Wauw Mavic is actually a genious choice of sponsor Smile

Sadly I will have to inform that having a helmet sponsor next season is without meaning, as no team will be able to pick helmet brands next season Sad

@knockout: Mavic is indeed cool, and should add some colour to next seasons jersey Smile

@danny: Genius choice of sponsor? In what way? There already a minor sponsor. And I know there are no helmets next season, like this one, but it is still nice to add it for realism Smile

That as well. A yellow touch always looks good on a jersey

The month of June took pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sod.png Sodexo past the halfway point of the season, and towards some big goals at the end of the season.

Our exploits in May had propelled the team forward, and the response from the fans and MG community was fantastic. A huge pressure had been lifted with the victory in Scotland, and all around where feeling the benefit.

*****

We headed to the Lincoln GP for the first race of an action-paced month, where Sebastian Turgot would be targeting a Top 10 finish over the cobbled climb of Michaelgate. A trio of riders formed the break after a flurry of attacks, but it was clear that the likes of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sva.png Langeveld, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cdb.png De Maar and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/lpu.png Joseph were looking for the victory.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Lincoln/MG15_Lincoln_006.jpg
The attacking style of Turgot drew plaudits from those present

The victory would go to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sva.png Sebastian Langeveld, who attacked with 37km to go. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cdb.png Marc de Maar finished second, 1’11” down on the Dutchman, with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/aks.png Bert-Jan Lindeman rounding off the podium, a further 2’41” back. Turgot attacked the race on numerous occasions and was resulted with a 7th place finish, coming with a group 3’07” back.

*****

From Lincoln to the Tour of Iceland, where there was no pressure to come away with a high GC finish. An opening ITT, two flat sprint stages and a hilly Stage 3 meant we had no stand-out who could show themselves on each of the profiles.

Tony Gallopin started well, taking 5th in the ITT on Stage One, bettering some much stronger TT riders in the process, and setting up a possible Top 10 finish if he could ride well on Stage 3. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sva.png Andy Tennent continued Strava recent dominance, and looked good value to hold his GC lead to the end.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Iceland/MG15_Iceland_3_008.jpg
Mikael sprinting to 3rd behind the Strava 1-2 on the Queen Stage

Stage 2 saw a rare victory for Fred Whitton Race Team, as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fwt.png Cam Meyer shocked the favourites in the mass sprint, before a stage of mass destruction by Strava on the Queen Stage. Splitting the pack on the run-in, Gallopin lost contact and with it his Top 5 on GC was gone. Mikael Cherel managed to hang on and took a nice Stage Podium behind the Strava 1-2 pair of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sva.png Favilli and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sva.png Selvaggi.

Iceland concluded with a day for the break, as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/otp.png Fankhauser took the victory. Alexis Gougeard was present for Sodexo, but didn’t have enough left on the run-in to contest the sprint. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sva.png Tennent comfortably finished in the main pack, holding the Jersey he earned on the ITT, and took the GC victory ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sev.png Gabor Kasa and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ice.png Ingvar Omarsson. Gallopin finished the race in 7th Overall, and was very proud of his efforts.

*****

The Giro del Capo was next up, and all our focus was on Stages 3 & 4, where we looked to make the most of the hilly profile. The sprints were nothing stages for us, whilst the MTT on Stage 5 could rule out any hopes of a good GC finish. Only time would tell really…

The opening sprints were a battle for who could beat Novatek! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/npn.png Aleksandr Serebriakov took the Stage One ahead of team-mate Kirill Pozdnyakov, with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/npn.png Pozdnyakov taking the honours on Stage Two. Stage Three saw Gallopin part of the day’s break, but honours went to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/dek.png Branislav Samoilev, who attacked on the final climb to take the win. Both Cherel and Gourgeard missed the moves, and it looked like an opportunity missed looking at the GC standings.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Capo/MG15_Capo_4_006.jpg
A Sodexo rider tried to hang on as the attacks happen

Stage Four went to the breakaway, as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gen.png Passalacqua took the victory for Generali. Despite attacks on the run in, the GC contenders came home together, and Alexis Gougeard rode himself into White before the decisive MTT. Sadly, he wouldn’t hold onto it for long, as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cdb.png Koep comfortably wrestled it off his shoulders on the climb up Signal Hill. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gen.png Mauro Finetto made it two wins in two days for Generali, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/nns.png Zsolt Der took over in Yellow. Mikael sat 28th on GC, over 2’52” down, and well out of contention.

The final stage was attack from start to finish, as only 4” separated the Top 2 on GC. Amazingly, Generali had three victories in a row, as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gen.png Morris Possoni won the stage from the day’s break. Behind, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/dek.png Samoilev tried a last ditched acceleration to dislodge pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/nns.png Der from the top of the standings, but it would be to no avail, as the Netia man held his nerve. An exciting end to a great race in South Africa. A shame that none of it involved any Sodexo guys.

*****

June finished in Finland at the Hanko Classic. With no real sprinter in the team, we looked for the break, but sadly that failed to materialise as other went clear. Plan A out the window as soon as the flag was dropped.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/bbk.png Yauheni Hutarovich took the victory in the predicted mass sprint, ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fab.png Anthony Lavoine and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/san.png Max Richeze, who rounded out the podium. Cedric Pineau was our top finisher in 34th place, on a day to forget for the team.

July will be a quiet month in terms of racing, with only the Tour de Slovenie on our Calendar. However, it will be a busy month with more 2016 Sponsor Announcement on the way, so watch this space!

Fairly anonymous month for you despite all the action you were at, hopefully Slovenia will be better for you. Also looking forward to see who will join Mavic as main sponsor - possibly looking further afield?
Also, Louis Garneau is a fucking legend, will have no choice but supporting your team in 2016. Grin

the_hoyle
@Dippo: A few Top 10s early in the month, but sadly we couldn't replicate it in the final races. A sponsor from further field could be on the cards, and hope to have everything revealed in the next 24-48 hours Smile

Last month, the first details of the 2016 Sponsors were released to the MG Community, and today, we are delighted to announce the final two names.

Firstly, Tag Hauer have signed a one-year deal as a minor sponsor, as the Management Team continue to look away from just French Sponsors. Like Louis Garneau, this will give the team a presence in the Swiss market when looking to strengthening the team, however to what level is unsure at the moment.

And now to the big announcement - our new title sponsor for next season and beyond. When the news came that Sodexo would be pulling their support at the end of the year, the search began to find a more long term name that will help progress the team forward in the right direction, and it came in the form of La Poste Gabonaise.

Spoiler
www.lcc-gabon.org/EcoleEte2013/images/laposte.png

Whilst many different companies from all around the world put their names in the hat, the Gabonese Postal Service, based in Libreville, stood out from the rest to join Mavic as Lead Sponsor. Signing a two-year deal, it will move our transfer focus further towards the African Continent, particularly the Francophone African nations.

Well you've just made my decision on focus a lot easier by leaving me with nothing should I go French speaking rather than just French. French + Sri Lankan it is Wink

Best of luck for the rest of the season and keep up the good work with the HQ updates. Smile

the_hoyle
@jph: Yes, we have gone from full French to French speaking with the sponsors. That will be the outlook with transfers, but I'm sure this will be enough to go around Smile

Great choice! Good to see a new (partially) African team, there were already not enough this year and with Project's future in doubt it's good to see the gap in the market filled with a new team.

I guess we'll talk in the off-season then. Until then I hope the likes of Baz continue to do well for you.

Dippofix
Ohhh, very nice, I like it. Will be interesting to see how the team structure develops now - kinda liked the strictly French approach, but at the same time, maybe some more diversity will do the team good.

the_hoyle
@Froome: I was unaware of Project's possible demise, and it is nice to know that my appearance in the African market is welcomed rather than opposed Smile

@dippo: Thanks a lot - the sponsor choice took a while coming and even now, I am having second thoughts on the style of the jersey... The French approach was a good idea to begin, with really restricted me, especially with some big French team already established. I hope this will bring a new turn of fortune for me Smile

With all the sponsor news out of the way, it was time to head into July, where the next of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sod.png Sodexo's Goal was up - La Tropicale Amissa Bongo.

*****

Despite the race heading into some parts of Algeria, our hero from Scotland, Nabil Baz, was not selected due to the lack of mountainous terrain. However, the squad was still strong, with Mickael Cherel and Alexis Gougeard riding for the GC honours, where we had targeted the Overall Victory.

The early stages favoured the sprinters as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fab.png Anthony Lavoine taking the win, but that did not stop our guys going on the attack from the off. Wajdi Homrani took an early lead in the KoM Standings and a lead which looked comfortable from the first stage.

Stage Two saw deja-vu in the finish, as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fab.png Lavoine made it two from two, and deja-vu for the day's break, as Alexis Gougeard dominated in the KoM sprints, and looked to be Homrani's nearest challenger for the jersey. Nothing like a bit of inter-team rivalry!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/La%20Bongo/BG1.jpg
Despite disappointment in the GC, it was an attacking race from Sodexo

Another stage and another day in the break for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sod.png Sodexo. Gougeard made his move to close the gap again to Homrani, with no-one even close to the pair. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/act.png Kazushige Kuboki broke Lavoine's winning streak in the sprint, who looked to be struggling.

The Frenchman's struggled on continued on Stage 4, where pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/san.png Rafael Andriato took a victory where everyone had tipped Fablok to reassert themselves. The day's break saw Alexis up the road again, but he was soon running out of KoM sprints in the fight with Homrani.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/La%20Bongo/F1.jpg
Homrani securing the Polka KoM Jersey on Stage 5

Our own battle for a jersey ended on Stage 5, as Wajdi went off the take the KoM standings ahead of the final stage, and move into the Top 15 in process.pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cpl.png Michael Matthews took the win, with Lavoine again failing to make an impact and leave us with a nail biting final stage for the GC.

For Sodexo, the final stage had the first break without either Homrani or Gougeard in it! Not to worry, Antomarchi was on duty to make it a full week of Sodexo presence up the road. Stage 6 would also be the first stage not to go to the sprinters. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ino.png Federico Rocchetti took the victory, and Julian rode to a fantastic podium place in 2nd!

Behind, there was controversy, as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fab.png Anthony Lavoine was given the same time as a small late break, despite clear pictures of a time gap. The decision by the organisers gave Fablok-Dunlop the GC win, and left some teams questioning how!

*****

From Africa back to the Europe and the Tour de Slovenie, which ended the month. With no KoM jersey on offer, sadly there would be no repeat of our time in La Tropicale Amissa Bongo. Mikael Cherel lead the team, however, the ITT on Stage 3 was long enough to rule him or any of the team out of a possible high GC finish. Given that, we looked to take stage wins.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/act.png Kazushige Kuboki continued his fine form on Stage 1 with the victory, but would only wear Yellow for one stage. Hills on Stage 2 beckoned, and we saw Cherel on the attack towards the end.

The day though would belong to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/cdb.png Marc de Maar, as Mikael sadly faded in the final 100 metres of the uphill finish to come home 7th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2015/Races/CT/Slovenie/mg2015_slovenie_02_PCM0081.jpg
It was a attacking display from Cherel, who deserved more for his efforts

Stage 3 was, as expected, as non-event for the team, with only Tony Gallopin showing in the Top 30. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gat.png Javier Aramendía took the win, as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gen.png Pierre Rolland took over the GC lead. Stage 4 was sprinter territory, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/npn.png Kirill Pozdnyakov turned lead-out duties into a victory in a hotly contested sprint.

Stage 5 was back to the hills, and a day where the break would have it's day. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fab.png Kamil Zielinski proved that there is more to Fablok than Lavoine in the Sprints, soloing to the victory ahead of his fellow breakaway companions. Yet again, Mikael was on the attack, but his efforts led to nothing, as he came home with the GC favourites and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/gen.png Pierre Rolland wrapped with the GC win for Generali, and Mikael ended the race down in 23rd.

*****

August sees the team heading State-side, tackling the USA ProCycling Challenge and Cigar City Twilight Brewing GP, before finishing back in Slovenia at the Tatranska Klasika.

Away from the racing, nominations for the Tour de l'Avenir took place, which three of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/sod.png Sodexo's riders. Alexis Gougeard, on loan from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/fes.png Festina-Canal+, will ride for his parent team in support of Pierre-Henri Lecuisinier, whilst Cedric Thaouta and Anass Ait El Abdia will join forces with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/micro/ken.png Team Kenya Airways and their big name rider, Merhawi Kudus in his fight for overall honours.

The recent sponsor news obviously motivated your team to impress the local Gabonese crowd with its aggressive riding. That's how you please your (future) sponsor.

I thought the Swiss market was tough when there was just 3 of us last year but the addition of a fourth this year and you looking for a slight focus next year aswell will make it alot harder.

Good luck finding a Swiss guy or 2 that's not being massively fought over.

I do like the Gabonese sponsor, should be interesting to gain another (partly) African tewam, especially if Project goes under but that's the first I'd heard of it, Hopefully now Aidan's back from his European racing season he can get back to the kind of activity he used to have.
