Post Danmark Rundt
--
Preview
Welcome to Denmark for the Post Danmark Rundt. Despite being on the calendar since the inception of the ManGame in the 2008 season, the race has yet to see a two-time winner. And it’ll continue like this for at least another year, since none of the previous winners are on the startlist this time around. It’s still a stacked startlist though - but let’s look at the stages first.
Three sprint stages, a tricky hilly stage with a wide range of potential outcomes, and a concluding and very likely GC defining 35km time trial - that’s your Post Danmark Rundt.
| FL | MT | HI | TT | ST | RS | AC | Dunbar | 69 | 77 | 76 | 80 | 74 | 77 | 68 | Paillot | 70 | 70 | 71 | 80 | 75 | 74 | 64 | Brunel | 75 | 67 | 71 | 78 | 72 | 78 | 65 | Zmorka | 74 | 61 | 66 | 82 | 74 | 75 | 70 | Kung | 73 | 70 | 73 | 77 | 74 | 72 | 71 | Daniel | 75 | 67 | 72 | 77 | 75 | 74 | 68 | Norsgaard | 73 | 62 | 65 | 79 | 69 | 75 | 66 | Bissegger | 74 | 68 | 69 | 78 | 73 | 77 | 73 | Jungels | 72 | 64 | 68 | 78 | 74 | 75 | 63 | Beniusis | 71 | 69 | 60 | 79 | 71 | 73 | 67 |
Dunbar is the top favorite here, attempting to bring his team closer and closer to promotion. He’s a Top 5 time trialist, and among those, he’s easily the best puncheur. No matter how selective stage 3 will be, he should be near the front and will then have to perform in the time trial to improve on last year’s 5th overall place.
Paillot, who bested Dunbar last year and finished 3rd, Jura GIANTS trio Brunel, Kung and Bissegger, as well as Daniel are among the better puncheurs of the elite time trialists, hoping for at least a somewhat - but not too - selective day 3.
Meanwhile, PCT TT dominator Zmorka will hope for the exact opposite. The Ukranian finished 4th here two years ago, so he knows he can place highly in the GC, too. Norsgaard, and to a slightly lesser extent Jungels and Beniusis, will also struggle on the hills.
| FL | MT | HI | TT | ST | RS | AC | Sütterlin | 71 | 59 | 65 | 80 | 73 | 77 | 60 | Gonzalez Salas | 70 | 57 | 60 | 80 | 74 | 76 | 54 | Rekita | 72 | 58 | 63 | 79 | 70 | 73 | 70 | Sterbini | 68 | 56 | 66 | 78 | 74 | 73 | 67 | Sajnok | 74 | 61 | 65 | 78 | 70 | 76 | 72 | Belevics | 76 | 60 | 64 | 78 | 73 | 72 | 66 | Noia | 76 | 58 | 60 | 78 | 70 | 74 | 69 | Golovash | 72 | 60 | 60 | 78 | 72 | 69 | 76 | Vangstad | 74 | 72 | 70 | 77 | 74 | 75 | 68 | Eaton | 75 | 62 | 69 | 77 | 74 | 76 | 68 | O'Loughlin | 73 | 65 | 68 | 77 | 69 | 74 | 64 | Marryatt | 71 | 61 | 68 | 77 | 67 | 74 | 58 | Affini | 73 | 66 | 67 | 77 | 76 | 79 | 70 | Sipos | 69 | 68 | 70 | 76 | 75 | 73 | 64 | Matsuda | 74 | 65 | 70 | 75 | 69 | 74 | 71 | Potocki | 70 | 69 | 70 | 75 | 73 | 75 | 68 | Misbah | 68 | 77 | 70 | 75 | 76 | 73 | 68 |
This list consists of the best time trialists who might just lose too much on the hills to remain GC relevant, led by Sütterlin, Gonzalez Salas and Rekita on the one hand, and the better hill riders among the second-tier time trialists, such as Vangstad, Eaton or even Misbah on the other.
While the former could still score a decent GC finish if there are few and small gaps on day 3, the latter need the exact opposite, as they won’t be able to do it on the back of their ITT skills alone. As an aside, Matsuda and Potocki are likely the only riders who can realistically prevent the expected Jura GIANTS 1-2 of Brunel and Bissegger in the U25 classification, if things somehow break their way.
| FL | ST | RS | SP | AC | Groenewegen | 73 | 74 | 71 | 82 | 81 | Vesely | 73 | 74 | 68 | 81 | 80 | Bonifazio | 79 | 68 | 75 | 80 | 80 | Zabel | 74 | 74 | 70 | 81 | 79 | Abdul Halil | 70 | 71 | 68 | 81 | 79 | Lutsyshyn | 70 | 69 | 73 | 79 | 80 | Rodenberg | 74 | 70 | 77 | 79 | 79 | Walscheid | 73 | 71 | 74 | 79 | 79 | Kennett | 75 | 73 | 76 | 79 | 78 | Howard | 74 | 72 | 67 | 80 | 76 | Reinhardt | 70 | 71 | 64 | 78 | 82 | Lo Cicero | 68 | 65 | 57 | 80 | 72 | Bol | 76 | 75 | 77 | 79 | 77 | Petit | 75 | 74 | 70 | 79 | 76 | Gibbons | 75 | 73 | 72 | 78 | 78 | Walls | 72 | 71 | 70 | 78 | 76 | Guerao | 70 | 65 | 58 | 79 | 70 | Kiskonen | 74 | 77 | 77 | 77 | 77 | Berger | 73 | 72 | 68 | 77 | 77 | Bauhaus | 74 | 71 | 65 | 78 | 75 | Räim | 74 | 73 | 72 | 76 | 75 |
With three sprint stages, including the chance to battle for the yellow jersey on days 1 and 2, it’s no wonder that many of PCT’s best sprinters are here. Groenewegen tops the list and Fastned bring an impressive leadout that includes Vingerling and Matthews. Vesely, Bonifazio, Zabel and Abdul Halil should be their biggest challengers on paper, but we’ll have to see how much that paper is worth.
| FL | MT | HI | ST | RS | SP | AC | Moscon | 71 | 73 | 80 | 76 | 77 | 59 | 73 | Kanerva | 69 | 64 | 79 | 75 | 69 | 64 | 76 | Van Garderen | 69 | 68 | 78 | 72 | 69 | 66 | 73 | Asgreen | 67 | 66 | 77 | 70 | 69 | 64 | 74 | Yates | 71 | 65 | 78 | 77 | 74 | 62 | 69 | Villella | 72 | 65 | 77 | 72 | 74 | 65 | 80 | Hoelgaard | 72 | 74 | 77 | 72 | 72 | 68 | 74 | Sirironnachai | 71 | 66 | 77 | 77 | 74 | 64 | 73 | Carr | 68 | 70 | 77 | 74 | 71 | 59 | 72 | Pellaud | 70 | 65 | 77 | 74 | 68 | 65 | 70 |
There are some puncheurs here who will solely target stage 3. Moscon is the strongest on paper, but many will hope to challenge him, with Kanerva and Van Garderen perhaps having the best odds. Kanerva, Yates and Asgreen are the likeliest candidates to sneak into a good GC position with an okay TT if the peloton explodes over the hills.

Thank you for taking this race!
Here for the XP, mainly. Maybe Guerao can have some sprints points, and Berthet chase some climbs.

Hard to expect a ton, maybe Beniušis can give us top 10 GC, probably not much more

Thanks for the great preview, cunego! Like the preview mentions, we're hoping for S3 to be as unselective as possible. Dunbar the favourite, but hopefully Zmorka can finish in the top-3 or something in GC as well. Good luck to all.

Here's hoping for a moderately selective Stage 3 to play to Daniel's favor. No puncheurs in our lineup so we shouldn't be confused about who we are riding for. But this is a weird race from an AI perspective so not sure how it will handle it, might just favor pure TT strength like Ukraine did and so only top TTers will get priority.
Walscheid well placed in the sprinter tiers so hopefully some action from him.

Pre-month, I was expecting this race to be the one that could make or break our month of August. Well, with how lucky we've been in the previous races, it's far more relaxed for us now - we have overachieved our points goal by far, so basically we're just in "bonus mode" now.
Just like some previous races, this could go very well or very bad for us. The sprint part is unfortunately more likely to be on the "very bad" side, with Bol being incredibly disappointing lately - a Top 5 sprinter in Vineyards, and all he got out of 3 occasions was one Top 10... So maybe being somewhat lower in the pecking order will suit him better - but lately he could be wherever he wanted on the favourites list, he just didn't deliver... But why not here, in his last stage race of the year? Given his hill skill - and given that 71 puncheur Cosnefroy took 1st and 2nd on stage 3 in the last two editions - Bol could even be in the mix on the hilly stage...
Which might actually be crucial - as we don't have a puncheur here, we'll have to hope for great positioning by our TTers, and having a competitve sprinter might favour this. I don't expect Rekita to be anywhere near the front - but Brunel and especially Küng will hopefully be in the front group. Especially the latter still has yet to deliver his King-Küng moment of the year, as he almost always did in recent seasons.
All in all, I'm expecting 80 points here - it could be much less, but it could also be far more. And as said before, the good thing is we're currently not in desperate need of points - which shouldn't be an excuse for not giving our best, though!
Good luck to all participants, and thanks for the preview!

Big expectations for this one, can’t do any worse than a top-5 or we’re probably done in terms of promotion with our remaining races. Top-5 should be achievable, but we have to hope that s3 is selective and the as many pure TT riders as possible can be dropped. I don’t think that’ll be the case with this game version and expect all the sprinters to fight for the win and leave the TT as a shootout on the final day. Thanks for the preview!

Hopefully we can have a good race here. Not sure what to expect here but it can't be any worse then our season so far. Just go out there and we will see what happens. I feel we have an underdog squad so it will be interesting!

GC wise my lack of TT riders will hurt once again...
Though Groenewegen hopefully with one of his better races again. Can`t need his underperformances any longer seeing the rankings. |

Jungels chances are quite exaggerated in the preview as he's not done much all season to get my hopes up. Vesely was our hope for decent points when we picked this lineup.
That hope looks to be quite misplaced now.
Congrats to Mre and thanks for the report cunego!

Nice to see former rider Walls grabbing the win here, congrats Mre. Also good to see the time trialists up there in top-20 etc. Makes me hope they will be attentive in the hill stage as well. On the other hand a shame that riders such as Bol and Vesely in 24th performed like they did. Getting beaten by Zmorka and Moutsios as a 81 sprinter is rather unnecessary.
Thank you for a great report as always, cunego

Weird sprint here.
For a moment I was happy to see Groenewegen behind the others in 4-5th position, which I expected to be perfect.
Though he never really was able to accelerate from there. Meanwhile Zabel from the expected awful position still coming in 2nd.
I guess the wind might have come from straight behind here, helping the early ones.
Big win by Walls nevertheless.
Next sprints must be better obviously to score. |

Obviously not happy with 15th place by Bol here. But yeah, it was another pretty random sprint, and others were hit even worse, so...
But I can't really blame Bol this time. I think picking Vesely's wheel was a good choice; sadly the latter got boxed in, and then it was too late to react.
I also think that there was quite some strong wind from the right, with most of the riders still on the left side of the road with less than 3km to go. Which made it even harder to gain ground. And there were far too many random riders up there as well - nothing unusual, just random sprint AI ^^ Not really much hope left Bol will finally get some luck again, looks like he used up all of it in the Giro...
At least our most important TTers were in the Top 50, although they were still far behind the top TTers... we'll see what that means in the end, hopefully they'll be even further up on day 3.
Congrats to those who did well, especially Zwift. Thanks for the report.

What the hell was that?
That’s got to be one of the weirdest sprints we’ve been a part of. Gani with an awesome lead out, but for Dunbar? He did so well to finish 5th which is a great result but that’s so wacky especially with Abdul Halil finishing 41st
Congrats to zwift, good win for Walls.
Thanks for the report!

This will be an interresting race, not sure what to expect from our guys really.
Any point here may prove vital for our promotion hopes!
Gla we avoided any time loss on the first stage, on to the next!
Congrats to Zwift and thank you very much Cunego! |

Sprints in Danmark surely are something else. Good to see the top favourite win, but once again feeling bad for Sony.. Moutsios sprinting was also interesting to see, a 13th place is something he should be proud of
Thanks for the nice report, cunego!
