Tour of Guadeloupe
It’s the 9th year of a sprinters race for the Caribbean nations. Although there is a lot of controversy in that statement as the 9 depends on whether you consider the current Tour of Guadeloupe a successor of the Barbados Cycling Festival and the Caribbean depends on whether you view it as acceptable that the race is on French territory.
One thing is clear is that the race drops to the C2 level this year so defending champion Caleb Ewan won’t be back. Nor will any of the other previous winners whether you consider the Barbados era or not. The team that had the winner of first edition of the Barbados race will be back – Kraftwerk Man Machine took that race with Mark Cavendish.
The race is 4 flat stages although it’s unique twist is that both stage 3 and 4 end uphill so going too early could be costly.
The top 15 sprinters in the race are:
| Rider | FL | HI | SP | AC | RS | ST | Manninen | 73 | 65 | 80 | 78 | 73 | 69 | Perera | 71 | 64 | 79 | 80 | 73 | 69 | Carsi | 69 | 54 | 79 | 80 | 67 | 64 | Walscheid | 73 | 63 | 79 | 79 | 74 | 71 | Bol | 76 | 70 | 79 | 77 | 77 | 75 | Ahlstrand | 70 | 63 | 79 | 76 | 67 | 68 | Gibbons | 75 | 65 | 78 | 78 | 72 | 73 | Marin | 74 | 65 | 78 | 78 | 73 | 73 | Hayakawa | 72 | 64 | 78 | 77 | 66 | 73 | Plowright | 74 | 60 | 78 | 76 | 73 | 70 | Harrison | 71 | 66 | 77 | 80 | 69 | 72 | Ganjkhanlou | 73 | 65 | 77 | 79 | 70 | 70 | Silva | 75 | 68 | 77 | 78 | 70 | 69 | Major | 74 | 66 | 77 | 78 | 70 | 74 | Tivani | 70 | 67 | 77 | 78 | 78 | 68 |
Manninen is the fastest sprinter in the race and probably the favorite although his acceleration is a little weaker. He brings a solid lead out in Noppe and Kiskonen.
Considering sprint and acceleration Perera and Carsi are the best two in the race although the Euskadi man is pretty weak in the secondaries and if climbing ability matters on stages 3 and 4 he is in trouble. Perera has Eislers and Chavanne in the lead out while Carsi has Marin and Darder. Darder is fast for a young guy but might not be strong enough to get Carsi and Marin into position. Perera also has a strongman to set things up in English.
The next two are Walscheid and Kraftwerk’s leader for this season Bol. Walscheid is at similar level to the first 3 mentioned but lacks any kind of leadout, it will be interesting to see how he plays the sprints. While Bol has a wealth of lead out material, led by Harrison and Teutenberg, it wouldn’t be a total surprise if Harrison turned out to be the team leader. However, Bol’s very strong secondaries and ability in the hills seem to make him the best candidate for the GC.
None of the rest stand out one way or another, although Major will carry local hopes and Ganjkhanlou already proved he can do a winning sprint in Eritrea. The question for him is will he get team leadership as the SEE Turtles boast two similar riders in Frame and Tivani.
One of the least subscribed races of the season with just 16 teams and 125 riders. Sprint races don’t hold much attraction for PCT teams, so none of them.

Looks like our team should get the ability to find a breakaway or two and we'll absolutely be ready to sprint. You'd hope that a train of Frame - Tivani - Ganjkhanlou would be enough to at least create a leadout, but who knows.
If Tivani and Ganjkhanlou switch spots based on RDC, I would not be upset in the slightest based on who can get the better result.
Hoping for two top 10 GC and a number of good stage results.

Finally some racing action for us and another chance for Perera to carry on his good form. No real clear stand out favourites for me but we have a very strong train and Perera isn't too bad on the hills so hoping for some consistent placements in and around the podium and a good GC as a result.

Perera has to be a hugh favourite to me here.
Hoping Gibbons can top 5 the GC going to take a lot of luck in the sprints and grabbing bonus seconds throughout but should be possible |

We haven't got one real sprinter now that the race is C2, but maybe Darbynyan can wheelsurf and Renard go on the attack?
Thanks for the preview!

We are here. We are present.
And I'm afraid that's all we're gonna offer the spectators this time |

Wow, what a nice surprise! All eyes were on Manninen, but Kiskonen showed that he is capable of winning too. Let's hope for another stage win in the following stages. |

Congrats Djorzen, very happy with 2nd here as Perera had a fair bit of ground to make up due to our train not firing perfectly. Really strange to have Kipruto as the first leadout man when English would be ideal for that role, hopefully this won't repeat itself over the next few stages as well.

Kraftwerk have a win goal here, not looking good.
We had a great looking train until Harrison took off, his better acc dropped Bol. If that repeats Bol is not going to get a result.
Congrats to Djorzen and thanks to UU for the report.

Thank you guys. My team isn't that competitive in GCs but at least we achieved some nice stage wins this season. |

As expected, a bit too hard for Darbinyan, but no shame in that. Seems he was blocked on S1 and tried but couldn't get.
Nice ride by Donaldson though, getting 1 or 2 points for now. If he can continue to get in breaks and get GC, YC and KOM placing, this race won't be a waste.
Thanks for th reports, congrats to the sprinters

Absolutely cracking work from the leadout and Perera there to make it look easy. Never intended to be a sprint heavy team going into transfers but I'm very pleased with how it's worked out for us, Perera for 150k an absolute steal. Let's make sure we defend the yellow jersey now!

Congrats Dippo, Perera just levels ahead of this field for me do think he goes onto to win this now!
Gibbons with a great ride for 2nd exactly where i was hoping he could be with some good luck just need to continue it for the next two stages and this could be a very profitable race |
