No cyclocross topic yet, but Pidcock just destroyed Mathieu in Gavere. What a race!
Also, someone make a cyclocross topic please.
Here it is.
Let the Pidcock, VDP, WVA show start |

Thanks!
So a quick recap, the first races of the season went to the "real" cyclocross riders, Yserbyt, Aerts, Sweeck and Vanthourenhout. Van Aert got a few podiums when he returned, but he was hurt a lot by his bad starting postion, as he didn't ride much last year due to his injury. Mathieu immediatly won at his return, but then got beaten by Pidcock.
Tomorrow will be the first time Wout and Mathieu meet since the epic Ronde Van Vlaanderen, but my money is still on Pidcock.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

haven't seen races with WVA so far, do you think he can be a real contender between MVDP and Pidcock?

Hard to tell, you can see a full road season is hurting him. His technique isn't perfect yet (but he never was on the same level as Mathieu anyway), and he can't make the 1 hour peek performances like he used to yet. But given time, I think he can get back to his old level.
He should also slowly get better starting positions so he has to do less and less in the first rounds.

Well, WVA came close today in Namuur. Obvious podium is obvious. VdP, WVA, Pidcock. |

Yes, another great race. Pidock really strong, WVA brought him back and Mathieu won in the end. So WVA is definitely still a contender.

This is amazing how great Matthiew and Wout are.
When they are back at cyclocross season..cocky Iserbit (unlucky this year), Aerta can stand back. Because fathers are back and will collect..this year we can add Pidcock in that list. When he has good day..he is unstoppable. |

It's really amazing how both destroy all the competition. In a way it's kinda sad for guys like Aerts and Iserbyt, you train all year for this and you get easily beaten by two people who need a hobby to get through the winter (ok, that's too much, but still).
I also feel Wout is much closer to Mathieu's level than the past two years.

Indeed Matthew is not dominating as past two years.
Now depends on track , conditions, little luck (flat tyre, bad bike change) to beat one another.
I also like and happy how Michael Vanthourenhout is riding this year. Has been always very likeable rider. |

One of the better races this year in the great Druivencross. I still think Mathieu is the favourite for the World Championship next week, but Wout is going to be close.
Unfortunately Covid concerns already canceled the junior events and it is still not sure if the main events can happen

Hopefully it can happen, would want to see another VdP/WVA duel before their road season eventually starts. I am curious to see if they will feel fatigued later on the season (if no changes are made to the calendar). |

Kicking of with the U23 lads in an hour, it will be hard to beat Ryan Kamp, he's been really good this season.

Something about this course really doesn't make sense to me. |

Maybe too much sand?
Ronhaar really strong, he deserved it.

I am watching the Elite Women race and I am really enjoying the course, to be honest.

There something about that shoreline sector that I don't like. Both races have been very fun too watch though, incredible consistency from Ronhaar. |

The sand sector is original, to say the least, maybe amusing. Still some entertaining racing so far, really glad this went ahead. |
