Gotta hand it to Aker, not only do they have the the best rider in the peloton but they clearly have the best team too, very cleverly raced by them and loosing just over half a minute doesn't seem too bad then.
Castaño will hopefully be able to stay with the podium contenders on the next stage and then maybe pull enough time out on the TT to take second... That's the dream scenario though. Both Santaromita and Saldarriaga will have to be at there best for the remaining stages, though Castaños lieutenant Murgoitio did rather well.

Now, I'd disagree - Alarcon is still probably going to win the race - but he's wasting race days not winning these mountain stages, which means his points haul is not going to be as big as it really should have been from this race.

Really bad stage, seems the team was nowhere strong enough to control the break today which means Castaño will have to go on the offensive for the remaining stages.
The GC contenders should get some time back on Rodas on that TT though, they must surely have some energy in the tank after doing nothing on stage 7?

Happy to see Txurruka actually scoring some points. Also nice to see that Astarloza is in shape at the moment.
Leading the team competition, and it is possible to actually win it with my team.

I fully agree, the intention with sending Alarcon here, was to take as many stage wins/points possible. Now, we've let 2 stages go, and also giving away the yellow jersey for 4-5 days, which is a lot of points. And it's no doubt beginning to become quite a waste of race days from Alarcon.
But still, it's great fun to read these reports, keep it up SN |

Great racing here, really. I'm now cheering on the underdog Rodas!

Fun Fact: We have sent a rider in the breakaway on every stage so far except the opening TTT.
... Still can't believe what just happen.

Be afraid Aker Solutions. Now other teams know how to beat Alarcon in other races. Even the strongest support team had no chance today.
Shame on the organisation that they don`t allow race radios. |

Lots of fun going on in Táchira. It seems like the Aker domination is coming to an end, but surely Alarcón will ride hard to get the lead back. Will be interesting to see whether he can or Rodas holds on.

Rodas has every opportunity to take the overall win too now. The MTT will be crucial, as the two mountain stages which are left, aren't that hard, Alarcon will probably gain 45 seconds - 1 minute on each of them, meaning I will need 1'00-1'30 in the MTT, which very unlikely.
I will feel robbed if Alarcon doesn't win this race, it's "his" home race. Though, it will also be deserved if Rodas wins it, if you don't attack, you won't win.
And congratulations again Mresuperstar, great performances in the mountains, suiting your mountain team perfect |

Don't underestimate the two mountain-stages: especially stage 11 (if I remember correctly) could lead to bigger gaps than the profile looks like. Especially because of the narrow roads on final, steep climb..
I still think, Alacaron will take it But the race seems to be quite unpredictable now, which I like.

Very happy with a 4th place! At least some points for Ferrari in this race.

Not looking great for GC at this point. Hopefully we keep making the break and eventually take a stage, this race seems to like the breakaways. |

Very, very good racing and reporting in Tachira. Stage 7 provided quite an upset for Aker, but I think it will be easy for Alarcon to get the first place. |

May the best team (rider) win. If Rodas holds on, it is great effort by my team. If Alarcon pulls it off him, it will be a great individual effort. Should be fun.

These last two stages were awesome. Double congrats to CSC, their agressive attitude has really payed off, though I think Aker Solutions are still the main favourites due to Rodas' insconsistency in the mountains.
Great to see Oliveira and Martins working on Santos behalf. It's just a shame Nelson couldn't hold onto that 5th place and take some points from Alarcon. Anyway any hope for the green jersey seem oblivious now.
EDIT: btw the mini-jerseys thing is a really useful add-on. I love it, great work SN.

Very entertaining racing in Tachira, pcm 11 seems as great choice for the man-game.
CSC-Orbea riders have my sympathies for their sucesfull attacking racing

I think this is the greatest MG-screenshot so far with the two Cerne riders:

Yay! First win of the season!
Hadn't expected Niemiec to be that strong!
