+1. Have the same problem at the moment with my Uni exams. There are more important things than story writing. Wink

Good to hear that you understand. Here's finally the next report, but I think it's been worth the wait!

Omloop Het Nieuwsblad

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/ohn_1.jpg
Veelers is our best cobbler, so he will lead us through this race and get backup from the others.
De Backer, Docker and De Kort will have free roles, but will help Veelers if needed. Especially De Backer might pull off a surprise.
Van Hummel will see how he feels. If he still has energy left for the final sprint, we'll set up a train for him, but if he doesn't feel good he will act as a domestique.
Curvers was supposed to be a luxury domestique, but isn't in great form and will therefore be a helper together with Han and Van Zandbeek.

Favourites:
*** Cancellara
** Hushovd, Boonen
* Breschel, Flecha, Leukemans

Cancellara is the favourite in all cobbled classics he participates in, including this one. It'll be interesting to see how his shape is.
Hushovd will also be very dangerous. The flat finish favours him a lot, sprinter as he is. Same with Boonen.
Breschel might also be able to profit from the easy final part of this race. If it ends up in a sprint from a small group he will be deadly.
Flecha and Leukemans will also ride well here, but they have the same problem as Cancellara - they aren't sprinters.

Gent - Gent
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/ohn.jpg
Welcome to Belgium! The cobbled classics starts here. The riders will start in the city of Gent and then take on a few cobbled sections and also some hills. However, the last 1/4 of the race isn't that hard and will favour the sprinters who have been able to stay with the favourite group.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/ohn_2.jpg
A group of nine broke away immediately at the start of the race and became the long breakaway. The riders were: Tratnik (Quickstep), Boskamp (RaboCT), De Vreese (TopVla), De Compernolle (JongVla), Appollonio (Sky), Boucher (OmegaPharma), Barton (BMC) and the two An Post riders Hollanders and Bagdonas.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/ohn_3.jpg
They reached the difficult part of this race with an advantage of 5' to the peloton.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/ohn_4.jpg
The pace in the pack was really low, so we decided to try something. 100km to go and an attack from De Kort.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/ohn_5.jpg
The front group quickly became a 10-man group as De Kort caught up with them. Still, no teams chasing in the pack and still a 5' advantage.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/ohn_6.jpg
On the next cobbled hill, De Kort took command and dropped all of his companions. In the background you can see the peloton still not chasing.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/ohn_7.jpg
50km's from the finish, BMC started getting a little bit scared of De Kort and pushed up the pace in the peloton. This caused a split, and only 18 riders managed to follow. We still had Van Hummel, De Backer, Docker and Veelers in the group, all feeling good.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/ohn_8.jpg
De Kort was still ahead though. He entered one of the last cobbled sections with an advantage of 3'. Still 30km to go though.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/ohn_9.jpg
BMC wasn't able to hold the hard pace, so Leopard and Garmin moved to the front instead. Cancellara and Hushovd must be feeling good I guess.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/ohn_10.jpg
De Kort's advantage decreased significally and he started the final cobbled section with a lead of just 1'30. They even have him in eyesight now!

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/ohn_11.jpg
The pace dropped a lot after the last section, so De Backer attacked!

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/ohn_12.jpg
This worried some other favourites. Traksel attacked while Boonen just followed behind his fellow countryman.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/ohn_13.jpg
Traksel made his way up to De Backer, and as the swept around the last corner they had De Kort just a few hundred meters in front of them. The dutchman was completely dead after his long escape and had to dig deep just to keep the pace.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/ohn_14.jpg
What a shame! As Traksel pulled the sprint, De Kort was caught. Not over for us yet though, as De Backer was on Traksel's wheel.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/ohn_16.jpg
Under the kilometer-to-go banner, De Backer launched his sprint and passed Traksel!

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/ohn_15.jpg
And WTF! None of the others in the group sprinted, so Docker and Veelers easily caught up with De Backer to complete a triple win for us! I don't understand what happened!

Not quite Paris-Roubaix, but great triple nonetheless. Cool

Thanks everyone for the nice comments! It was indeed a very weird result, but I don't complain. Pfft

Also, with the Vuelta ending today I will have more free time. Reports should be very much faster after this weekend. Thank you for your patience!

Next report in a few minutes.

Favourites:
*** Hushovd
** Boonen, Haussler
* Boom, Chavanel, Van Hummel

The long flat part without cobbled sections will make it hard for the non-sprinters to win this. Hushovd will get over the cobbles easily and is able to finish very fast. Those two factors makes him the favourite here.
Boonen and Haussler are the same type of riders as Hushovd. They will be in the first group in the final kilometers and might be able to pick up a victory out of the mass sprint. Haussler might have to work for Hushovd though.
Boom and Chavanel will have to try something in the final kilometers if they want to win this, since they won't stand a chance against Hushovd and Boonen in a mass sprint. It's very possible that they might surprise.
Van Hummel isn't any of the big cobbled stars here, but he is good enough to stay in contact over the sections. The completely flat second half of the race will work in his favour and with the great form he is in, he might win this from the sprint. We will be backing him up here.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/kbk.jpg
Another cobbled classic, but a quite easy one. The last cobbled section comes far out from the finish and it's very possible that a lot of sprinters are stilll in the group as we reach the final kilometer. A day for Van Hummel perhaps?

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/kbk_2.jpg
No breakaway had managed to go clear as we reached the first cobbled section. A large group did have a small advantage, but far from all teams were satisfied with this situation.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/kbk_3.jpg
Finally, a group were allowed to go. We sent De Kort with them to try and do a Het Nieuwsblaad V2. His companions were: Ladagnous and Pauriol (FDJ), Dewitte (WallBrux), Witecki (CCC) and Geerts (Donkers).

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/kbk_4.jpg
Unsurprisingly, De Kort cracked the others at the first difficult part of this race.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/kbk_5.jpg
The peloton reached the same hill lead by Garmin-Cervélo 5 minutes behind De Kort.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/kbk_6.jpg
The pace wasn't especially high on the climb, but it was enough to create big splits in the peloton. Thanks to our good position, all of our riders were sitting in the first group together with Boonen and Hushovd.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/kbk_7.jpg
With 30 k to go, De Kort reached the flat circuit inside Kuurne. He was still 5' ahead and no teams were chasing him! Déjà-vu Omloop Het Nieuwsblaad.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/kbk_8.jpg
As the pack arrived in Kuurne, Garmin and Sky started realising the danger, but was it already too late?

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/kbk_9.jpg
When De Kort passed under the 10 km to go banner, his advantage had decreased to under two minutes! He was really tired, but tried to dig for more energy.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/kbk_10.jpg
And he did it! Koen De Kort wins KBK 2011 after a magnificent solo ride over the last 100 kilometers. A well deserved win for the Dutchman.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/kbk_11.jpg
One minute later, Van Hummel sprinted to second place, unchallenged. What a season we've had on the cobbles!

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/kbk_12.jpg
And strangest of all, De Backer and Veelers held on for 3rd and 4th after leading out Van Hummel. WTF is this?!
