As a stage 20, wow... It would be like a pursuit in biathlon. If you like biathlon, one of the main reasons is probably because of pursuit. Same as Nordic combine. They tried all formats of races. But pursuit clearly works the best. The final stage in Tour de Ski is a great thing to watch too. Made modern pentathlon at Olympics much better as well. In cycling, there would likely be some problems with potential mechanicals or medical help. But could be incredibely exciting. Even team pursuit is a good idea that could be used in road cycling. Stage races as a team-event only could work.
stupid idea..slipstream will kill that idea. Only Zoncolan stage can be possibility.
I don't think slipstream is such a big problem. It would be part of the battle. I can imagine a 60km up-and-down mountain stage would work the best though.

I think they've kept the Lidl Logo quite low key.
Wait until next season when they become Lidl-Quickstep

Not saying much, but they could have just put one bigger Lidl logo instead of 2 shit small ones...

slipstream will be the issue:
Example I am 20 sec down at you..going flat out from start..will catch you..and will stay there all day. You will drag me most of the day..later we will see.
How does it feel?
Zoncolan is different story..you are not attacking at Zoncolan..you wont get slipstream help when you are riding 15km/h. Strongest will win. |

I don't really get this pursuit concept. What you are describing just sounds like a time trial with smaller gaps between riders? Am I just being dense?

Not this shit again please...if you dont like cycling how it is, go and watch biathlon or any other sport that changes its identity to raise more money (btw. i like the individual 20/15 kms courses the most in biathlon).

The 20/15k is the most boring discipline ever - it's essentially cross-country skiing with some seconds at the shooting range. It's like watching 15k XC race. Also short distance competitions are far more competitive and better for TV time.
Back to cycling - pursuit style race will never work out in Grand Tour. Imagine how many competitors will show up. Clearly riders who are 1-2+ hours won't be bothered

20..15..50km individual is best ever. All this spint and mass 50km starts did destroy cross country skiing. What a fuck is that when 30 guys riding together 50km..and Northug will win the sprint? With individual start he will be 5-6th. and best guy will win. |

But that guy down 20 sec may never catch that rider. He may just missing out on catching him and then he will struggle really hard with his own pace and may catch a much bigger gap than these 20 sec. Both riders may also stop racing as they would not want to cooperate and so would give an advantage to another rider. It would not be such a big problem, but agree that a stage like Zoncolan or an up-and-down stage with no flat at all would work the best.
@Avin Cycling does the same thing as well. Cycling changes its identity quite a lot - World Tour, including things like cobbles or white roads in races, time trials, team time trials, designing races and changes rules specifically to draw more audiance. And cycling is changing every year, so it is nonsense to expect to it staying the same forever... Why not a pursuit as well if it is well thought and well designed into a stage race? Should be definetely tested in smaller races IMO. Every possible thing that could make cycling better should be considered.
EDIT: And btw I like individual starts in cross-country skiing the most as well. But races with mass start are not really too bad, these long races like Vasaloppet are quite great to watch as well. On the other way nordic combine does not really work with mass start at all. In biathlon it works great in all individual start, pursuit or mass-start. I think there is no reason it should not work similarly in cycling as well.

Aaah yes, those damn super modern cobblestones, just here for the mainstream appeal.
How is it fair to you when a group of 3 riders goes into the race with a 20 sec disadvantage at the leader and they can work together whilst he has no one? How do you judge when 3 guys from the same team can work together because they are close together in the GC, whilst other teams are not able to do that. In a road race, the same situation could happen too, but at least there they all start from the same point at the same time.
Besides that, from a tv viewpoint it's useless because it makes no money because the first rider is the winner, so it's basically half an hour of tv and nothing more because transmission will end after the 10th rider. Not good for money at all.
Cycling is very basic at the end of the day. It's the riders and the road and the landscape. That's all that's needed. Time trials and team time trials are among folks the least appreciated because they break with the traditional formula. If htere's one thing cycling should really not change than it's the concept of road racing and the second thing is, Grand Tours need to have be 3 weeks long.

I am not sure why anybody wants make cycling "better". I mean, it is bad or what? It is most awesome sport to watch how it is.
As Shonak hints, cycling is the man, the bike, the road, no need to complicate things. Ride your bike fastest as you can on the given course, that is all.
Btw. cobbles, TTs and TTTs are nothing so new, so not sure what you mean by that Roman.

so according to the reliable German site radsportnews.com TJ Sports will continue pretty savely: https://www.radsport-news.com/sport/sp...101796.htm
new sponsors from the UAE should've given them the last punch to take the licence

Covered this two days ago, but no-one gave a sh*t apparently Instead they are insulting each other over Biathlon... weird people...

Although without confirmation from the UCI they've got WT it's still uncertain. No WT and riders will leave and sponsors will probably scale back their input as well.
Oh the joys of the fundamentally broken pro-cycling team/sponsorship/league model!
