So we go for Tom Savage over Murray, Mettenberger, McCarron, etc etc.

I'm okay with that, OBrian is a QB Guru, let him get the guy he wants, in this case Savage is a prototype guy, has the body of an elite QB, shows maybe the best arm strength of any QB in this class. But does essentially mean that Fitz or Keenum or Yates (or Mallett) is our starter this season.

Good call for Houston that. Savage is a potential gem, but not selected so high he will be expected to start. Just over one round to go now.
Anyone see even the slightest truth in the rumours of the Browns attempting to sign Jimmy Graham to an offer sheet if possible? Not sure how it'd work with the tag and his grievance. |

Nice prediction, I can see that happening.
Texans have the pick so I was thinking a Penn Stater because of O'Brien

I don't think Sam will get drafted. Sadly it has nothing to do with his sexual orientation, but is entirely based on the media that follows him.
He is a tweener player that would have to make it as a special teams guy. If he gets to camp, and just isn't very good at being a kick coverage guy, or isn't willing to put in the effort what do you do? If you cut him, you will have PR nightmare.
Because he essentially can't be touched once he is on your team, I would expect most will avoid him. Look for someone to try and pick him up as a Priority FA, where they might still have the option to cut him later if he doesn't work out.

But those two are related

Yes, but the reason a team wouldn't take him is due to the latter part. They don't really care if he is gay or not.

I didn't get that impression, I don't know for everyone obviously, but I knew a few of the Houston area professional players (admittedly mostly Astros) and was definitely given the impression they wouldn't care or several had already played at some point in their careers with someone who was. (Also in fairness the baseball player I knew best was from San Fransicsco).

If they really don't care about his sexual orientation then they wouldn't care about the media repurcussions that go along with it either

Its a huge distraction from football, unfortunately.

Exactly. Everyone would hate the team if they end up cutting him, even if he's not a good player. it's a stupid thing about society.

I was just trying to emphasize that it does have a small bearing on whether a team drafts him.
@bbl: What I find stupid is the fact that they emphasize that XXX is the first gay athlete to do something, etc etc. That's still a type of discrimination imo.

So for the first time an openly gay guy gets drafted to the NFL on the same day a Transsexual wins the eurovision song contest, big day for equality (or whatever the correct english word would be for this) |

It's only equality if they won because of their skill. People say it's equality now. but if he gets cut for football reasons, it's then discrimination. That's the issue.
But I think that's all there is to say on that. Any more can go to Difficult Topics.
