I dunno what to make of Gesink this year.
Last year he had a pretty decent comeback from his broken leg with 1st california, 4th Suisse (23 seconds off Costa) and 6th Vuelta.
But this year has been pretty bad. He was good in february. In PN he abandoned ill. In Catalunya 6th (decent). Terrible in Romandie, good for only 1 week in the Giro, and finally abandoned ill. And half-decent in the Tour as domestique.
But put together it's an awful year in terms of results. Even worse than 2012. I think he has definitely lost his climbing ability which he had before. He'll either need to refocus on that in the winter and try to get back to that level next year, or just put aside his ambitions for the grand tours and focus on small tours and classics, and become a helper in GT's.
I fear any potential he had before the leg-break is gone |

Seems like Fuglsang will be riding la Vuelta, so Nibali could potentially have a pretty strong team. |

How do you now something about Aru? I've listen nothing about his absence. On 12 july he was in Moena, Trentino, for a special mountain training with Nibali, Agnoli, Tiralongo and other Astana's riders.
Also Benat Intxausti will be at the Vuelta, I think.

Aru is too young to do two GT's

Don't forget Tiralongo and Agnoli, other good climbers. |

I know, what a waste though, I have nothing against Mollema but it would break me seeing Gesink(huge talent) slave for someone who will be top 5 maybe podium material. |

U cant be serious about Gesink. Quintana, Majka, Betancur or Kwiatkowski are huge talents, Gesink is a good rider but not Grand Tour material anymore, guys like Mollema who even ill made a top 10 at Tour, Ten Dam if he stays or Kelderman should be the leaders for next Year. |

Will be interesting to see what Pozzovivo can do, but also Ulissi will be interesting to watch. Many stages which he could do very good. |

Exactly my point. These climbs don't suit Purito. Yet he's there.

You know very well what I'm talking about.
And I am addressing your points. I haven't even once steered away from the examples you chose : Purito and routes.

The point was that Purito, when the Tour was as biased against a pure climber like him as the Vuelta is against a rider like Wiggins, didn't go to the Tour. That's it.
Only 1 short climb like those that suit him. A 50+ km TT in the wind, plus a prologue. He was right there.

Yes, he's there in the Tour de France more suited for pure climbers since like forever.

Yes, you're talking about a fantasy world where I don't show enough love for the riders you happen to like, thus making me a self-hating Spaniard. Whatever.
I was talking, and I think it was very obvious, about the 2012 Tour de France.
Anyway, we're not going to agree. It's fine, you think he can podium, I don't. You think he should go to the Vuelta, I don't. So I agree to disagree, but don't get personal again.

Way to exaggerate again

Oh yes, I adore Purito, Moreno, Valverde, and especially Contador.
There's one spanish rider I kinda like, off the top of my head. That's Gutiérrez.

So we're only allowed to discuss the examples you want even if others are perfectly relevant?

Are you for real, Huge talent as in Gesink was a huge talent, a far bigger talent than the list you previded at their age except Quintana. Check La Vuelta 09(Huge Talent) |

Gesinks results at age 20, 21, 22 where far more spectaculair than Majka, Betancur or Kwiatkowski..
Of all the u25 age riders of the last 10 years. Gesink scored one of the most CQ points when he was in that age period.
He was a huge talent. You forget too easily what a rider he was before he broke his leg. Even already in his 1st years |

Yeah i got atlanta wrong. I though he was saying he is still or he still have have a hugh talent. I wonder was Blanco and Gesink are going to do for 2014. Mollema, Ten Dam and Kelderman seems to be a better options for a Grand Tour. Gesink could be a super Domestique but im not sure if he will love to do that.

Who is going? König with NetApp, that is all that matters.
Just kidding, but i am looking forward to see him in GT finally. Also dont know if Stybar is coming, but he can be strong in some stages.
Astana should dominate the Vuelta though...challenged by Sky only.

Whatever we may think of Gesink and Wiggins, both will not be starting at the Vuelta. Personally, I expect a battle between Nibali, Rodriguez (not gonna give up a good GC if he does well), Valverde and the Colombians from Sky. Anybody else will not have the slightest chance to win the race, assuming that Froome and Quintana won't start. |
