Course de Solidarnosc
Witamy w Polsce na „Course de Solidarność” 2020! While to my eternal disappointment the riders won't be taking the opportunity here to brush up on their Polish, we should be in for four fantastic days of C2HC racing with most of the top sprinters in the division here.
The Favourites | FL | STA | RES | SP | ACC | Kragh Andersen | 77 | 70 | 74 | 81 | 77 | Lavoine | 73 | 71 | 64 | 80 | 78 | Carsi | 70 | 66 | 69 | 80 | 82 | Salleh | 70 | 73 | 65 | 80 | 80 | Guillen | 66 | 64 | 60 | 80 | 80 | Reinhardt | 71 | 73 | 66 | 79 | 84 | Bertilsson | 73 | 72 | 71 | 79 | 77 | Pelucchi | 74 | 74 | 70 | 79 | 77 | Keough | 73 | 67 | 73 | 79 | 79 | Krieger | 71 | 71 | 74 | 79 | 79 | Bennett | 71 | 74 | 68 | 79 | 79 | Colbrelli | 74 | 74 | 72 | 79 | 75 | Kip | 68 | 65 | 61 | 79 | 80 | Page | 75 | 72 | 72 | 78 | 79 | Van der Sanden | 73 | 71 | 69 | 78 | 79 | Altanzul | 72 | 68 | 73 | 78 | 75 | Cisse | 74 | 73 | 67 | 78 | 77 | Ranneries | 70 | 68 | 65 | 78 | 82 | Martinelli | 71 | 73 | 70 | 78 | 78 | Yamamoto | 72 | 71 | 67 | 78 | 78 | Bogdanovics | 73 | 74 | 69 | 78 | 77 |
Kragh Andersen is the fastest man here on paper, but consistency has been a challenge for him at the best of times. Lavoine, Carsi, Salleh and Guillen also have impressive finishing speed but struggle when the going gets tough so questions have to be asked about whether they can keep up the pace across all four stages.
Instead, more well rounded riders such as Reinhardt, Pelucchi, Keough, Krieger and Bennett may prove to be better bets if they can harness some consistency. Add in the potential for a breakaway to upset the odds, and a great race awaits us!

Should be interesting to follow the last battle of the 2020 season between the best CT sprinters!

Last goal race of the season, hopefully Keough can rediscover his interest in actually sprinting and we can get a GC top 10.

Assuming we stay in the top 5 of the CT standings by the end of the season, I have completed 4/5 goals already this season. That's unbelievably amazing, and more than I ever could have hoped for. There's only one way it could get better, and it would be if we could somehow get a GC top 5 here, completing our 5th and final goal.
There's only one problem: Asbjorn Kragh Andersen is the sprinter we're relying on to get that top 5. In theory, it should be possible, even leaning towards probable. Unfortunately, PCM sprints are not won in theory. They're won by lottery. And I don't know if I've worn enough lucky socks this week to make that work. We'll just have to hope we get lucky on a couple of the stages and get enough time bonuses from that to sneak into a GC top 5.
What a waste for me to have sent Bertilsson here too despite the clash. he could have tried to mop up minor points in Australia. I was trying to maximize AKA's chances since this is a goal race, but I had no way of knowing that Bertilsson wouldn't do a single leadout for AKA the entire season. More pack fodder. At least he's cheap.
Thanks for the preview! |

Van der Sanden has been disappointing and we don't expect much here either. Maybe a couple of stage results is the best we can hope for. Maybe we can get into a successful breakaway but that's unlikely in this kind of race too.
Thanks for the preview

Bennett was competitive in Tour of America but I think that was down to a smaller sprinter field. He hasn't been close to most of these guys all season and King who worked as a good leadout man in America is at the other race !
Thanks for preview, here's hoping for a few top 10s

Really don't expect much here but at the same time we do need points to stay in the fight for 5th place overall. Our best chance is from the breakaway and hopefully for once in my MG career my team can actually win a KOM jersey.

That was a painful start for Los Pollos, not present in the break and the sprint. Ranking wise also not ideal to see our competitor for sixth score so well
Still many congratulations to lief of course, and a big thanks to jph as well for the first stage and the preview!

Too predictable. Top favorite on the startlist, leadout man good enough to on the favorites list himself. No one in the top 10.
4/5 goals for the year isn't too bad. Trying not to care about this.

I guess Redecker and Habtom are just too slow to do anything in a regular sprint. Lesson learned for next year, that's for sure Hopefully we'll continue to participate in the breakaways, maybe snatch that KoM jersey tomorrow?

Keogh's appears to have decided he just don't want to bother himself with sprinting any more.

Unlike in Herald Sun Tour, the start here was great! The Stocker - Cissé - Reinhardt combo once again worked like a charm - and we missed out on the win by just a few inches. Not nice to lose against Krieger, but his good resistance probably earned him the win here. Congrats, lief!
And the no-show of Keough, AKA et al. is just pathetic, really not funny. Sorry for you, guys!

Alright, there we go! That's our lucky spin of the wheel. Very strong sprint by AKA to stay at the front that long and not budge to anyone in the slipstream, especially in PCM 18. It's the kind of thing that makes you wonder why he doesn't try so often.
Unfortunately, since a bunch of guys repeated their minor placings, that will almost certainly not be enough for the top 5. We'll need either two more top 10's or another top 5 to be in the hunt. It's not impossible, and the fact that we're not in yellow should help, since Krieger did not respond favorably to the GC lead. We'll give it a go. Leaving with a stage win is already better than expected. A great GC place to satisfy our goal would go a long way to making up for AKA's issues this year.
Commiserations to Keough and Ulrich. Hopefully tomorrow will be your lucky day.

Clearly Frankovic has decided if Keough isn't going to sprint he may as well try.
I would be perfectly happy with 10th on GC which is where he sits but think he is unlikely to repeat today's performance.
Keough showed some signs of life in that 14th is better than 20th, so perhaps a top 10 tomorrow.
Thanks for the sympathy and the repots.
I have a new theory that it isn't the curse of the yellow jersey but the curse of the GC favorite, which in a flat race with big time bonuses is likely to be the yellow jersey. Will post on that in the appropriate thread in the days to come.

Well at least that's something from VDS on Stage 2 after the expected no-show on Stage 1. Decent effort from Bovenhuis on the first stage. Hope he goes again in one of the other stages.
Thanks for the reports jph and congrats to the winners so far

Well, no KOM for us (unsurprisingly). We would need major good luck if we want to get anything out of this race.

Guillén better positioned than yesterday, but fading hard in the last 200 meters results into another out of the top-10 finish, hard. Unless he actually wins a stage, we'll only collect very minor points here.
And that is also thanks to Gonzales! Our free agent and possible future Peruvian champion will normally finish third in the KoM-classification after scoring those three KoM-points today, meaning he will score the first points of his career
Thanks for the report jph!
