Franceville Classique
Welcome to the 3rd edition of the Franceville Classique. The race is once again in the PTHC and continues to take advantage of the year round warmth in Gabon by being ridden in january.
The inaugural edition was won by Yoeri Havik for Duolingo with Gaetan Pons and Matt Rowe taking the other podium spots. Havik won it from the break, outsprinting 13 others with the big guns trailing in together almost 3 minutes down. The 204 km parcours is the same this year so the leaders will be need to rethink their strategy to make sure the break doesn’t stay away.
Last year saw the legendary Sam Bewley add another race to his extensive palmares. He took that victory in Mapei colours, but returns this year for Amaysim Cervélo. He finished in a trio, about 30 seconds ahead of the chasing group, alongside Lukasz Wisniowski and Joeri Stallaert. These two also return; the former has moved from Grieg-Maersk to Aker - MOT, the latter continues on for Bralirwa - Stevens.
Havik is back for a third time, but is likely to spend his time riding as a domestique for Edward Theuns instead of challenging for victory.

Lukasz Wisniowski is again the top cobbler in the field but, given we've yet to see a solo victory, eveyone will be watching the veteran Sam Bewley despite another year of decline. Lukasz's departure means Grieg’s focus has switched to Mads Pedersen, one of few men who can challenge Sam in a sprint. The others that fit that bill include Joeri Stallaert, last year's runner up, and Edward Theuns, who I believe is riding this race for the first time.

Thanks for putting past-prime Bewley prominently into the list of favorites
Obviously anything within Top-10 would be a surprise though. All those guys around him look too strong for us. Just hoping for our few cobblers to show our colors at some point of the race and for Bewley to be in the front groups as long as possible.

This is a big one for us! Really hope we get to see Wisniowski fighting for the win, eventhough this one is likely to be on the easier side seeing other one day cobbles races.
Also excited to see how our team plays it, and how Wisniowski's support will be. |

Let's get a breakaway and not a 0-pointer would be amazing

This might be a tough one for Teunissen due to his slow sprint.

PTHC cobbles is always tough since top PT guys are always gonna show up i fit's in their bands.
Trentin is outmatched in strength here. No hilsl means he has no comparative advantage over other 80 guys and nothing to make up for low RES. So, we'll have to hope he can stick with the main group and let his sprint help him get a decent placing at the end. We want a big season from him after keeping him, so hopefully he can get off to a good start.

Big one for Stallaert. It's one of our win goals and the first step to keeping up last year's points. Tough field, I expect Wisniowski and Pedersen to be the main rivals. I'll be happy with a podium finish, anything outside of the Top 5 would be a big disappointment.

One of the least interesting cobble races of the year for us. Not an ideal profile for Polanc so Neilands might actually be option 1a here. No big expectations but competing for a top ten would be good.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

The team has been sent here with the goal to enjoy the scenery and to try and beat the broom wagon home. Anything more is a bonus
Keen to see Pedersen and Per in action here. Thanks for the preview!

Yesssss <3 Fantastic job by Stallaert, winning that sprint. Our domestique exodus didn't hurt us here as other teams stepped up, so that was good to see, too. And indeed, nice to sneak a couple of depth points in there by Okbamariam and Menicucci.
Performance of the day arguably by Venturini, and big points for Binance with Blythe in 4th as well, congrats! And thank you for the nice report lief. The format takes a little getting used to, but I really enjoy it!

I'm not sure what to say. I don't know how even a -5 does enough to make that possible. Even -5's from the entire team don't do that. Wow.

Congrats Cunego! Stallaert showing early n that last season wasn’t a fluke. Great win!
disappointed to have missed the break, but at least we finish with the lanterne rouge! Thanks for the report as well, I enjoyed the format!

Good performance for us to build on with two in the Top 20 and an active race all-around for the guys. Even Girmay joined his future teammates in the breakaway
Congrats cunego! And I enjoyed the different style of reporting

For what was only an XP race I have to take that 18th place by Poljanec and run with it. In the end maybe every point will count.
Thanks for the report
