sutty68: He surely did thanks!
TimoCycling: I think the coach is very happy now
FreitasPCM: Thanks, it's looking good for the Colombian National Championship, although his shape will drop down a bit more.
JuanMotr: thanks! I will
Jakstar22: His coach is getting some sense into him, I think |

May 2012
We take a jump in time. Roberto participated in some races but his success story seemed calmed. He got some top 20 places, but nothing important. Of course, his shape wasn't 100% anymore. End May he started building up again for the Tour of Slovenia and the National Championship.
As any rider will tell you, an important part of a career is injuries. Roberto Velásquez suffered his first (minor) injury in May 2012, on a training camp. He fell hard when someone hit his back wheel with his front wheel. Result: a grazed wrist. He hoped to be alright for the Tour of Slovenia, but he wasn't too worried, as we deducted out of a letter to his (future) wife. Strangely enough, but typical Velásquez, he asks her to move with him to a far country (for her) one sentence after telling her about his injury. At first she was a bit angry because of the way he asked, but in the end, she said yes, and both have lived in Colombia for a very long and happy period. Of course, they also had a small house in Spain, where Roberto stayed many a month, training. His wife always at his side, in the background.
[...] a grazed wrist, but it's nothing big. I can still train, there's nothing wrong with my legs. I'll be going back to Colombia soon, though. Why don't you come with me? [...] |

Tour of Slovenia 2012
One week before his first National Championship, Roberto rode in Tour of Slovenia. As in every tour he participated, he was noticed.
Stage 1 ended in a mass sprint. Roberto took some KoM points and would start stage 2 in the mountain jersey.
Stage 2
Roberto got quite some camera time, since he was the wearer of the KoM jersey.
On the hills, the tempo was high, but there weren't any real attacks. Roberto's form wasn't good enough to attack yet, he wanted to sit this one out.
And so a small group would see the finish line together. Roberto was ready for the sprint.
This brought Roberto's count up to 10 wins already in his debut year.

FroomeDog99: Thanks! NC will be for Wednesday, most probable
Wild Dog: Thanks
TimoCycling: Yeah, he's still a bit inconsistent, but also quite young.
I can see why you'd think it was a TTT, but it was an ITT with a dominating Orica |
