I am so happy to get back and see Pelli has a new story.
I love it right from the start, the choice of team, the writing style and the pictures. And of course the results! Koretzky and Giraud were great at the start of the season. Lets go Pomme Marseille!

Thanks a lot everyone. Great to hear all the nice things.

La Pomme squad:
After a short break, we're back racing again. Unfortunately the break hasn't been good for the form, so pretty much the entire squad is in weak shape. Giraud will still try to score a few points in the expected mass sprint.
Skujins and Martinez will try to help out in the finale, possibly by trying to form some sort of train. The rest will just collect bottles, as they're just here to help out and build up better form for later.
Startlist:
Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg seems to be in brilliant form, as he already has five victories this season. He may not be the best sprinter in the field, but I still reckon he'll be the man to beat.
Florian Vachon is another man to watch out for in the sprint. The Frenchman has been very good in the mass sprints this year. Samuel Dumoulin must obviously also be watched. You never know about him.
After a very uneventful race, all the drama strikes at the same time. Just fifteen kilometres out from the finish, two riders touch wheels and goes down, near the front of the peloton.
Along with them, also major parts of the main field, including Vaubourzeix . Just 68 riders makes it through! Fortunately for us Giraud was sitting in front of the crash and wasn't troubled.
The members of the early breakaway are caught just after the crash, as the race enters it's final ten kilometres. The An Post team are leading the chase, but we manage to form a little train for Giraud .
Just over four kilometres out, the pace suddenly drops completely. Exactly at the moment when we launch our train forward. This allows Skujins and Giraud to open up a little gap to the rest of the peloton.
The other sprinters quickly tag on to our train though. Roy Jans takes place right behind Giraud , closely followed by Vachon and Van Rensburg .
Nikias Arndt and Romain Matheou jumps into the lead from further behind with more than a kilometer left, seeing it as their only opportunity. Giraud just follows the wheels.
Van Rensburg shows his strength once again though, and shoots past everyone to win the stage in a photofinish against Vachon . Fabien Bacquet takes third, whilst Giraud couldn't do any better than seventh.

That was good riding from the team despite the lack of fitness, so 7th place was a Good result

Another top10. A lot of great talents here.
Weird to see Friedman riding for NSP. Shouldn`t he be with Kenda?

7th is a good result with this form At least you made the opposition sweat when you almost got away with that sprint train!

Too strong Van Rensburg. You keep getting several top-10s, and I'm sure you can get a win soon, perhaps when the competition isn't too strong.

Thanks all.
@ roturn - That really is weird. I have absolutely no idea why!
I think I'll leave it like it is though, since I don't want to edit the savegame in the middle of a season. I'll fix it in the offseason.

La Pomme squad:
More or less the same squad as last time. Giraud will again give it a go in the sprint. The expectations are still fairly low, since the form is far from where I'd like it to be. There simply hasn't been enough race days.
Startlist:
Florian Vachon came very close last time, and since the only man who managed to beat him then isn't participating here, the road is wide open for the Frenchman.
He'll get tough competition from two compatriots tho. Auber lines up both Steven Tronet and Fabien Bacquet , both among the potential winners of this race. Remains to be seen who they'll decide to go for.
Anders Newbury , Lucas Schädlich , Marsh Cooper and Jan Keller together forms the day's major breakaway. They build up quite a large advantage, and still leads by around four minutes with fifty kilometres left.
The gap still isn't enough though, and the catch is made just as the riders reach the top of the day's last climb. Around 15 kilometres remaining, with Auber and Saur leading the chase.
Knowing that our chances of success in the mass sprint are slim, I decide to go with a surprise tactic in the final part of the race. In other words, Martinez is off inside the streets of Troyes!
The attack really did catch some teams completely off guard, and no real chase is established. Nicolas Rousseau and Yohann Gène try to bridge across by themselves, whilst Giraud sneaks in behind the Auber train.
Martinez pushes on at his maximum, and he's still ahead when approaching the Flamme Rouge! Auber are coming very fast from behind though, with Giraud following just behind last man Tronet .
The clever move almost pays off, but Bacquet catches Martinez with just 500m left. Giraud is so tired that he's barely able to Tronet 's wheel.
At the line - it's Matteo Pelucchi ! The Italian jumps out of nowhere in the last metres to steal the victory out of Tronet 's hands, with a very fast-finishing Igor Boev taking third place. Giraud can only manage manage a 13th.

Thanks. I can't say I really expected him to stay clear, but it was a nice surprise that he managed to hold on for much longer than I thought.
17/03/2012
La Pomme squad:
Obviously very similar lineup to the last few races. Giraud will go for the sprint as usual, while Martinez and Skujins will try to shake things up a bit. The form is still far from where I'd like it to be though, so no expectations.
Startlist:
Tom Veelers has a couple of wins under his belt recently and is probably the best sprinter in the race. I reckon the Dutchman will be tough to beat, as he also has a strong sprinter-oriented team backing him up.
Some of that can also be said about Sébastien Chavanel and Daniel Oss , who'll both be strong contenders as well. The French teams should definitely not be underestimated either, especially Auber and Bretagne.
After a long, boring race, the fun finally kicks off in the final part of the race. On a short incline just four kilometres out, Taylor Phinney gives it a go, and is followed by no one else than Skujins !
Phinney is brutally strong however, and Skujins has to sit down after just a few hundred metres. The young American meanwhile, shows no signs of exhaustion and continues to push on very hard.
The sprinter teams immediately start to panic and no real leadout is established. Skujins is swallowed up, whilst Giraud is faaaar back after struggling to find any wheel to latch on to. Lots of other sprinters are in bad position as well.
Auber are eventually the ones that manages to organize a small leadout for Tronet . Phinney is still a few seconds ahead, but Veelers , Stallaert , Chavanel and Oss are all waiting for the right moment to go.
Phinney gets caught just 400m from the line, with Oss leading a lot of sprinters. Giraud is nowhere to be seen in a position much further back unfortunately. Also pre-race favourite Veelers has problems responding to the accelerations.
Oss holds on all the way to the line and wins ahead of Van Poppel and Tronet . Stallaert and Chavanel completes the top five, while Phinney even misses the top 10 after his nice attack.
Giraud doesn't find any way through in the finale and finishes all the way back in 24th. Obviously not the result we hoped for, but the tough field, bad form and unlucky daily form (-3), (-3), (-5) for our three captains certainly didn't help.

Form didn't help at all in this race. Better days will come hopefuly.
And hope you can sign a Portuguese rider when the transfer season starts!

Just stumbled over this story. Really good race-reports and nice that you've picked a team which is'nt a team like katusha or sky. Wish you the best of luck

Thanks all!
@ Miguel / Freitas - Hah, we'll see. I'll take a look at how the new real La Pomme-Bonitas team turns out, and then decide if I'll follow that idea in the game. I'm certainly not ruling out anything, although it's focus on France and the Baltic countries.
18/03/2012
La Pomme squad:
Yet again pretty much the same squad as in all the recent races. Siskevicius starts his season here though, but just to get some racing in his legs. Giraud and Skujins will be captains, although I think the rather difficult course will be too hard for them.
Startlist:
I'm not as sure as the game is that this is a race for the sprinters. Anyway, Francisco Ventoso should normally take the climbs a bit better than most sprinters, so he should be a good pick. Boy Van Poppel and Steven Tronet are my two other bets, as they've both been in good shape lately. It all depends on how hard the climbs turn out to be though.
It's game over for the early breakaway with more than thirty kilometres, and several laps to go. Euskaltel, UnitedHealthcare and Farnese Vini are doing most of the work in the peloton, clearly building for a sprint finish.
Or maybe Farnese doesn't after all? Out on the final lap, Oscar Gatto attacks at the top of the penultimate climb, with 15 km remaining.
After realizing that the climb is too hard for Giraud , we decide to take a gamble by sending Skujins up the road to join Gatto , just before the road turns uphill at a very steep gradient.
The move is unsuccessful, as Skujins doesn't have the legs to jump across to Gatto . On the climb he just runs out of steam and the peloton swallows him, along with all our chances at scoring any result at all.
A strong Gatto maintains his slim lead over the top of the climb however, and stretches it out on the easy section leading towards the finish. With no more than a couple of kilometres left, the Italian leads by 25 seconds.
Van Poppel and Tronet desperately try to shut the gap when the sprint is kicked off, but it's most likely too late, as Gatto is inside the final kilometer still with a good buffer on his side.
Si, si, si! Gatto is too strong, and holds on to win solo. Perfectly executed strategy from the Farnese team, even though the attack seemed a bit badly timed at first. No doubt that the catman was the strongest rider!
The sprinters gets overtaken behind, and the sprint for second is won by Julien El Fares , just in front of Yohann Gène and Fabio Taborre . The course was definitely a bit too hard for the sprinters.
Skujins ' 32nd place is obviously not what we or our sponsors were hoping for. Nowhere near the top 10 they wanted from here. The squad's lack of form is really starting to frustrate me now, as we fail everywhere.

Difficult days for the team...
As for the Portuguese rider, it was mostly because of Jose Gonçalves joining the team, but you take the decision of which riders to sign (there are good Baltic riders riding for a French and a Belgian team... ;P )
