The Rundown - Competition
10 Christophe Le Mevel - Garmin-Cervelo
A frenchmen doing well at the Tour? Garmin-Cervelo think they have the man that could rewrites history as the first French rider to win the tour since 1985 when Bernard Hinault did it. But his chances are slim, and even the team has brought backup plan Christain Vande Velde incase things don't go well.
9 Rein Taaramae - Cofidis
At only 24 years old, Taaramae is back for his 3rd Grand Tour after having to pulling out of last years Tour. First overall might be a few years away from this Estonian, but a top 10 isn't out of the question. And ofcourse their is the young rider competition.
8 Andreas Kloden (Or Levi Leipheimer/Chris Horner) - RadioShack
If RadioShack doesn't even know who is going to be leading the team, then the best we can do is give them a group rating. All three of these guys are close in performance, if everything goes right it should be Kloden who gets the leader role because of his youth over Leipheimer and Horner. But who knows with RadioShack.
7 Joaquim Rodriguez - Katusha
The Russian squad Katusha is going all out for Spanish rider Rodriguez as they are trying to build on his 8th place finish last year. Joaquim is a good dark horse pick and could cause problems when attacking the favourites. If GC doesn't work out in his favor, look for him to attack early on climbs to pickup a few stage wins.
6 Bradley Wiggins - Team Sky
After coming one spot short of the podium in 2009, Wiggins failed badly in 2010 finishing in 24th. So the question now is which Bradley Wiggins are we going to see? Experts say Wiggins can make time up in the TT, but are unsure if he can climb with the best of them.
5 Roman Kreuziger - Astana
After the chaos of the Contador problem at Astana, they picked up this young gun Kreuziger. He is still a work in progress but his abilty to climb can't be overlooked. His overall finish could well be determined on if he is aggresive and attacks the others, or if he plays the "I'm going to let the favourites attack." and follows their moves.
4 Ivan Basso - Liquigas-Cannondale
3rd wasn't good enough for Basso at the Giro, and he wants another chance to win a Grand Tour. But just like Garmin they have brought plan B in Vincenzo Nibali just in case Basso fails to preform.
3 Samuel Sanchez G. - Euskaltel
It is Sammy Sanchez that gets the honors to race the Tour this year as the leader of Euskaltel after Igor Anton expressed he will focus on the Vuelta. Sanchez will be riding in his 5th Tour, and will be looking to make the podium this year after taking 4th in 2010.
2 Jurgen Van den Broeck - Omega Pharma
Omega Pharma feel they have a superstar on their hands in Van den Broeck. After finishing 5th last year, it looks like he now in his prime at 28 years old. Perhaps the only thing in his way is the injury bug, which has bit him more than once during his cycling career.
1 Cadel Evans - Team BMC
And finally, the Australian Cadel Evans. With Contador out with a broken wrist, this might be Cadel's last chance to win a Grand Tour. This will be his 13th GT start, and has finished 2nd twice, a 3rd at the 2009 Vuelta, and three 4th place finishes including the most recent at Giro. Unlucky? Evans gets another chance this year, and he better make the most of his chances because at 34 years old his time is running out.

Tough field for Andy in the Tour. Evans might be his biggest rival, you'll have to gain the most time possible to have a comfortable lead before the time-trial, and avoid a disaster like irl. |

Could be a very tough field for Andy, and based on the start list, not sure that Leopard is really bringing a ton of help for him in the climbs. Brother Frank will help greatly, but some of the other better climbers on that team are not on the list. Looks like Benatti will also be getting some chances at sprints.

Nice preview.
And in PCM, that will be a strong enough team. All you really need is Frank who can protect him, if you really had to, but you have Zaugg and Feillu too! And cant forget Voigt and Cancellara who can still do lots of work before the climb starts.

The prep-races for the Tour overall went well for Leopard-Trek. Voigt took everyone by surprise finishing 4th at the Dauphine, and big brother Frank was right there with the favourites at Suisse. So the team looks very fit for the first week, while Andy will have to build up his fitness before we reach the hard climbs in the 2nd week.

Andy's fate is in the hands of current World ITT Champ Fabian Cancellara. This 23 km long Team Time Trial will likely set the team back a bit, but if stage 1 of the Giro proved anything, then any time lost can be made up in the mountains.
The team rolls out, Cancellara waits to take to the front until 4kms in.
And by the first time check, Cancellara has his work cut out for him.
They are 25 seconds back of current leaders AG2R.
They loss a little more time by the second check,
and now they are down to just 5 riders.
At the line it doesn't look good with the team pulled all apart, but the clock say differently ... They set the new time to beat! Too bad 15 more teams are yet to come, but none the less a strong performance by Cancellara to lead the team today.
Today's eventually winners come from the American squad, RadioShack. Leipheimer leads them to the line, but will not be wearing yellow tomorrow.
Instead he gives the jersey up to Chris Horner. In regards Leopard-Trek, they finish just 22 seconds behind RadioShack and Andy Schleck won't lose as much time as predicted. A very nice start to the Tour.

22 Seconds back from several potential top 10 contenders in the basic field from RS, but only 6 seconds behind the biggest GC threat in Evans, though Cadel will likely profit much more from the later ITT than this TTT.

Honestly, I can't see you "loosing" this Tour, the real test should be the Vuelta. I think you will control this Tour pretty well |

Since Contador isn't racing the Tour he is almost sure to race the Veulta... It will be a real challange to beat an on form Contador with a very tired Schleck, but good luck anyway

ur gonna have to make up a fair bit of that time before it gets to the ITT otherwise Cadel might take it off you like he did in this years (real) Tour de France

Tough field for Andy in the Tour. Evans might be his biggest rival, you'll have to gain the most time possible to have a comfortable lead before the time-trial, and avoid a disaster like irl.
PCM rates andy wayyyyyyyyyyy to high on the scale of TT. Andy on 75 fitness and cadel on 99 he only ends up losing 1'00 tops. |

I don't think it over rates Andy on TT, I think it undervalues how much time can be lost on a 40k ITT (needs to stretch out the time differences)

Oh so the flat stages are causing some damage just as in reality? Too bad Jurgen has to quit again (pretty realistic from Cyanide though).
Hope Andy can stay out of trouble! |

Very realistic, wasn't hard to find Jurgen on the ground in pain
