According to some rather unreliable sources, Matxin is in talks with an American team. Plan is to merger the remains of Geox (including Cobo) with the US team. |

I guess Cavendish will buy a horse straight away after reading that.

The final stage of the Tour de France in 2013 may not be for the sprinters on the Champs Elysees, but the climbers showing their toughness by climbing L'Alpe d'Huez not once, but twice.
What sounds like a nightmare for Cavendish and Co. is under consideration for the 100th running of the Tour, according to Belgian media.

Cavendish will definitely be in need of a horse, if that happens

I don't think that would be appreciated by the riders, and nor the audience. Changing the last Champs Elysees stage, would be a huge break of traditions.
I think the last stage of such a big race, should be a stage to celebrate the winners, but also to celebrate all the riders who have completed the Tour.
The last stage should be a victory parade, without any fear for not finishing within the time limit.
I think the idea of riding upwards the Alpe d' Huez twice is a original and exciting idea, but i'm against the fact of placing this stage, nor any other stage, as the very last stage than the traditional Champs Elysees.

I'm sure the audience would celebrate that the last stage is something different that the usual, predictable, boring criterium.

You can have a victory parade in the well paid post-Tour critériums. As far as I know, the last stage is still a stage, and should be raced as any other, be it flat, hilly, mountainous or a TT.

The idea of climbing Alpe D'Huez twice is nothing but the product of the total lack of imagination/willingness to innovate of the ASO. They could climb the Alpe, then finish on a descent, or climb the Alpe, then climb Les Deux Alpes after the descent, but no, they have to climb the motherfu**ing Alpe twice because we have not had enough of it in the last years.
Edit: Sorry if my post sounds aggressive, I'm definitely not attacking you or something. It's just this stupid idea that sickens me.

I agree with Andy, I dont like the idea of it, messing with the tradition, however if it was going to be replaced by something, atleast its a mountain stage that should bring some excitement to the final day of the Tour.

You talk about messing the traditions, but if a Australian wins the Tour it's already messing with the "traditions" or placing Grand Tours in other country only for the sake of the money it's breaking traditions. So don't see why they shouldn't go from the most boring stage of any GT each year (Champs Elysees) to a mountain finish on the last stage for example up the Alpe D'Huez. |

I can't believe what I am reading..
Oh man.. That must be one of the most invalid comparison/argument in cycling history for why the last stage shouldn't be a mountain finish.
Because a australian win is against tradition

That's crap. A nice early season race goes and we're left with the Gulf's stupid, boring, charmless races. I hope it comes back for the next season, but experience says it's unlikely.

Cancelled because it didn't have the requirements of the French Federation... now, I'm wondering, what are those requirements? |
