SEE Turtles Remain Committed in CT
SEE Turtles aims to connect “people with sea turtles in meaningful, personal, and memorable ways.” After a challenging first year, the SEE Turtles saw moments of success, especially in TTTs and in the Tour of America sprints. Such success has shown our sponsors that cycling is a worthwhile investment and the SEE Turtles will continue on!
All credits to liefwarrior and many thanks for helping create this vision!
Proudly displaying the shells of these beautiful creatures on our jerseys, SEE Turtles hopes that their continued investment in the MGUCI will provide an opportunity to educate riders, staff, and fans on the important conservation efforts to protect sea turtles across the globe. Find out more about our mission: https://www.seeturtles.org/about-see-...ee-turtles
As a team, SEE Turtles bases itself out of the Galapagos Islands. Here, we will establish ourselves as a champion for Ecuadorian cycling. Our mission extends beyond the Galapagos with aims of fostering cycling across the Americas and the Caribbean, as our administrative headquarters sit in Portland, Oregon. Even more, we recognize the global impact of sea turtle conservation and want to promote cycling outside of Europe. Hopefully our successes represent the wealth of skill, beauty, and perseverance of our home nations.
As a sign of our commitment to the sport, SEE Turtles has decided to continue as the SOLE sponsor for the 2024 season! SEE Turtles is looking forward to welcoming further sponsors in the event of advancement, but remains committed to the cause of Ecuadorian cycling.
We look forward to competing alongside the rest of the Continental Division and contributing to such a wonderful cycling community.

I'm looking forward to seeing how you improve the team now that you've had a season to get your feet wet

Our first season of renewals was a tough one, with many riders fighting for higher wages after some successful seasons.
Departing:
Freddy Cruz, Youcef Reguigui, and Jorge Abreu were great contributors in the TTTs throughout the season, but stat declines due to age leave them without a spot in 2024.
Juan Sebastian Molano simply could not find many race days or ways to impact the team last year. We hope to see him contribute elsewhere this year.
Jose Alarcon and Robbie Squire were mountain hopefuls this past season, but just couldn't find success with the fatigue of being elderstatemen in the peloton.
Likewise, Carlos Betancourt must depart after a disappointing season. He provided... little.
Our only talent to depart is Jefferson Alexander Cepeda. Simply, we could not support another developing talent for the upcoming year heading into transfers. We always hope for the development of Ecuadorian talent and wish him well - although it is unlikely to be with the Turtles in 2024.
Returners:
This leaves the remainder of the team to return. Our difference total looks tough, but with our two CT Free Draft members earning a salary this season, that number is much exaggerated. Still, there were spirited debates between our top stars from 2023 as Hamza and Oka were willing to take a small pay cut. However, Tivani earned his extra cash with his ToA performance, as did Joshua Kelly with some fantastic overperformances. Even though he asked for some extra cash, we just weren't willing to see him depart.
Otherwise, only Duchesne stays on with us at a salary above the minimum. Still a great option in the hills, especially as top support, he is prepared to lead for one more season at least.

Streamlined team heading into transfers, space there to add a few pieces and push up just a few more places to the promotion fight!

You certainly have cap room to push the team forward. I am looking forward to see how the transfers go.

Looks like a solid roster to build from in the transfer window, looking forward to competing with you this season in CT, and seeing that lovely jersey in the peloton as well! |

Have to echo the others, a solid core to start from. If you can strengthen your weaker domains like mountains, hills and/or cobbles, you could be in for an interesting season

Your post-renewals squad looks well prepared for sprints and any kind of TTs, but you'll surely have to find some more options for uphill races and / or the cobbles. But I'm sure you'll find some leaders there. Best of luck!

Echoing what others have said, the Turtles look well prepared for the two disciplines that stick to flat tarmac with plenty of room for growth elsewhere. There are a couple of riders that I would consider dead weight, but all-round a strong package for another attempt at the Continental Tour. Mayhaps we'll have some discussions about whether I can supply you with some leadership for when the road goes up.

@Booker seeing that lovely jersey in the peloton as well! - always incredibly happy to sing liefwarrior's impact here! He made this jersey a reality and I couldn't be prouder to showcase it to the MG.

@DarkWolf You certainly have cap room to push the team forward. I am looking forward to see how the transfers go. - On both of these points, was very thankful to be able to renew a number of key riders without totally breaking the bank. Our top 4 wage earners had some great results in 2023 and I'm lucky to have been able to escape under 6 digits for each. Am hopeful to use the remaining room to make a splash although how is definitely up for debate

Mayhaps we'll have some discussions about whether I can supply you with some leadership for when the road goes up. - Been thinking about this a lot lately and especially for our Ecuadorian sponsors, gaining some strength when the road goes up hill feels crucial for our transfer season!
But also, what if we just don't...
something to think about!
After some additional thought, the SEE Turtles are happy to announce training developments for the good of the entire MGUCI. Our organizers have blocked off a few roster spots for incoming loans should our Ecuadorian training structures benefit your riders. They may have to battle for a spot against any long term Turtles trying to enter the team, but our commitment to young riders has never been stronger.

400k in cap space and then the loan cap should provide some opportunities to improve on top of a solid base. Not sure what Hamza and Oka are both doing together, surely one of them could find their way into a more likely availability for a discerning team of another division?
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

You've certainly trimmed a lot of fat during renewals, interested to see how you take advantage!

Welcome to the Team - Part 1
A number of riders have already come to new terms with the SEE Turtles this off season. Let's welcome our "older" additions to the team first, with our talents featuring in the upcoming days. Together they look to build the core of the SEE Turtles for 2024 and for years to come!
Julian Cardona - 50k
Nat. | Name | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | Age | | Julian Cardona | 73 | 64 | 63 | 77 | 72 | 74 | 68 | 62 | 64 | 67 | 62 | 65 | 77 | 27 |
Cardona arrives from ZARA - Irizar to continue the precedent started by the 2023 SEE Turtles in the time trial. He looks to be a strong leader for the team for many years at just 27 years of age. When necessary, we also trust him to hold the front of the peloton whenever our strong prologue core takes an early yellow jersey.
Luke Keough - 75k
Nat. | Name | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | Age | | Luke Keough | 72 | 59 | 61 | 57 | 65 | 71 | 71 | 58 | 78 | 77 | 62 | 74 | 79 | 33 |
Speaking of a strong prologue core, Luke Keough joins the SEE Turtles from MOL Cycling Team. While Keough might not remain with the Turtles for years and years to come, Keough fits perfectly into our team. Now our best sprinter and one of the top prologue riders in the division, he should be a strong leader in flat classics and flat stage races with a prologue.
Similo Nyoni - 50k
Nat. | Name | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | Age | | Similo Nyoni | 69 | 56 | 62 | 77 | 67 | 72 | 69 | 52 | 70 | 68 | 71 | 64 | 77 | 29 |
Similo Nyoni joins the SEE Turtles from our one and only jersey designer liefwarrior and the team of Tryg - Eni. Nyoni is a bit more of TT specialist than Cardona, but should be able to help in flat races as well. Still, a great addition to a TTT core and for great CT TTT results. We wouldn't be surprised if he features high on the CT rankings at the end of the season.
Alex Frame- 50k
Nat. | Name | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | Age | | Alex Frame | 71 | 50 | 62 | 69 | 69 | 74 | 72 | 62 | 77 | 76 | 52 | 68 | 79 | 31 |
Alex Frame joined when plans to grab Keough weren't too solid. Still, Frame is another great prologue/sprint option when there's another TT or TTT, as he highly outranks him there. Frame is also more than comfortable slotting into a domestique role when necessary. Will he be the best rider on the team? Unlikely! But he fits into a top support role for almost every top rider on the team.
German Anibal Orue- 55k
Nat. | Name | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | Age | | German Anibal Orue | 69 | 50 | 64 | 64 | 77 | 70 | 56 | 78 | 53 | 58 | 78 | 73 | 68 | 30 |
Our team found good success with German Nicolas Tivani and realized that "German" double names really fits the team spirit. The SEE Turtles avoided cobbles like the plague in 2024, but Orue's addition probably changes that! Orue won't take a sprint finish anytime soon, but strong stamina and cobbles mean that he should often make late groups if given the opportunity. Excited to see what he can bring!
