Hello UAE! This is the first edition of this stage race in the Emirates. The profiles are some of the flattest in the calendar with the Arabian deserts and cityscapes providing beautiful backgrounds to the stages.
The race starts with a Prologue, which is slightly longer than the traditional ones. The riders good against the clock will be favoured to take the first Leader's Jersey. The next two stages are moderate length mostly flat stages, which will allow the sprinters to claim back some time. Stage 4 looks likely to be the decider, with the longer TT allowing the specialists to gain more time. The final stage is another one for the sprinters.
| FLA | TT | RES | REC | SPR | ACC | Fiedler | 78 | 82 | 74 | 76 | 65 | 61 | Zmorka | 74 | 82 | 75 | 72 | 62 | 70 | Schädlich | 70 | 80 | 71 | 73 | 70 | 76 | Howson | 71 | 80 | 74 | 72 | 64 | 68 | Paillot | 70 | 80 | 74 | 68 | 63 | 64 | Kittel | 75 | 81 | 70 | 68 | 60 | 73 | Sergent | 79 | 80 | 74 | 71 | 61 | 51 | Gonzalez Salas | 70 | 80 | 76 | 67 | 61 | 54 | Dempster | 73 | 78 | 72 | 71 | 70 | 70 | Mullen | 75 | 79 | 74 | 72 | 60 | 70 | Nareklishvili | 74 | 78 | 74 | 69 | 66 | 67 | Viennet | 72 | 80 | 75 | 72 | 55 | 64 |
Fiedler starts as top favourite, with his strong TT and flat skills. Zmorka, with identical TT capabilities is the other top favourite,
The leading duo will be run close by Schadlich, Howson and Paillot, none of who have had a great season, but have been solid in certain appearances.
Kittel has not had a good season at all and will look to improve in this race. Repsol's three pronged attack is completed by Gonzalez Salas, who has been relatively better this season.
Sergent carries a bit of responsibility to score well for his team and keep them above the relegation spots.
Dempster is Duolingo's second option.
Polar is another team who've brought two top contenders in Mullen and Viennet.
Nareklishvili looks to Zalgiris's best option for this race.
| FLA | TT | RES | REC | SPR | ACC | Postlberger | 73 | 77 | 72 | 69 | 69 | 70 | Hofer | 73 | 78 | 72 | 68 | 63 | 68 | Rekita | 71 | 77 | 71 | 71 | 69 | 69 | Atkins | 75 | 78 | 75 | 72 | 61 | 63 | Balloni | 73 | 78 | 71 | 68 | 63 | 67 | Goldstein | 74 | 79 | 72 | 72 | 58 | 61 | Vandousselaere | 74 | 76 | 72 | 71 | 70 | 71 | Archbold | 73 | 77 | 71 | 70 | 73 | 75 | Eaton | 75 | 77 | 76 | 74 | 62 | 68 | Silvestre | 78 | 73 | 71 | 74 | 80 | 81 | Stimulak | 73 | 77 | 72 | 69 | 72 | 74 | Hacecky | 73 | 76 | 72 | 66 | 70 | 74 | Janse van Rensburg | 70 | 78 | 71 | 69 | 60 | 76 |
Repsol's strength in depth is on clear display with Postlberger making the top of the outsiders' list.
Minions and Mapei have three riders each in the above list, with Mapei's cause being further boosted by having the overall top favourite as well, as already elaborated in the previous section.
Silvestre is the best sprinter in either list.
| FLA | TT | PRL | Zmorka | 74 | 82 | 82 | Fiedler | 78 | 82 | 81 | Kittel | 75 | 81 | 81 | Schädlich | 70 | 80 | 80 | Howson | 71 | 80 | 80 | Paillot | 70 | 80 | 80 | Gonzalez Salas | 70 | 80 | 80 | Sergent | 79 | 80 | 80 | Viennet | 72 | 80 | 80 | Goldstein | 74 | 79 | 79 | Mottin | 69 | 79 | 79 | Mullen | 75 | 79 | 78 | Dempster | 73 | 78 | 78 | Hofer | 73 | 78 | 78 | Balloni | 73 | 78 | 78 | Janse van Rensburg | 70 | 78 | 78 |
Zmorka starts as top favourite for the Prologue on account his better ability over shorter distances. It remains to be seen whether this translates on this particular route. Fiedler and Kittel are next, although the latter has flattered to deceive on multiple occasions this season.
Most of the same names repeat from the favourites' list as Prologue ability might not be the only deciding factor for this stage.
| FLA | RES | SPR | ACC | Guerao | 74 | 64 | 83 | 76 | Gaviria | 76 | 76 | 81 | 84 | Manninen | 74 | 75 | 81 | 80 | Maksimov | 72 | 69 | 81 | 84 | Kemboi | 78 | 77 | 80 | 80 | Silvestre | 78 | 71 | 80 | 81 | Boeckmans | 72 | 70 | 80 | 82 | Guardini | 72 | 69 | 80 | 82 | Itami | 75 | 67 | 80 | 82 | Drapac | 71 | 65 | 80 | 79 | Lutsyshyn | 70 | 73 | 79 | 80 | Kalaba | 74 | 72 | 79 | 79 | Boivin | 74 | 70 | 79 | 80 | Matthews | 76 | 67 | 79 | 79 | Willwohl | 73 | 67 | 79 | 78 | Awang | 64 | 62 | 79 | 83 |
Guerao is the fastest man in the race but it takes him time tog et there and he can't hold it for very long. Perhaps for these reasons, it might be wiser to put your money on Gaviria and Manninen as the real top favourites for the sprint stages. Taking nothing away from the Zalgiris fast man, he should still be a contender.
Maksimov is fast rider as well but his support stats leave a little to be desired.
Two riders to keep an eye on, especially on Stages 2 and 3 are Kemboi and Silvestre, because both decently good against the clock and will be looking to snatch the leaders jersey away from the TT specialists, if only temporarily.
A lot rides on Boeckmans and Itami, to keep the points coming in for their respective teams in the relegation battle. Both have had a good season so far.
Guardini will be hoping to supplement Fiedler, who looks set to have a good race. This could be big chance for Mapei to score big points in the title and promotion races.
The others in the list - Drapac, Lutsyshyn, Kalaba, Boivin. Matthews, Willwohl and Awang, will be hoping to pull off upsets if they are to beat the riders mentioned before them. None of them, with perhaps the exception of Kalaba have had good seasons so far.

We have a few decent but not spectacular time trialists, hopefully a few points will fall our way.

I can't remember if I missed the time trials or just had 5 race days left for Gaviria..
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Somewhat weaker shortlist, which bodes well cause I picked this race as a potential big scorer, a few clashes iirc. Won't be winning the race, our TTers have been very inconsistent, but if we can get Hofer and Narek in top 15 and Jelle in top 30, that would be good enough and I think it's doable. Guerao is a total wildcard, probably good for like 10 points total from his favorite 6-8th finishes

Top 5 from Schädlich would be great, maybe a couple of depth scorers as well?
Thanks for the preview Abhi.

Mottin is not on the outsiders list, but I hope he can finally perform in accordance with his TT stats and get us a decent GC spot. Boeckmans also has all the support we can muster in the hopes he scores some good results in the sprints. We need to score some meaningful points in the relegation battle here.
Thanks for the preview Abhi

Easy TT profiles might suit to Viennet well, All he needs is good daily form for once! Mullen will surely add some points, too. I expect to see him at around 15th place overall.
Thanks for the preview Abhi.

TTs are usually good to us, but we excel in collective effort rather than individual ones. A top5 would be desieable here, but it's not going to be easy.
Thanks for the preview Abhi!

I remain very afraid of a Repsol 1-2-3 with Paillot down in 15th and Kemboi refusing to sprint |

Jallays needed to do a bit better, but we do have 2 guys in top 15, gotta stay in the peloton and we should be fine

Awful start, another annoying underperformance from my team in TT.

Well, at least we won't ever have to worry about Gaviria getting the yellow jersey not sprinting bug.

An actually good performance from Mottin for once
The longer TT will be the big decider, but this is a solid start. Nice to see two others in the top 50, I hope they can stay there as every point counts. Now it's time for Boeckmans to do something in the sprints.
Congrats on the win Heine

Strong ride from Paillot, though I overestimated the PRL stat influence so sending Kemboi here was probably a mistake. Still, with no risk of him taking the race lead hopefully he'll sprint on all 3 flat stages and get some points that way. |

Good start from Silvestre, I do not believe that he can reach the leadership in the next stages but still if he manages to win a few seconds we can dream of a good final classification

We really are trying our best to relegate this year

Big time from Guerao, that's a nice haul, will fo sho help us reach 20pprd and keep up the top 10 fight (maybe)
