An entirely unknown feeling washes over the Team Puma - SAP HQ: There's free cap space going into a transfer season!
Let's get this out of the way first: We messed up talent training and thus did not see any stat increases in the off-season.
We apologize to the riders affected. On the other hand: For anyone in PCT or CT that would love to trade some of their loan/wage cap for a big loan fee, keep reading!
Silvio Herklotz again dominated the GT he participated in, this time the Giro d'Italia.
Despite a near-flawless season including a first-ever win in Liège, his demands were reasonable and decent savings were achieved.
The first obvious disparity comes reviewing the renewals process with our 3 sprinters:
While Max Kanter was generous despite a good season, both Jannik Steimle and Felix Gross were reluctant to play nice after admittedly strong showings in races ranging from small to literally the Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana.
This does influence the availabilty of the latter two riders though.
Speaking of the Tour de France: Valentin Madouas won a stage and then spent a day in the maillot jaune, and he rightfully gets rewarded for that with a significant wage increase.
Mostly small changes to most of our depth pieces are barely worth mentioning, but we did appreciate the willingness of our climber core Zwiehoff/Zimmermann to atone for quite bland seasons.
On the other hand, a rider like Nik Cemazar had surprisingly good GC results in smaller tours and, combined with his U25 eligibility, scored a good amount of points that is now reflected in his new wage.
Joris Nieuwenhuis did not have such results to show for, but is now well aware of being a near-perfect blend for a vital leadout train role.
Sadly, due to the management mistake preventing improvement, Hannes Wilksch was not deemed to fill a crucial role this season and was released during the renewals process.
If we do not choose to bring him back from Free Agency for 2026, we apologize to him and wish him all the best for his next adventure!
Overall, we are very happy with the results of renewals, and could easily keep this entire roster together while still being able to spend a modest amount on new faces.
It should be quite obvious by now though that we are big fans of repeated training, and always are on the lookout for new talents - German or international - to join our team.
Hence, we are initially very open for transfers and swaps, with most of our riders more readily available than in previous seasons.
First and foremost, we present any PCT/CT team with a truly unique opportunity:
Due to our failure to provide off-season training, young climber Marco Brenner will require a lvl 1->3 loan this transfer season again, which we are able to discuss from minute 1 of transfers on!
You will not have to wait for any talents to get signed on day 3/4/5, we offer you immediate negotiations to provide you with a significant loan fee to jumpstart your transfer season.
A loan fee of at least 230.000€ will be yours, plus any € of his wage you are willing to cover will get added on top of that.
Now for permanent transfers, let's start with the riders we are most willing to part ways with:
Remi Cavagna is a rare blend of a true allrounder, with a suitable skillset for TT stage race leadership in CT and even in PCT as he backs up his solid time trialing with a near-unbreakable FL/HIL combo to avoid getting dropped on the usual hilly queen stages in those tours.
Anyone unwilling to sign time trialists that offer nothing to the team in non-TT races will find his additional cobblestone and sprint qualities to be extremely useful to max out his race days and make 80.000€ wage even easier to justify!
He comes with excellent recommendations from MG legend Arnaud Demare, who could always rely on Cavagna in his many historic GT performances.
Joris Nieuwenhuis, as mentioned above, brings everything you could ask of a (penultimate in PT, final in PCT/CT) leadout rider.
An ideal combination of a high flat stat with solid mo/hil and energy stats, a good-but-not-too-high sprint speed and excellent acceleration, he can elevate your main sprinter from being blocked in the middle of the sprint chaos to being its spearhead under the flamme rouge.
Additionally, a decent cobble stat allows for a nice spread of race days for any classics-oriented team.
In the next category of availability, we find Ben Zwiehoff, Mike Aaron Egger and Ilan Van Wilder, and newly added Marco Brenner.
This is the category of "if selling everyone above doesn't get us to a financial breakpoint, at least one of them WILL be sold", hence we strongly encourage unsolicited inquiries about these riders early on in transfers.
Ben Zwiehoff has the exact stats you want in a GT breakaway specialist aiming for the KoM and stage wins, a superdomestique for your PCT leader or a team captain in CT stage races.
The only reason we consider parting ways with a rider combining strong climbing stats with the crucial acceleration and downhilling required to set yourself apart from similar climbers is his age, which should not stand in the way of an acquisition though. 31 is still plenty young for a small investment at such a cheap wage!
Mike Aaron Egger is an ideal cheap climbing domestique on low wage that can contribute for at least the two upcoming seasons as well thanks to pot6.
Ilan Van Wilder does not come with any age constraints, as he isn't even maxed yet. He will be an extremely strong stage race domestique, particularly if you are in desperate need of a solid TTT squad to support your leader there.
77mo/75tt next season when maxed, and your wage investment this season will only be 50.000€! If you're not aiming for expensive training and rather fill out your squad nicely with depth pieces, do not look any further.
Relations with Marco Brenner have become a bit tense following the failure to provide adequate training facilities in the off-season.
Therefore, it is not unlikely that instead of looking for a team to loan him in for a year, he might be sold this transfer season.
Still on track to become a top stage racer just below the likes of Carlos Rodriguez, he will provide great support in PT while retaining the option to train him well into the 80s, or can lead a PCT or CT team outright straight after maxing out.
Any team in PCT or CT can get him to lvl3 this season and immediately return to fast-tracking his development into a very well-rounded climber without any weaknesses (good FL, SPR and ACC, excellent DH).
In the middle of our availability chart, you see riders that may become available depending on your offer, a change of plans on our side or a real need for that extra bit of cash or cap space.
Valentin Madouas comes with the referral of a Tour de France stage win, and is a solid points scorer beyond that which brought him all the way up to #76 of the ProTour standings.
You will have a hard time finding a climber-puncheur that sprints better than him, and he would even have two years of training eligibility remaining if you want him to become even better at any of those skills!
Jannik Steimle and Felix Gross, as mentioned above, had good seasons that led to small wage increases, but they are still very much worth the investment.
They can be prime GT stage hunting or final leadout candidates in PT, or straight up lead your PCT/CT squad.
Especially Steimle has proven to be incredibly resilient in hillier stages, while Gross comes with the added benefit of only being 27.
Nik Cemazar comes from a 2024 season that nearly saw him break into the Top 150 in ProTour points despite not even making the Top 250 on OVL, thanks to his excellent allround stage racing qualities.
We could easily imagine him being a vital part of our stage racing / TTT core for the next 6-7 seasons, but if you are a team looking to support a strong stage racer, particularly if you want to target those races with TTTs, he could also be part of YOUR stage racing / TTT core if we are in dire need of another small transfer fee!
Any riders below this category are very unlikely to leave, but we are happy to discuss any swap ideas you have that involve them.
In general, we expect early talks to mostly center around cash-only offers, but we are always willing to talk swaps!

Definitely some very interesting dots there. Not sure if I'll really go for any of these riders after the Ganna experience last year, but some of them would definitely be nice to have

Thought I would take a year off from your availability list, but can't deny there are some interesting riders there. A little enquiry can't hurt, right?
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Thanks for all the engagement already!
@whitejersey:
We've just had them reinforced at the HQ after unexpected damage as a result of a missed deadline.
@Fabianski:
I still feel so bad about that whole period.
I guess the nature of multi-team negotiations is that the best outcome for one team is an agreement, and the best outcome for all other involved teams is to be able to get out as early as possible knowing that there won't be one.
It's a lesson I had to learn the hard way, and one that is just counterintuitive to my general people-pleaser approach (and happened to be somewhat incompatible with the Kämna deal evolving at the same time).
Hopefully there'll be no more of that to fear - the next few years should be without such high-profile availabilities anyway - and we can have constructive talks again when the opportunity arises.
@Ollfardh:
Glad to see somebody likes Nik Cemazar! Looking forward to the early talks then.
@DaveTwoBob:
We always have at least one reason to, and this year won't be any different - quite the opposite. Can't wait!
@kandesbunzler26:
Thanks for the compliment! You've definitely been on my mind while creating it already.
@cunego59:
After the above-mentioned Ganna saga, I think I'm a bit better prepared for full inboxes than before, so don't hesitate!
@jandal7:
Pidcock or GTFO.

A couple of "no-brainers" on the list, but definately also some surprising names! Also a couple of names that I'm likely to approach you regarding.
Can't wait to see Kanter becoming an 83 Sprinter, and Rutsch a 79 Cobbler - Or however you'll splash those big money you always gain

There was only one number there of interest - Herklotz, 31... the reign of terrors time is starting to tick down. And with potentially a lot of movement (and as you say, actual cap space to use) I think you're starting that succession plan. Other managers best be aware!

@sammyt93:
Expecting your DM!
@SotD:
Yes, this season has a wider range of availability than usual, both for immediate and long-term planning reasons.
For example, having 3 good sprinters worked out great last year, but may not be as effective after a version change and the OVL update.
Both training options are quite possible!
@TMM:
The end is near (but hopefully not THAT near thanks to pot7 declines!)...
There's certainly a chance we go VERY big this season if the circumstances work out in our favor, but the mid-tier of fresh faces also offers lots of value.
As always, no plan survives the first 5 minutes!
Relations with Marco Brenner have become a bit tense following the failure to provide adequate training facilities in the off-season.
Therefore, it is not unlikely that instead of looking for a team to loan him in for a year, he might be sold this transfer season.
| Nat. | Name | FL | MO | MM | | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | Age | Wage |  | Marco Brenner | 66 | 69 | 68 | | 68 | 67 | 68 | 68 | 67 | 51 | 66 | 68 | 69 | 72 | 68 | 23 | 130k |  | Marco Brenner | 69 | 78 | 76 | | 73 | 74 | 75 | 73 | 74 | 51 | 66 | 69 | 70 | 73 | 75 | 26 | |

Any team in PCT or CT can get him to lvl3 this season and immediately return to fast-tracking his development into a very well-rounded climber without any weaknesses (good FL, SPR, ACC, excellent DH).
The availability overview has been amended to reflect this change.

As ever, there are a lot of riders I like potentially available (but also likely out of my price range). Surprised to see the possibility of Brenner being available, I guess a decision made looking at the potential alternatives for future leadership/training? |

@jph27:
It's possible we'll end up selling riders for cap space rather than for budget reasons, so don't hesitate to give it a shot!
Indeed, there's been talk about moving in a different direction post-Herklotz, and we may not be able to accommodate two talents at the same time. We wouldn't stand in the way of Marco receiving the attention he deserves in that case.
