At Xero we don't let things like the whole race going to poo stop us from having a go - so we put a plan into action as Davison laid down the pace before the final climb.
Roux made a big move at the bottom of the final climb - all or nothing!
He was caught by the past and future GC leader, and cheeky wheelsucker, Boily in the final few kilometres.
As the snow came down so did the curtain on what was a fantastic stage win, booting Roux into fourth on GC, over a minute down but fulfilling the sponsor goal.
To begin stage 7 Diggle crashed because that's what happens when you ride for Xero. This also took away any possibility of decent depth scoring.
Before the final climb, Nzeke and the squad lead the pack with a huge pace to set up Roux for one final assault on the podium. One of the best team performances we've seen, regardless of how Roux would go in the finale.
9km, over a minute needed. Let's not die wondering as Roux puts in another big attack! Nobody from the peloton could follow.
The gaps were coming in - 30 seconds, then 40, then a minute, now 1'04 with 1km to go. Allez Anthony!
He extended it to 1'36 at the line - what a ride! Roux showing his class and strength by boosting himself into the GC lead. From 27th to 1st in two days, taking the win in both. What a performance!
Our first ever GC win!
1 | Anthony Roux | Xero Racing p/b Octagon | 20h58'07 | 2 | David Boily | World Cycling Centre | + 36 | 3 | Johan Esteban Chaves | Azteca-NBCSN | + 1'21 | 18 | Tom Diggle | Xero Racing p/b Octagon | + 5'35 | 22 | George Bennett | Xero Racing p/b Octagon | + 6'30 | 27 | Geremie Nzeke | Xero Racing p/b Octagon | + 8'04 | 64 | Egidijus Juodvalkis | Xero Racing p/b Octagon | + 15'23 | 75 | Tom Davison | Xero Racing p/b Octagon | + 17'11 | 91 | Jonathan Salinas | Xero Racing p/b Octagon | + 22'12 | 132 | Simon Clarke | Xero Racing p/b Octagon | + 33'59 |
What a race! Exactly what we needed going into the business end of the season and after slipping to 10th boosting us back into 7th with a massive points total. Roux is an amazing rider and showed it here, but it was just a massive team performance. Diggle and Bennett deserved to get more points as well, but some crashes meant we didn't get as many points as maybe we should've.
Easily the best individual and team performances ever for us - we're very proud! |

Glad that i have read this again, because i can say now that it's a shame that it wasn't Roux the one who punctured
Also, isn't Gisborne a better race as a team for you? 1st + 4th in a home race i believe wins over 1st in GC + some minor depth

@Aquarius - Unlucky
And I'd agree Gisborne was a far better result and race for us - it will never be forgotten in the Xero history books, and the performances of Bennett and Roux there were undoubtedly amazing. But I was talking about performance - in terms of the strength of the individual performance and the team unity and clinical set-up for his attacks, I think this one wins out.

Or Repsol could be docked all points scored since they tried to kill Jams in Euskal, and I can win it

Tour of the Battenkill 15th of July | Top 5 Race Goal | C2
This should be a decent race for us, hopfully it's decisive and the cobbles have more impact than the hills. Jams is a wildcard option but alll in for Vandenbergh here.
Kossouhorou attacked at the start numerous times and secured a spot for his sexy jersey (and face) in the breakaway of the day.
Unfortunately that was the most attacking action all day. Schreurs (16th), Vandenbergh (20th) and Ngamoki-Cameron (30th) were our finishers in the front group.

San Luis was exactly what you needed to get back in the promotion chase but then it didn't go according to plan at Battenkill. You still have many races left in these closing months, so enough time to make up for the latter disappointment.

@jt - Definitely nice to see Schreurs surviving the distance and with enough for a decent sprint at lvl2
@Abhishek - Indeed it seems there's never an average race for us! (Except the next race on the catch-up agenda of course, where we did our darndest to Zubeldia a decent result )
Spoiler It's a comfort when reliving my anger at these old performances for sure
Hopefully I can catch up fully before the end of the season - need to match the promotion chase excitement of rival HQs

Tour of Bulgaria 18th - 22nd of July | Top 5 Race Goal | C2
With a very strong startlist the top 5 looks like a goal that we'll have to fight hard for - but should be within our grasp so long as we stay upright and no race juries feel like being dicks about it.
Bennett and Salinas managed to finish in the behind-Valls group on day one, but Antón crashed and lost time. We adapted our plans once we learned he had no injuries and let him ride freely.
Bennett stayed just outside the top 10 on GC but a solid Salinas moved up to 4th in the stage 2 time trial.
Antón tested his legs with a breakaway appearance on the next stage and moved to fifth in the KoM rankings.
Bennett moved into sixth on GC with another solid ride but Salinas lost time and slipped to tenth.
We brought Jams here for the flat stage, and he found his way into the break!
Not quite with the power to catch the stage winner, but a nice finish for our main man!
Antón again made it into the break and went for the KoM - he was pipped there by Bardet!
He made it to the final sprint with 4 other riders - but it wasn't to be as he came third. Still, a better last stage in this race for him than when Salinas battered him last year!
That sprint sucked and PCM sucks screw this
Bennett helped lead home the main group and get a top 10 on the stage, slipping into 5th on GC in the process! Salinas behind him finished 9th overall to cap off a decent race for us, with two stage podiums, a few minor stage points, two top 10s on GC and 2nd in the KoM. Not a big race for us but nice to have a solid, over 10PpRD, stage race for once.
