Tour de San Luis
The race is reported by AbhishekLFC
Welcome to the 12th edition of Tour de San Luis. The race has been a part of the MG calendar since 2010. Initially starting out as a 6 day event it has grown out to having 8 stages, but on its comeback it's now shrunk to 5 stages. While being friendlier to stage racers in the past it is now aiming to be the pre-eminent stage race for the classic puncheurs. There is still an early prologue time-trial, but the main action should feature on the two uphill stages. Two flat stages give the sprinters the chance to fight for a stage win.
With that said let's look at some of the favourites:
| FL | MO | HI | RS | SP | AC | PR | Paret-Peintre | 72 | 76 | 77 | 75 | 72 | 74 | 72 | Jensen | 71 | 70 | 80 | 73 | 66 | 76 | 70 | Edmondson | 70 | 69 | 79 | 72 | 70 | 76 | 64 | Teuns | 68 | 75 | 78 | 73 | 66 | 72 | 60 | Lagane | 70 | 70 | 77 | 71 | 75 | 77 | 65 | Mayer | 68 | 69 | 77 | 72 | 72 | 77 | 71 | Duchesne | 70 | 67 | 77 | 72 | 69 | 79 | 68 | Morin | 70 | 65 | 78 | 73 | 69 | 76 | 65 | Hindley | 71 | 72 | 76 | 72 | 67 | 73 | 67 | Goos | 70 | 76 | 73 | 74 | 66 | 72 | 75 | Zordan | 67 | 73 | 77 | 72 | 65 | 74 | 55 | Pacher | 70 | 71 | 75 | 74 | 70 | 73 | 63 | Gogl | 69 | 69 | 76 | 72 | 67 | 75 | 63 | Sirironnachai | 71 | 66 | 77 | 74 | 64 | 73 | 65 | Elosegui | 65 | 77 | 71 | 80 | 60 | 71 | 71 |
Paret-Peintre is far from the best puncheur here, but does have the best all around skillset. Climbing, punch, sprinting and time-trialing, he can do it all. He also has a potential super domestique in Teuns, so Ekoi could be looking at two good GC placings. Jensen also has a good case to come out on top as the clear best puncheur with a good prologue stat to boot. Edmondson probably follows as the 2nd best hill rider. Lagane could be really dangerous if stage 3 finishes with a sprint, although you could also see Podium Ambition prioritise Mayer who should be better placed following the short TT. The rest of the contenders are mostly pure hill riders with varying competence in a prologue. Two exceptions are the stage racers Goos and Elosegui who will try to profit from the time-trial and will be hoping the final stage suits their climbing skills.
| RS | AC | PR | | RS | AC | PR | Oka | 72 | 76 | 79 | Magnussen | 72 | 70 | 76 | Jiang | 73 | 75 | 79 | Vanderpool | 64 | 63 | 76 | Pszczolarski | 72 | 72 | 77 | Goos | 74 | 72 | 75 | Predatsch | 77 | 65 | 77 | Altanzul | 73 | 75 | 75 | Hennis | 72 | 76 | 76 | Kireva | 74 | 71 | 75 | Kelly | 73 | 72 | 76 | Reddish | 75 | 72 | 75 | Weinstein | 70 | 70 | 76 | Campbell | 68 | 73 | 75 |
The opening stage should be a battle between Oka and Jiang with Pszczolarski and Predatsch looking like the main challengers. The stage will likely draw more interest in how the GC men do.
Sprinter | FL | RS | SP | AC | Lead out | FL | RS | SP | AC | Minali | 73 | 74 | 79 | 79 | Stalberg | 63 | 73 | 71 | 69 | Krieger | 71 | 74 | 79 | 79 | Havik | 73 | 68 | 79 | 76 | Guerao | 70 | 58 | 79 | 70 | Wackermann | 74 | 74 | 74 | 72 | Altanzul | 72 | 73 | 78 | 75 | English | 78 | 73 | 71 | 75 | Bauhaus | 74 | 65 | 78 | 75 | Kreder | 72 | 69 | 76 | 76 | Colbrelli | 73 | 70 | 78 | 73 | Vendrame | 72 | 73 | 71 | 75 | Major | 74 | 70 | 77 | 78 | Lagane | 70 | 71 | 75 | 77 | Oka | 73 | 72 | 76 | 76 | Trillini | 70 | 69 | 73 | 76 | Räim | 74 | 72 | 76 | 75 | Pszczolarski | 73 | 72 | 71 | 72 | Redecker | 72 | 65 | 76 | 76 | Weiss | 70 | 70 | 73 | 74 | Itami | 71 | 61 | 76 | 76 | Arashiro | 81 | 67 | 70 | 75 |
It's not the toughest of sprint fields here in Argentina. Minali and Krieger are the headliners with one having super fast lead out and the other perhaps none. After that it's a pretty close call between the rest. Don't be surprised to see some upset results over the two flat stages.

This is the first time in the teams history we have one of the clear favourites a) for the GC and b) for an individual stage (a TT in addition). No need to tell you all lenghtily about how excited I am, but the expectations and hopes also imply a risk of huge disappointment. At least our best ever TT result should be safe if Jiang manages a Top 10 there ...
Thanks to red for the preview and looking forward to abhis reports!

I can't get my startlist here. No Rodriguez and no Lafay? Go home Imladrik, you're drunk. Sadly it's also a good occasion to the top 10 competitors to earn some valuable points...
Thanks for the preview, good luck everybody!

Not even a mention of Skjerping here? All right then, hopefully that will fire him up and get him going for a stage here.
GL everybody and thank you for the report redordead

Horrible stage from Weinstein. Talacka doing OK.
Have the feelings my riders would have better been in San Luis for the ToA than for the Tour of San Luis u_u
Thanks for the report, Crabbe rocking the season!

Thanks to Abhi for the report and congrats to Laurens on another stage win. At least you didn't bring Chiarello, so at least the GC should go to someobe else
But man, that was close. Great result for draftee Jiang nonetheless, maybe good enough for him to participate in the two sprints and snatch some nice points (and results) there to compete for a nice result in the points classification.
And finally good effort by APP to only lose 7'', this should give him a good position to start from for the GC fight.

This discussion thread go burried under the ToA. Strong team for us but one that may not deliver a ton of points. Bit of learning curve this year with how to use Lagane/Meyer.
Decent enough stage 1, but could have been better. Training money spent entirely on PRL next year is very much a possibility.

Congrats to TheUlamog for the stage win, it seems like the last few months saw some nice results for your team after a underwhelming start of the season. That's always good for the motivation (speaking as 17th in CT last season). Also thanks to Abhi for another nice report, especially for us!
Jiang is doing exactly what he's here for, adding some more team firsts to our long list today (see ToA thread for more ): he's our first ever race leader as well as our first ever points leader. And though he shouldn't be strong enough to stay in yellow (and hopefully the AI doesn't get the idea to let APP and Teuns work for him tomorrow) he could also well be our first rider to finish on the points podium. Not too bad for a drafted rider.
But now excuse me, I've got to go partying with the entire team (the others are here with the ToA) here in San Luis! Hopefully everyone will get the plane to the US in time, at least they should be able to sober on the flight
Spoiler Could we add some more San Luis based races to the CT calendar?

FIrst thanks for the previews and the reports so far!
The prologue was kinda meh for us, I wish our both riders, Predatsch and Magnussen could have been ranked a bit higher. But i will just be satisfied with what we got so far.
Stage 2 was another perfect sample of Minali's season, he didnt do awful but he should be capable of so much more but just cant deliver. Lets see what the next stages bring.
Congrats to the winner so far.

Gaetan Pons with the random podium result, what?! Nice to see our two free draft picks getting mentions on the same day (here and ToA stage 9).

Well we're in a solid position at the moment, but a lot still to change in this race which so far is finely balanced andn could have significant points scoring barings.

Two stage 1-2s in different races within 24 hours, surely this has to be a ManGame first?! Big congrats kb, this is really something!

Obviously another great result for us, this is the kind of race our team is build for! Also Teuns' first win for the team, though it probably would have been cleverer to let APP take the win for the time bonuses. But on the other hand that's quite some complaining on a high level. So let's just go all bananas
