Corsica International Preview
The Corsica International has been raced in the MG non-stop since 2011, making this it's special 10 year anniversary! The race itself will be run over the customary three stages. The first stage is a short flat stage with a few early bumps, meant for the sprinters. The seconds stage is a short Time Trial which should give an advantage to the Prologue specialists. The final stage is a moderate length and difficulty mountain which should ultimately decide the winner of the race.
Two-time former winner Rigoberto Uran, in 2016 and last year, is back and hoping to defend his crown. Time has however caught up to him and he lost some of his cutting edge in this off-season. No other past winner rides this time, so we'll either have a three time winner on our hands or a brand new name will grace the trophy of this race.
| MON | RES | REC | ACC | PRL | Tenorio | 84 | 76 | 79 | 67 | 79 | Pluchkin | 84 | 77 | 77 | 73 | 78 | Eastman | 82 | 75 | 76 | 69 | 73 | Uran | 81 | 80 | 75 | 70 | 77 | Monsalve | 81 | 80 | 77 | 73 | 72 | Henao Montoya | 81 | 78 | 75 | 72 | 70 | Oomen | 80 | 77 | 78 | 69 | 77 | Choi | 80 | 76 | 79 | 68 | 74 | Carthy | 81 | 76 | 78 | 69 | 65 | Intxausti | 80 | 75 | 72 | 67 | 75 | Nerz | 80 | 72 | 74 | 68 | 73 | Latour | 79 | 78 | 80 | 74 | 74 |
As mentioned earlier, defending champion Uran is back to defend his crown. He has great stats to still have a shot of defending his title, but realistically, he is perhaps more a podium contender this time than a race winner.
At first glance, this looks to be a race that will be fought out between the two heavy-weights of PCT climbing, Pluchkin and Tenorio. The two riders are very evenly matched but Tenorio's better ability against the clock gives him a slight edge over his opponent.
Along with Uran, Eastman looks to be the closest competition to the above mentioned duo. He is stronger than Uran in climbing ability but a little ways off against the clock.
Monsalve looks to be another strong challenger for the podium, with his strong climbing and excellent backup stats. Like Eastman, he too is a little bit weaker than the others mentioned so far against the clock.
Henao Montoya is another rider who'll want to turn the clock back and pull put a better performance than what he has shown so far this season. Together with Oomen, who is weaker on the climbs but better against the clock, they form a duo who will be aiming for a Top 5 finish at least.
Choi, Carthy and Intxausti are very similar overall with the Carthy being the better climber but somewhat weaker than the others against the clock as compared to the other two.
Nerz and Latour are the final names on the favourites list and they will be targeting a Top 10 finish as a realistic result. They are both weaker climbers than the other favourites, and only moderately good against the clock. Latour's support stats are impressive though.
| MON | RES | REC | ACC | PRL | Diaz | 78 | 73 | 71 | 68 | 72 | Suaza | 78 | 73 | 62 | 76 | 71 | Bartl | 77 | 74 | 75 | 70 | 75 | Giogieri | 78 | 74 | 70 | 67 | 67 | Stancu | 78 | 74 | 73 | 71 | 66 | Kiserlovski | 78 | 72 | 69 | 63 | 69 |
A short outsiders' list with two leaders and four super-domestiques mixed in. Diaz and Giogieri will lead the cause for their respective teams. Bartl's good Prologue capability could help him out here.
| FLA | RES | SPR | ACC | Guarnieri | 75 | 75 | 81 | 80 | Ciolek | 73 | 66 | 81 | 76 | Kemboi | 78 | 77 | 80 | 80 | Bonifazio | 79 | 75 | 80 | 80 | Van Asbroeck | 75 | 72 | 80 | 78 | Silvestre | 78 | 71 | 80 | 81 | Haller | 72 | 71 | 80 | 79 | Boeckmans | 72 | 70 | 80 | 82 | Guardini | 72 | 69 | 80 | 82 | Drapac | 71 | 65 | 80 | 79 | Mohs | 72 | 59 | 80 | 77 | Perera | 71 | 73 | 79 | 80 | Lutsyshyn | 70 | 73 | 79 | 80 | Lander | 77 | 72 | 79 | 77 | Kalaba | 74 | 72 | 79 | 79 |
Guarnieri has had a fantastic start to the season and will look to continue the same in this race. With the leader's jersey up for grabs, winning Stage 1 is extra incentive for everyone. Together with Ciolek, they are the fastest riders in the race, but the former has significantly better support stats.
Kemboi and Bonifazio are excellent sprinters for the opening stage, with their combination of speed and support stats. Van Asbroeck versus Bonifazio could be an interesting battle between the former teammates as well. Not much seperates the two in terms of ability.
Silvestre, Haller, Boeckmans and Guardini are all very similar and it is very difficult to call who might get the edge over the others on a given day.
Drapac, Mohs, Perera. Luysyshyn, Lander and Kalaba are the other top sprinters in the startlist.
| FLA | MON | PRL | Zmorka | 74 | 61 | 82 | Tenorio | 68 | 84 | 79 | Kemboi | 78 | 60 | 81 | Paillot | 70 | 70 | 80 | Pluchkin | 73 | 84 | 78 | Cataford | 74 | 72 | 79 | Howson | 71 | 59 | 80 | Van Aert | 75 | 63 | 79 | Uran | 71 | 81 | 77 | Viennet | 72 | 54 | 80 | Oomen | 71 | 80 | 77 | Janse van Rensburg | 70 | 69 | 78 | Soler | 69 | 76 | 77 | Kalaba | 74 | 65 | 78 | Haga | 70 | 75 | 77 | Mottin | 69 | 58 | 79 |
Zmorka is the best Prologue rider in the race and is top favourite to win Stage 2.
Tenorio and Pluchkin are both up there in terms of the best rider for this stage and their battle will start from Stage 2 itself. Uran and Oomen are the other GC contenders on this list.
Kemboi, Silvestre and Kalaba are the best Prologue riders among the sprinters, and so they coukd be the ones taking over the GC lead after Stage 2, depending on what happens on Stage 1.
Given that the stage is slightly uphill for the final couple of kilometers, the likes of Paillot and Cataford are strong contenders for the win.

Maybe wasn't the best idea to have such squad. But then again Preidler is terrible TT rider so wouldn't have made sense.

White jersey the goals here, any points from Bonifazio and Van Aert would be nice. Great preview again!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

This is surely our worst team of all season. No Kudus, rest of cliimbers are in Pologne, so we are left with fillers and Zmorka for the stage win in the TT, but of course Kemboi will win it because his team can't stop winning

Glad to be out of the GC fight with both Tenorio and Pluchkin here. Howson and Ciolek are our cards, so yeah a stage top5/10 would already be good/decent.
Thanks for the preview Abi!

When this race was C1 the big stars usually avoided it. Now Uran has some big fishes to fight against, and after a decline an almost guaranteed podium is definitely not guaranteed now.

Our only real chance of decent scoring here is for Boeckmans to upset the odds and get a win on stage 1.
Thanks for the preview Abhi

Nice preview Abhi.
Looking for a top 10 and top 20 to keep the points rolling in for Kraftwerk's relegation battle.

Honestly not sure what to expect here, but I wouldn't be surprised if Diaz does nothing and we have a 0 pointer.

Would be a good time for Tenorio to get his first win of the season.

Tough field as expected. I´m hoping to sneak to TOP10 with Latour somehow, Soler might collect few points as well. Viennet could finally stop underperforming and show his real skills against the clock and TvA has chance to deliver in the opener. A lot of expectations (or wishes), hopefully reality won´t be miles away from that

Well that's our race pretty much done and dusted
I didn't expect for us to be the team forming the train. If you can call a one man leadout a train anyway

By this point as much as I celebrate Kemboi winning, part of me is getting very worried about his wage demands next season |

The good thing is Bonifazio finaly shows up, the bad thing is the difference in points between Kemboi and him will be huge.

I was looking for Kalaba all over the place but apparently he isn't wearing the Minion NC but a generic NC. In any case, fifth is a great result. Also nice to see young Champoussin's first trip to the podium by collecting the mountains jersey, albeit in a tie

Congrats to jph and to Salem Payhimboi
Another lame sprint from Ciolek in a 2nd-tier field. I guess that's what I brought him in for

7th and 5th in the first two stages isn't all that bad in a race where we didn't send a world beater team. Unfortunately I don't expect much from Panayotov in the next stage, but then again if the last stage of Vuelta a Colombia thought me anything is that anything is possible.
Congrats to Zmorka and congrats to Abhi for the report (PS: Abhi, I'll need an advice for what to do with Preidler in CT )

Finally Zmorka beating Kemboi in a prologue this season. Really important, and great to get the leader jersey with Kemboi's collapse. Tomorrow we won't be any factor, so getting around 30 points from this stage was important for the race to not be a total waste
