Day one will see cyclists start at Titanic Belfast before passing Stormont and finishing at Belfast City Hall
Day two will see cyclists on a tour of the north Antrim coast before returning to Belfast after cycling 218 km
The third day will see the cyclists make their way to Dublin after starting in Armagh
The stages will take place in Northern Ireland from Friday 9 May to Sunday 11 May, 2014.

Dan Martin is going to the Giro yes but I doubt he can possibly win a GT. In facct, no way. He will be a major threat for stages though depending on who goes.
Yuup, too bad recovery and TT. Why is he going, anyway? Assuming hes focusing on the ardennes, it doesnt seem like a great idea, as betancur shows. Personnaly i'd go to tthe vuelta, where he could also gain some form for worlds. This way it looks like he'll be to tired to do much
Duh it starts in Ireland.
What an epic fail, how on earth could i forget. Might even be able to see it, depending on exact route and dates. (Can't look at it on my phone.)
Edit: Only got to see the first week, but Betancur really wasn't that outstanding IIRC. Didn't he get sick near the end? (Due to too much racing?)
Finished 4th on stage 20, last MTF, this means he wasn't sick at all. Finishing 5th overall in his 2nd attempt at GT is certainly very outstanding

50 days of racing for division two? Are the UCI on crack or something? ( rhetorical question btw, they obviously are for long time already now )
I've been dreading that one, and here's why:
Max 6 day non-GT stage races.....uhh...Dauphiné? Tirreno? P-N? Suisse?
It's like they hate people racing on weekends.
Races are 9 days for a reason.

They can go screw themselves. Typical UCI logic, pretty much the same as limiting the length of non-WT one day races which meant that Paris - Bruxelles couldn't be Paris - Bruxelles anymore.
Edit: And 120 days? Get ready for the GTs being shortened.

5 monuments : 5 days.
AGR, San Sebastian, perhaps Hamburg : 3 more (makes it 8)
Giro : 20 days (by 2014 count), or 21 (29)
Tour : 21 (50)
Vuelta : big question mark, let's say 21 for now, but I'm ready for 16 or so. (71)
Paris-Nice : 8 days (79)
Tirenno : 8 days (87)
Pais Vasco : 9 days (96)
Dauphiné : 8 days (104)
Suisse : 9 days (113)
Throw in a handful of one day races and that should be it, me guess.
I'm wondering what will be the rule for a team from one given division to ride in the lower or higher circuits.
I like the unified ranking for riders, it was about time.
Also 16 + 8 seems quite good, given the strength of the current teams.

You forgot Catalunya, Down Under, Eneco, Pologne.
Boy, I don't like this idea.

Except for maybe Catalunya, I'm still wondering how legit the other ones are in the Pro Tour circuit. Their presence there is more motivated by marketing interests than any sportive or historical importance. |

Not maybe. Catalunya is the third oldest stage race after Tour and Giro iirc. And Poland at least makes up for the trashing of one of the biggest stage races in Europe like the Peace Race.
The others can go and I wouldn't give a shit, but I'm not sure the UCI will take quality over quantity.

Catalunya lasts 7 days, but then that doesn't leave any room for cobbled semi-classics, which I find regrettable. I could probably do with 125 days. Otherwise it means... GT will be shortened, and maybe Dauphiné/Suisse and Paris-Nice/Tirenno-Adriatico as well, so that riders can ride both each time.
I wouldn't be too happy with that tradition of riding one or the other but definitely not both vanishing.

And they won't demote all the races outside of Europe.

That means, let's say, Romandie, Paris - Nice and Dauphiné get reduced to 6 days here's something:
18 race days + 21 for the Tour. That means 39 race days. How much was Froome's race days in 2013? |

Romandie... I knew I was missing something.
But all those 7-9 days races shortened to 6 days ? Crap. |

Still the WT is currently 153 days. Cutting PN, TA, Catalunya, Dauphiné, Suisse, Eneco and Poland down to 6 days leaves it at 142. So either plenty of races are demoted, or GTs are cut down too. Or both.
And for many races a demotion could be like a kiss of death. Mostly Catalunya, Itzulia and San Sebastián.

My bad bout Betancur, thought it hadn't gone well. Anyway, why are they doing this? Whats so bad about the way it is? Cut Down Under, Eneco and Beijing, then replace pologne with the peace race. (Anything new on reviving that BTW?) I really don't see a need for reducing race. days, and if then they should possibly participate in less div 2 races.

Like this maybe:
Down Under gone
Poland gone
Beijing gone
Pais Basco or Catalunya gone, maybe even both
Quebec/Montreal gone, same with Ploauy
That will leave (saying that neither Pais Basco and Catalunya are gone), with 119 race days. |
