Continuity For Evonik - ELKO
Evonik - ELKO continues for another season. After joining the professional cycling circuit in 2014 and promoting to PT for the 2016 season, the team is heading into its 11th season - the 9th consecutive season in the highest level of cycling.
One key factor for success has been the continuity and stability, having been sponsored by German chemistry company Evonik since its beginning. The ELKO Group, a Latvian distributor of IT and electronics products, joined for the team's second season and stayed loyal ever since.
Following a strong season with plenty of highlights, none of the sponsors saw any reason to cancel their commitment to the project. The belief in the team to be visible and succesful in the biggest races is unbroken. Full list of returning sponsors can be found below:

While our last season was quite succesful, we are planning ahead for the long-term future. And while the numbers of talents in our team bus has reduced over the years, we still have some very promising talents within our rows that we are excited to watch over the coming years.
Hannes Bergstrom Frisk (29) | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | XP | Age | 2023 | 66 | 73 | 68 | 71 | 71 | 71 | 74 | 61 | 55 | 65 | 67 | 66 | 71 | 4.42 | 28 | 2024 | 67 | 75 | 69 | 73 | 73 | 72 | 76 | 61 | 55 | 65 | 67 | 66 | 73 | 4.100 | 29 |
Hannes has finished his development and graduates to a full time member of our stage racing core. He excels at keeping a steady pace for longer periods of time and is expected to be a key member of Lecuisinier's support team.
Kristers Ansons (25) | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | XP | Age | 2023 | 73 | 67 | 69 | 70 | 70 | 70 | 67 | 67 | 70 | 72 | 70 | 68 | 69 | 3.99 | 24 | 2024 | 76 | 68 | 70 | 71 | 72 | 72 | 69 | 68 | 71 | 74 | 72 | 69 | 70 | 4.73 | 25 | 2025 | 78 | 69 | 71 | 72 | 73 | 73 | 70 | 69 | 72 | 75 | 74 | 70 | 71 | 4.100 | 26 |
Kristers is developing into a fine allrounder. Familiar with every type of terrain, he is able to substitute into every race lineup on a moment's notice. His biggest strength outside of having no weakness is his ability on flat terrain.
Fredrik Dversnes (26) | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | XP | Age | 2023 | 73 | 66 | 68 | 65 | 72 | 73 | 69 | 68 | 66 | 73 | 74 | 66 | 67 | 3.99 | 26 | 2024 | 76 | 67 | 69 | 66 | 74 | 75 | 71 | 69 | 67 | 75 | 77 | 67 | 68 | 4.21 | 27 | 2025 | 78 | 68 | 70 | 67 | 75 | 76 | 72 | 70 | 68 | 77 | 79 | 68 | 69 | 4.100 | 28 |
Signed a couple of years ago, Fredrik spent last year near to his home at our friends at Aker to learn in the shadows of arguably the best finisseur duo in the world. Lukasz Wisniowski and Soren Kragh Andersen have mastered the art of competing against top sprinters in flat classics and we see Fredrik as someone who has all the necessary skills to do so as well. Similar to Ansons, he is very versatile and can contribute on various different terrains.
Luke Plapp (24) | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | XP | Age | 2023 | 70 | 74 | 73 | 73 | 70 | 75 | 72 | 58 | 62 | 67 | 72 | 64 | 74 | 3.2 | 23 | 2024 | 71 | 77 | 75 | 75 | 72 | 77 | 74 | 58 | 62 | 68 | 73 | 65 | 76 | 4.59 | 24 | 2025 | 72 | 79 | 76 | 77 | 74 | 78 | 76 | 58 | 62 | 68 | 73 | 65 | 78 | 4.100 | 25 |
He might only be 24 and not yet finished with his development, but Luke Plapp is expected to contribute already this year as one of the best young stage racers in the peloton. Skilled on both longer mountains and shorter hills and having lots of experience in the wind channel, he can be a factor for us in every stage race.
Alekss Krasts (23) | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | XP | Age | 2023 | 69 | 70 | 69 | 69 | 69 | 68 | 67 | 59 | 66 | 68 | 71 | 72 | 69 | 1.95 | 22 | 2024 | 69 | 74 | 70 | 71 | 70 | 70 | 70 | 59 | 66 | 69 | 72 | 73 | 71 | 3.99 | 23 | 2026 | 70 | 78 | 73 | 75 | 73 | 73 | 74 | 59 | 66 | 70 | 73 | 73 | 75 | 4.100 | 25 |
As the youngest of our talents, Alekss has the fewest expectations for this upcoming season of basically every squad member. Having already ridden two full seasons with our team, he has finally made the first big jump towards the class rider we know he can be. This year, he is expected to compete in the Tour d'Avenir and he is looking forward to his Grand Tour debut.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

That's just an awesome batch of talents
Plapp is already scary, and could dominate PT for years once maxed & trained. Or will you try to make a GT winner out of Krasts?
And it's pretty obvious that you prefer flat beasts to pure sprinters; in particular Dversnes should be a dangerous man once maxed.
Looking forward to see how you plan the next steps in terms of roster composition - I guess we'll once more be talking this year, maybe with an outcome for once?
Good luck in any case!

Big fan of all the talents you have developing. Plapp is already an amazing rider to have U25 eligible at Level 4, could be a great season for him if he utilises that well. Things are definitely moving well at Evonik (as if challenging for the title wasn't already going well enough)

Some quite nice talents you have there, seems like LPHs succession seems already secured. Maybe Plapp's the x-factor for the next title chase already?

Fabianski - I dont think Krasts has the backups necessary to make real training worthwhile. So i think his sweet spot will be in the Chiarello role of being able to finish top 15 in GTs with some stage win attempts along the way. My long-term training plans for Plapp are very much in the air. His first training eligible season comes the year of Lecuisiniers first decline so it could well be that i end up with the cash necessary to do some big training in his crucial years but i also like the idea of having him in the Wirtgen/Dunbar role. So i guess a lot depends on which options are available once i need to replace Lecuisinier/Lopez.
I'm always happy to talk about a lot of things but unlike in the last few seasons, i dont see an obvious move that would fit my team perfectly. But its always possible that you or someone else can convince me into pivoting away from my current plan
jandal - Absolutely and its especially great that he will be U25 eligible for his maxed year too.
kandes - I'd love if he can be a x-factor already as we need some sort of that for sure since we basically wont be able to improve this transfer season.

i think polka dots or white is much more likely for a rider like him.

I think green like Lithuanian grass is the way to go for him. Krasts means Lithuanian in Latvian language, kinda speaks for itself

Seeing Evonik and "stage racing core" in the same post is still jarring to me.

Could be some big bids coming your direction in the future for a certain talent but we'll talk about that later Sn incredibly successful team from the class of 2014 that I can only hope to catch up to and emulate in seasons to come I wish you well again in 2024!

bbl - It feels weird to me too. Weirdly, i think most of my team building philosophy still feels fairly close to the early years (building the team around riders who are (nearly) the best in "their" races) but of course the team looks vastly different.
LLS - Looking forward to it but for certain talents it will be very hard to convince me. We might have had some very different paths to the PT but i really like your squad of mostly homegrown talents as well even if it might still need some major refreshments again. Lets go 2014s!

After negotiating with all of the 17 riders contracted to us last season, we came to an agreement with 16 on them. Michel Koch is the one rider who leaves our squad with immediate effect. While we did make multiple offers for him, we knew they were not particularly competitive and we are not surprised that he declined all of them. We wish him the best of luck and would love to see him in a protected role for a CT team next season.
Notably are pay rises for our leaders Pierre-Henri Lecuisinier and Jan Polanc who were granted a deserved rise following very strong seasons. Richly deserved but this also limits our abilities to improve the squad in the upcoming transfer window.

Great temporary wage cut on Plapp. Combining Blums, MAL and Plapp covers for the increase of Polanc after his massive season.
Letting Koch go was probably a good call. At 90K he was a little bit overpriced imo. I fully aknowledge that those riders are needed when you have a PHL type, but I'm sure you can loan in someone not to different to cover the wage gap.

Following his decline, 90k was definitely overpriced and needed a cut. He would have been on the sales block anyway so the renewals fee from his renewals would need to be small enough to make a profit upon sale. This lead me to very aggressive offers ever so slightly over the minimum wage and i wasnt really sure if i even wanted him to accept those

Some great talents coming through, and the future looks bright after the current leaders start to decline. Some expected increases in renewals, but still a decent one I'd say.

abhi - We have some pieces that should be very useful past the leaders' decline but we'll have our work cut out once that happens.
I'm fairly happy with renewals. Based on first round declines, i feel like i have guesstimated new wages fairly well and handled the process well. i had originally hoped to go into the transfers with ~150k more cap space than this but that was always going to be difficult once Polanc turned on beast mode and with the changes to renewals (that are a good idea imo)

This is a very depressing availability list to post. While we don't want to to pull a Rabobank or plan to go full Eddie Stobart for transfers, this availability list is a bit in the shadows of our 2023 transfer season where we entered no less than 30 rider movements (buy, sell, loan) into the deals column of our transfer sheet with the clear goal to set ourself up for the next two or three seasons. As a result our squad contains a ton of riders we see staying with us for a couple of years and a very short list of available riders.
For now, only Van der Haar and Kanepejs look for a move, while Hannes Bergstrom Frisk is the most likely rider to join them if we get a good offer. Everyone else looks very likely to stay.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!
