Giro d'Italia 2013 - Week 1
Nin1388
With Sky announcing all climber line up for Giro, Wiggins looks like overwhelming favorite now. I can only see Nibali Chasing him all the way. As usual Sky will set high tempo to get Wiggins over last climb and he will deliver it in Time Trial. Cant see Hesjedal, Sacarponi, Evans being big threat. Moreno is in good form may be top 5.

Well, Sky team is insane again, but Astana has super climbing team too. Likes of Brajko, Kesiakoff, Tiralongo, Aru and Agnoli are not bad either. I think we can see like 3-4 men from both Sky and Astana in last 25 men groups or so. But probably rather five from Sky (wiggo, henao, uran, cataldo and Siutsou) in last ten riders left. Frown

Not sure how to read and rate Cadel Evans in the Giro. Undoubtedly going for the Tour, so not expecting much, but would want him to be inside top 10 at least. But for him, being inside top 10 now, might hinder him at the Tour. Don't know what to think really. Will be very interesting nonetheless.

Wow! What a difference "marginal" gains makes... and buckets of cash to throw at riders

That team included the two best climbers in the last Tour de France. And they did shit. But, of course, they still hadn't signed Leinders to cure their saddle sores.

By my reckon Contador and Schleck were best climbers in 2009 Tour..

He meant the two best climbers in our last Tour, 2012.

Top10
1. Wiggins
2. Nibali
3-10. Can't say, but 3 Italians and 1 other Sky for sure

Disappointment
The route.
(in itself not bad, but it means all Sky will ever do is train the mountains and blitz the tt's leading to a boring race on the whole)

Surprise
Literally no-one anyone has mentioned at any point of these discussions and build up
(if you are expecting some one to be a surprise, by its very nature they cannot be a surprise)

Azzura
Italian rider. Probably from a WildCard team.

Rossa
Nibali or Wiggins
(unless the system has changed this year)

Bianca
I'll say Betancur, but it probably won't be now that i've said it

You are correct. From 1988. Henao is from 87.

Doh! Then I will go for Rafal Majka

Thanks for pointing this out

Majka has been injured. As a result he switched his Giro goal from riding for GC to just "improve form for June and July"

I think I will just leave the maglia Bianca deserted....

Evans decided to do the Giro because he notice he doesnt have any chances at TDF. He would be a co leader that would end up working for TVG. There are too many big names at the TDF this Year (Contador, Froome, Rodríguez, Valverde, Van den Broeck, Rolland, Porte, Pinot, Talansky and Van Garderen among others). If Evans desnt give 100 % here then he is lost.

Evans talking about Tour on BMC website after he announced he will ride Giro Wink

Evans, winner of the 2011 Tour de France, said that race remains his No. 1 goal. "The team will put everything into the Tour de France," he said. "My situation is a bit strange because there are not many riders who perform better with two grand tours than one in their legs. In my situation, with the racing I missed last year, I need and I feel comfortable with this program." His objective for the Giro d'Italia, which runs May 4-26, is simple: "To get back to my best," he said. "Since the virus I had last year, I have had to change my approach to my work. It's difficult when you struggle to get to your best even though you are doing everything correctly. I am not coming to the Giro just for training. I don't know where I will be with my form, but for sure, I will give it everything."

For a great rider like Evans its naive to think if he gives everything at Giro he will be doing a good at TDF. Not even Contador with his steacks was able to do that. Or u guys think is possible for him to get lets say a 5 place at the Giro and then get a top 10 at Tour with all this great riders (Contador, Froome, Rodríguez, Valverde, Van den Broeck, Rolland, Porte, Pinot, Talansky and Van Garderen among others) aiming for the Tour???

Avin Wargunnson
I rather think he will be like 30th at Giro and top10 in the Tour, but TVG should be the clear leader in France, if anywhere near his last years form...

Problem is he has some decent results, but really hasn't hugely come up with anything so far this year. Yes 3rd at Criterium International, and 4th at Paris Nice, but especially Paris Nice was a rather simple course for a climber of his quality. Should have been doing a hell of a lot better. If he wants full team leadership, he needs to put his name firmly up in lights. At the moment, he isnt.

Avin Wargunnson
In the end, he is 36 years old, you cant stop age, maybe he simply cant do better now and never will...

Only one man so far has stopped age: Jens Voigt.
