A better stage for Danny, and the team, who was able to get Gerrans and Weening back in the main bunch. Hope the Aussie's still in a good shape for the rest of the race.

Today will be one of the more decisive stages of the race, and is more suited to climbers than punchers like Simon. I will try to keep up, but I doubt I will make it to the end at the front.
Race Report
A flurry of attacks started the race, but only 4 got away. They were Iglinisky (Astana), Damiano Caruso (Liquias), Serge Pauwels (OMQS) and once again, Pavel Brutt (Katusha).
Back in the peloton, we had been going up and down for a while now, but we were about to hit the penultimate group of climbs. I was feeling okay, but not my best. Simon wasn't having a great day, while Pieter was feeling great and sticking to the front.
And my fears came to fruition, as we hit the top of the climb, Simon and I both fell behind. We were in the 2nd group from the front, and the break was still a minute or two ahead.
Pieter, still feeling pretty good, was comfortable at the front. He would end the day as our new GC leader.
The break was now just two riders on the final climb, but they would be caught soon.
The pace was now lifted as Thomas Voeckler (Europcar), Nicholas Roche (AG2R) and Angel Vicioso (Katusha) all attacked from the front. Weening, along with most others, began to drop from the back.
On the chase was the man everybody was waiting to attack, Andy Schleck (RadioShack). He showed his amazing climbing abilities as he completely obliterated the pack, effortlessly splitting it apart.
2kms now, and he was still amazingly pushing the pace at the front. Simon was bout 5 minutes back while i was a bit further.
And Andy wins! He will don the maillot jaune, and only the TT stands between him and the victory!
Pieter Weening is the first rider over the line for GE, and a great day for him. After today he is our new leader, and at 12th now will aim for top-10.
And along with Tomas V, I roll over a few groups back. Not a bad day, but the steep hills are too much for me at the moment.
Something's wrong, but my results didn't export again. Hopefully I get them next stage...
Post-Race Comment
Dissapointing that Simon was a bit off today, but Pieter impressed. Young Danny's doing well too. The TT tomorrow will give us a real reality check on who's going to challenge Pieter for top-10.
Today's time-trial is 27kms long, and although we have no chance of a win, Pieter will do his best to stay in touch. The race may have a new leader after today.
Race Report
I was one of the earlier riders out of the gates. I rode a slowish first half, about 47" off Vladimir Gusev (Katusha), the provisional leader.
My second half was a lot faster as it was mostly up and down hill. I crossed the line in 2nd place, +11 off Gusev, but I would end the day in 56th.
Spanish Champ L.L. Sanchez (Rabobank) had ridden badly so far, and his time-trial wasn't much better. He would finish in 41st.
Levi Leipheimer is always a chance in a time-trial, but today wasn't the best for him. 28th place.
Bradley Wiggins (Sky) had been an active domestique for Uran all race, and his GC showed it. His form was obviously low as the Worlds silver medalist finishes 13th.
Fabian Cancellara (RadioShack) seemed to be in good form for the upcoming MSR, and showed it today as he blew the opposition apart, beating 2nd place by 1'20". Still a champion it seems.
Our new GC-leader Pieter Weening was the 11th last rider to roll down the starting block. TTs aren't really his thing, but he still sets the best team time and finishes 50th, 2'39" off Cancellara.
Rigoberto Uran was the leader of a strong Sky team. He had the white jersey all sewn up, and his TT wasn't too bad, 21st place.
Ryder Hesjedal (Garmin) had a great performance on yesterday's stage, and today he didn't disappoint, finishing 11th and consolidating his podium place.
Nicholas Roche (AG2R) is in great early season form after his win in Oman, and then 2nd place yesterday. He TT'd very well today, coming in 5th place. Could he steal the yellow?
Andy Schleck (RadioShack) the leader is the last man out, and as we all know, he has had trouble against the clock, and again he proves that, losing 36" to Roche and giving up the yellow.

Performer of the day has to be Danny. A great ride, and he is showing why he is one of the most exciting riders in recent history. Our mission now is to keep Pieter in the top-20.Edited by Teddy The Creator on 13-02-2012 10:22
The only mountain classified stage of the race, today will obviously be decisive. Andy will try to gain time on Roche, while Weening will try to hold his position in the top-20. I will continue my trend of doing my best!
Race Report
At the bottom of the main climb up to Col du Ferrier, the 13-man BOTD had a 5 minute lead, and it would eventually peak at 7 minutes. Big names in the group are Stijn Devolder (Vaconsoleil) and Peter Velits (OPQS).
The peloton started to ride uphill, and the pace was quite slow. It seemed the climbers would have to go for it solo later on rather than find themselves alone at the front. I felt good (+2).
With a small flat area to take a breather, Simon Gerrans did no such thing and set off alone looking to join the break. He was struggling to make it all the way though.
Back in the break, Stijn Devolder took what would be his 33rd KoM point of the day, putting him in the lead for that competition. The climbing was now over, but a hilly circuit awaited.
In the peloton, I was comfy at the front, but with the hills approaching I wasn't confident of staying there too long. Pieter looked good too.
Garmin was now speeding things up for their leader Ryder Hesjedal, and the break was slowly getting closer. I was rolling to the back, but was still in the main group.
And with 15kms remaining on one of the steeper sections, Andy Schleck (RadioShack) attacks! We were waiting for it, and it finally happened! But was it too early?
It seems not, as Nicholas Roche (AG2R) follows, forcing an influx of attacks from the other favourites. Weening is one of them. I stay put, as I see Gerrans melt back into the peloton.
Final kilometre now, and back in the break Gorka Verdugo (Euskatel) is leading the break in. He seems to have a comfortable lead!
And he wins! He will have no change in the GC leaders, but still a great achievement. Schleck and co. follow 2 minutes later...
Weening finished 2 minutes later alongside Frank Schleck (RadioShack).
And I come in the peloton alongside big names like Wiggins, Leipheimer and Taaramae. Good day for me.

Post-Race Comment
Simon had a good day but couldn't hold on. Shame. Now just one more stage though until Pieter solidifies his top-20. Also a shout out to Danny T who after a bad stage three has been improving ever since. Well done to him.
The final stage is usually a few victory laps for the leader, but not today! The route through Nice is very hilly, and gives Andy a great chance to attack and gain the 7 seconds he needs on Roche. After a big chat with the guys and the DS yesterday I'm pretty happy with my position and will try to take it easy today.
Race Report
The BOTD was strong once again, and also once again contained Bradley Wiggins (Sky). Other big names are Rein Taaramae (Cofidis) and Matthew Lloyd (Lampre).
And while I was at the front, we heard news that Simon Gerrans has fallen! Such a shame, and according to Neil in the car, he broke his elbow. He'll finish the race, but he will have to spend his day quite a few minutes back.
In the pack, although I wasn't feeling great in my legs (-3), it was good to hear that Pieter was quite the opposite (+5), saying he felt great. I was pretty happy just laughing along with some of the guys as we headed uphill.
But now it's crunch time, and following the attack of Nicholas Roche on the final climb, all the favourites follow. It looks line Andy won't have time to attack Roche! Pieter is comfortably following.
Final kilometres, and Tommy Voeckler attacks the favourites! He gets a nice gap. Pieter is comfortably on Roche's wheel.
And a win for the Europcar leader! Despite a large-ish gap it's not recorded and he get's the same time as the following pack which includes Weening.
And as I drifted into the last kilometre, Stuey O and I decided to have a little sprint comp! But it was a photo finish! Haha great ending to the race..

Post-Race Comment
A great end to an eventful race. Pieter rode very well today, and moved up to 11th overall which is terrific! Simon's injury is a shame, but that's just part of cycling. Daniel's race was terrific if you just take out stage 3, so good to see him improving too.
I haven't got a lot of comments lately, and it kinda makes me feel as if I'm doing this for no reason. But one must carry on!

Hello one and all!
I'm writing to you on my laptop from the beach here at Lloret de Mar! It was a warm springs day and with not many people here we decided to have a dip in the beautiful ocean! I'm sitting on the beach now writing this, and the sun is beautiful!
Anyway, I'm here in Lloret de Mar in Catalunya, because the highlight of the Catalan cycling season , Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, begins in a few days, here on the coast. Although I'm here relaxing with the team for the race, some of our other riders are in Italy getting ready for Milano - San Remo. I can't wait to watch on TV tomorrow, let's hope Matty Goss can defend his title!
The PN ended obviously, and I really enjoyed the race. Good to see Pieter succeeding. He's gonna be our leader in Pais Vasco in a couple weeks so that should be good.

That seems to be a "problem" with one rider stories in their early stages. It was the same with Dominik in his first months. In the times when he wasn't really competitive, there weren't many comments. But that doesn't mean that you're doing this for no reason! I'm sure that many people (including myself) follow this nevertheless and I'm also sure that once both this story and Danny have established themselves, comments will come! So as you say, carry on it would be a shame if you didn't (it would be a shame if you did this without wanting to as well, though but don't do it just for comments, do it for your own pleasure. I know how important comments can be, I really do, but they shouldn't be the main motivation).
I'm actually an attentive reader of this story, Teddy, I just don't have the time to comment on every single story in this section. Just to say I like the reporting and that the team's having good results in the first part of the season. Hope Danny continues developing so that in 2013 he can improve his results.
@cunego59 Man you always seem to come up with some great inspiring post when someone needs it! I guess saying "for no reason" was not the right words. I am doing this for me, but I like to think people are enjoying it too.
@Freitas Great to hear man. I understand that you don't have time to comment, it's the same for me for several stories (Dark Dog, Monster Energy) where I read them but don't post. I should probably start doing so.

That's funny, because it's the same way around for me and your story here So like cunego59 said, keep it going like this and you will be pleased with the comments, you get! And as for starting commenting on Dark Dog: don't hurry, man, I'm taking another break because of lacking motivation
I think Cunego summarized it perfectly Try to enjoy it and keep it up. Many don't really know Danny, so that might be a small problem too. One rider stories have challenging starts, but always end up fantastic when they continue, examples like Cuengo and Valverde say it all
Great Paris Nice summary. Great reports and screens especially ! Danny did well and Weening got a very nice 11th. Good luck for MSR, hope Goss can get a Top 10 or even better
Like this one! I am not the one who posts a lot of comments but i read this one and two or three others, and I really think it's great. Hope to see more and you not stop! KIU!!

When you read my story (Monster Energy) without posting, then I'll do the same with yours
But too be honest: I like this story. Nice screenshots, nice writing style. So good luck in continueing it!
