Strong start from Peter. Looks good for the rest of Paris-Nice. Hope he can add some wins next to the KBK win and maybe even go for the overal?

Thanks guys, i am glad that some of you keep commenting, as it really motivates me (maybe more of those who read judging from numbers could comment, but i am happy for every opinion).
@Sutty: He is in very good fitness and one of top3 prologue riders in the race, so he was right where he was expected.
Here is the second stage of PN...
Paris - Nice, stage2
Profile
This is the only completly flat stage of 2012 edition of the race to the sun, thus the fact that not many pure sprinters are in the race. Only one tiny hill in the first half of the race should not really be a problem for anyone. We expect the battle of Peter Sagan from Liquigas with sprinters like Farrar, Freire, Bos or home-grown FDJ duo Bouhanni and Demare.
France did not welcome the riders with nice spring weather, it is cold and raining. Despite that, many riders tried to escape and first 50 kilometers were extremely nervous. Finally a 5 men group made it and created the maximum gap of 6"15". The riders were Muravyev, Reynes, G.Izagirre, Rollin and Kostyuk. Here they passed the only KOM sprint peacefully.
The gap was going down fast in the second half of the race, this is bad moment to have a puncture, isn't it? Yeah, Peter Sagan punctured, but the replacement bike was given very fast to him and he came back to the top fast.
With 20 kms to go, the break still held a 1"30"advantage, but the pack led by Garmin and Rabobank was coming with enormous speed.
Here you can see how the break was caught with 8kms before the line and how this started a total confusion in the sprinters positioning. Many sprint trains got broken to pieces, you can see how Liquigas tried to establish their train Sabatini - Moser- Sagan. Were they successful?
And yes, it actually worked, unlike the other teams, whose sprint preparations were completly ruined by the catch of the break. Sabatini was sprinting alone on the right side, but in the center Moreno Moser launched to the line, with Sagan on his wheel. Only sprinter near the top was Demare coming from the left, the rest was mix of GC guys and lead-out men.
The leading trio passed the flamme rouge and completly empty Moser did great job. Sagan left his slipstream and blasted to the line, while Demare was going backwards after being almost the whole kilometer on the wind alone. Race leader Cancellara was going strong from the back.
But no one can stop the Terminator from Slovakia from throwing his arms to the air in celebration of his first WT stage win in 2012 calendar. He was led-out perfectly and he delivered! Radioshack duo of strong men Cance and Voigt completed the podium, strange sprinter stage result.
The comment of Avin, the journalist noob
Well, that was really strange, it seemed like Liquigas and Radioshack were the only teams ready properly for the sprint. Catching the break in last 7 kilometeres caused the total chaos at the front and fresh duo Moser - Sagan took advantage of it, plus third rider in lime green Sabatini found also the free route to the top 5 placement . As you can see in the results, several GC guys for this race like Cancellara,Voeckler or Lulu Sanchéz finished in top 15.
GC remained unchanged and Sagan still holds the youth jersey (but Moser is wearing white instead of him, as Sagan wears green where he is tied with Cance after stage2).

Nice results altogether for Liquigas Great win at KBK and great start for Peter at PN with great prologue and this win Looking good for GC as well, although he needs to gain as many bonus seconds possible before the last ITT, as it favours pure climbers a lot.

Oh hell.
It's great that a young rider stays calm after a puncture and finishes the stage with a blast! Brilliant riding! |

Thanks much guys.
@Alakagom: Yeah, it will be tough in the last MTT surely, as you said bonus seconds could be the key, as i dont see much room for bigger gaps in previous stages. To be honest i even have not played that stage ever in Pcm 2012 ,as i was only riding with CT teams (italian too) in my careers.
@Ian: It is really impressive, it reminds me of real Sagan ,who was able to do that this year. I was lucky in the game that he was on the top of the group and changed bike before the pack was gone.

Thanks guys, it seems like Cancellara can be the biggest opponent in France, we will see in harder stages.
Paris - Nice, stage3
Profile
The 3rd stage of Paris - Nice is to surprise of many rated as flat, despite the fact it finishes kilometere behind the top of nasty short hill. Maybe the organisers made the decision because of 95% of this stage are really flat and not very challenging. But it is Paris - Nice and riders will be the ones that can make it difficult. As said earlier, last kilometre is flat, so we can expect the sprint of the small bunch that got selected on the slopes of the last hill.
The weather was much better today in France and Peter Sagan was enjoying the ride surrounded by his teammates, who protected him as always. But the first 40 kilometres of the stage were again so nervous, that it was not much of a sightseeing tour.
So it took again nearly fifty kms before the breakaway group of five was established, same as yesterday. This time the group included dangerous punchers like former cyclocross world champion Zdenek Stybar or experienced italian Matteo Tossato.
These two were also the first two at the line of today's only KOM sprint, Stybar won it in front of Tossato. The break was still going strong and held a two minutes advantage with 20 kms to the finishing line.
But Radioshack and Liquigas were keen to change that and just before the start of the final ascent the break was almost swallowed. You can see Moser in white and Sagan in green nicely positioned, same with yellow Spartacus.
As soon as the pack started to climb the hill, the young man from famous cycling family, Moreno Moser, attacked! His intensions were clearly to caught the peloton by surprise.
But they were ready and with less than 5 kms to go Moser was caught by Breschel and Hinault, who led the pack. Now MM was ready to give everything for his leader Peter Sagan, who was lurking a few places back in ideal position and waiting for possible attack from some of the other favourites.
And this attack came from "le Chouchou" , or if you want Thomas Voeckler, the home crowd favourite and rider full of attacking spirit. But look who is immediately glued on his wheel, the young slovakian from city of Zilina. Also Farrar, Freire and race leader Cancellara were in good position on the right side. Moser was almost empty after his attack and hard work.
But this was too easy for the Beast, as he simply followed the wheel of Voeckler and made his move with 500 metres left. After that, he had a lot of time to salute to the cycling fans all over the world, what a commanding performance from Peter Sagan, two stage wins in a row. Spanish veteran star Oscar Freire overcame Voeckler for the second place, the frenchman was happy for third in the end. Cancellara was close and kept the race lead.
The comment of Avin, the journalist noob
Two stage wins in a row for Peter, all his fans should be delighted, he kept calm today when Voeckler attacked and outsprinted him with ease. After the stage, he was quickly going to hug his friend and collegue Moreno Moser ,who set him up perfectly in last kilometres.
Sagan is looking super strong so far in France and it will be tough to beat him for anybody in the next stages, but Fabien Cancellara seems confident to hold onto his overall lead, despite it is starting to be thinner with bonus seconds for Slovakian. Shame the race organiser did not count the clearly visible gap between Sagan and the rest of the group. Also the second young man from Liquigas Moreno Moser still holds the great 3rd place in GC.

Thanks for the fruit juszta. I wonder what all the riders capable to challenge Peter at these type of stages do in March, that they are missing in France (riders like Valverde, EBH,Purito). I suppose Tirreno-Adriatico will have one hell of a startlist, that will be job for Nibali and Oss.
