Not quite the Ardennes yet, but we’re not that far and the roads in Luxembourg should be a difficult one : it’s long, it’s bumpy, and some of the best puncheurs of the Pro Tour are eager to fight for a win. Let’s see who are the favourites to take over Turgis’ crown, as the Frenchman is not returning.

Damn, that line-up looks good.
De Bie and Lopez do seem a bit better than their opponents. The Belgian got himself a 6th place in this race in 2020, and will try to really launch his season. He has two good supports in Enrico Barbin and Nico Denz, the latter finishing 30th here last year.
While De Bie was 6th in 2020, Miguel Angel Lopez won this race, and came back to make 6th in 2021. He should as always have a target on his back, moreover as he’s accompanied with a strong field of support and secondary leaders, with Blums, Vosekalns and Polanc.
Toms Skujins is a veteran here – he finished 2nd in 2018 and 5th in 2019, though while riding for Evonik-ELKO. While his supports seem weaker than those of the aforementionned rider, his greater endurance should allow him to play a big role in the race.
Peter Sagan is another former winner and veteran returning. He won here in 2017 and 2019, and was already 12th in 2014 ! Accompanied by Di Maggio – a top 10 contender in his own right –, he’ll try to secure a third win for Moser-Sygic.
Kelderman already was battling with Sagan in those time. He’ll bring his experience to Los Pollos Hermanos to do good. As will Jay McCarthy for Amaysim and Koretzky for ELCO-ABEA, the latter finishing second last year and having generally good result in this race.
Behind them, Kwiatkowski, Yates, Müller and Benoot all have a shot at the victory, and at least at a very good result, while EA Vesuvio duo Valer/Ulissi, or Preidler for Aker-MOT and Gerts for Husi Chocolate could cause a bit of trouble to the favourites.

Lopez won this in the past and hopefully he will try to do so again. Got a pretty good support squad here for him to hopefully control the race and make it hard despite struggling with a good triple header split for once.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

I usually always pick the wrong hill event with De Bie in the PT triple.
Hopefully his classic performance from last year makes this choice here the better option as race day wise going to PN/TA surely had worked as well.
Being no.1 on list makes a win always possible. Though MAL is a level ahead and will be hard to beat while Skujins/Sagan or also Koretzky/Yates are riders, that use to beat De Bie from time to time, I hope that no other rider will be in the mix in the end.
A top3 or top5 minimum is absolutely needed from De Bie in most races he enters.
Support as you say is decent with Barbin/Denz but also Vansevenant, De Kleijn, Robeet. Only problem is 6 riders only for me.
Looking forward to this one and always nice to see new reporters! |

The biggest thing we take from the startlist here, is that the chances for Mohoric in Tirreno looks promising. For this one, Preidler has been around the top 10-top 20 before, and we hope he can do it again. Will obviously need a difficult race for that, and hopefully Evonik gives the peloton just that for MAL.
Also excited to see what Kwiatkowski can do here, with his Pro Tour return! |

Yay, Kwiats first race at our team. Im very excited. A TOP5 will be a great result, given the startlist. |

Getting ourselves in the BOTD would already be an achivement for ourselves here. Hopefully we can pull it off!
Interested to see who will come out on top though.

Thought Higuita might be wasted here so went for the Tirreno instead, could be a bad decision looking at the startlists. The break has been good in the past here though, so let's hope for that.

Would have liked a couple of the big guys to go for Tirreno, but it’s always a bit of a gamble. Koretzky has a decent shot at top 10, and we need him to deliver in order to make the tripple-header anything but disastrous.

If Kelderman would actually manage to grab a top-5 that would be amazing. Thanks for the preview and your first report, Imladrik!

I have less ambitions here than in the last years. Quita is leading my team here. Maybe he can get a top 20. |

Hope to see some of my guys in the break. De Gendt and Van der Poel might be able to pull something off, but not the biggest expectations.

Our best Grand Duché leader in years (since Bobridge used to race T-A or P-N) comes with a wildcard. Obviously no pressure then and we don't care about the startlist. That said, it would be still nice to show our colors and get a nice result amongst our long-time PT competitors.

Hmm yeah okay. 7th is alright from Koretzky I guess. But then Kastrantas - what the actual f…?!
Absolutely brilliant to take 5th here after working so hard for Koretzky. Also a few minor points. Great result!

Thanks a lot for a really nice report Imladrik!
Great result - my team worked strong and even though his attacks went nowhere - I was a lot surprised Sagan still had enough in him for the final sprint. 3rd win of his career here, this Luxembourg classic surely has to be his most successful race now.

Thanks for the report. Great coverage of the action!
McCarthy delivered again. They said they didn't like his training and it seems to push him to really nice results He was always there, when the moves went, which is always nice to see, when it doesn't mean he's wasting his energy. Apparently he didn't, as he had a nice position and kick at the final climb. Wildcard cash well spent

Things continue to not go well for us. This used to be a top 10 race for Gerts in the last couple of seasons. But to be fair, I don't think the startlist was ever this good.

I'm wondering if it would be possible to change to PCT midway through the season so that we could actually compete in races
Congrats to Roman and thank you Imladrik!

Ouch, what an incredibly bad performance from Kelderman to only finish 15th. The team did so well, but he must have had a bad day as he wasn't able to follow any attack or do the slightest thing on the final hill. This was supposed to be our best triple header race, so it's not looking very promising
Congratulations to Roman and a big thank you to Imladrik for the phenomenal report, it feels like you've been doing this for years.

Nothing, as expected, but that's what happens when you gamble for the break. Incredible race for Moser and especially Elco, as much as SotD may talk them down they still look like podium contenders.
Great report, was a really fun read!
