A slight downgrade in classification for the lumpy sprinters classic in Portugal as now a HC race. The course however should remain one of the most exciting on the tour as the sprint finish is far from a certainty. The 205km loop will give the spectators plenty to cheer for and strong potential for unexpected results.
The course starts out fairly simple, a generally flat first third for the riders to prepare. The latter two thirds however start to get hilly, with plenty of ups and downs for the riders to deal with and potential for the stronger riders to really make a difficult day for the sprinters, if not spoil it entirely.
We will have to look at three different types of riders for this race, the first and simplest will be the sprinters who need to be fast, and ideally some ability on both the flats and hills.
| | | | | | | | Rider | SP | FL | HL | Rider | SP | FL | HL | Degenkolb | 84 | 76 | 69 | Manninen | 80 | 74 | 66 | Boeckmans | 81 | 73 | 68 | Modolo | 78 | 74 | 73 | Silvestre | 80 | 78 | 67 | Enger | 81 | 73 | 69 | Saber | 81 | 75 | 68 | Van Asbroeck | 80 | 75 | 71 | Houle | 79 | 78 | 75 | Haller | 80 | 72 | 65 |
When it comes to sheer sprinting power no one else compares to Degenkolb in this field, he is by far the fastest rider. He also is solid on the flats, an isn't awful over the short climbs. Should be an outright favorite to win this race.
Behind him are a smattering of similar riders with a good sprint, good on the flats, and at least functional on the hills, the best of these is probably Silvestre or Saber. Boeckmans boasts a terrific acceleration which may help him in the finish if he can stay in a good position.
Lastly in this group you see a more all-round rider in Houle who has a good sprint, and excells on the flat and hills compared to some of the others.
The second group to look at is the fighters and punchuers, both have a certain chance to disrupt the flow of the race, if not outright win the race with a gap over the field. Ability on the Flat and Hills as well as a fighting spirit willing to take the chance are the keys here.
| | | | | | | | Rider | FL | HL | FG | Rider | FL | HL | FG | Waeytens | 70 | 80 | 76 | Summerhill | 78 | 73 | 81 | Dowsett | 70 | 80 | 75 | Arashiro | 80 | 64 | 78 | Bellis | 75 | 78 | 77 | Feng | 78 | 73 | 74 | Dyrnes | 68 | 78 | 78 | Mundle | 79 | 65 | 80 | Caruso | 68 | 78 | 75 | Gallopin | 75 | 74 | 80 |
We really see some mixed qualities come in this group, a pair of very good puncheurs in Waeytens and Dowsett are guys that could cause a serious problem if they decide to go on one of the climbs. Bellis might be even scarier for the field as he can go with them, and then has the power on the flats to keep a gap.
On the other side we see Summerhill or Arashiro who can be terrific on the flat roads and really might be looking to attack late in the race. Feng and Gallopin are a bit more well rounded and could look to do something late on as well.

Win goal here, which could've worked with PCM15, but the MO will kill Van Asbroeck.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Kreder will like this profile, but our best chance of winning will probably be through a late attack from Gallopin or van der Haar.
Looking forward to the report!

I sent all my sprinters to support Ciolek in Veenendaal, which in hindsight is probably a mistake. I could've sent Mezgec here, since he's not been good enough as a leadout for Ciolek and has at least a decent hill stat.
Maybe Pibernik can score the odd point, but otherwise I'm clutching at straws
Thanks for the preview Kentaurus

I'm hoping Saber can live up to his sprinting potential. Given how the season's gone, I wouldn't be surprised if a late attack of 4-6 do get away, and Saber's left battling for 7th from the sprint finish. As you can see, very positive vibes in the Philips camp these days

Truly hope Boeckmans can to well here but slightly worried that the profile is to hard for a mass sprint or to hard for Boeckmans low MO. Would like to see Kadri
in the breakaway to have another horse in the race.

Kuboki or Arashiro will have to get us a result here. Not much expectations however.

Decided to leave our leaders home for this one. Hoping for a breakaway or a lucky result with Bouglas.
Good luck guys!

This will be an interesting race I feel. I think that we have two very good options in Enger and Bellis, but who knows what will happen? I'm hoping for a top 5 result, I think in this field its entirely possible.

This might suit Kreder but not sure how it will play out in PCM18?
Thanks for the preview Kent.

Debesay, where has that been all season? I thought (against all expectations) he may have just been bad in PCM18, but at least if he's not on his preferred terrain he can ride like the beast he is! Awesome ride 2nd is a good result from us here and a great one for him, he played it well but Bellis is too good from that situation. Add in Houle in a (dissapointing) 15th and it's another solid race for us. If Ukraine goes solidly too then that's three in a row and a bit of momentum to our survival race. Come on Xero!
Thanks for the report Kent

Win goal not achieved, but good to see Cerny of all people finaly show of what he can do with those stats. If he payed more attention and joined the break immediatly, he might have had more energy left in the end.
Van Asbroeck did better than expected, but wasn't going to win anyway so yeah, some nice extra ranking points. Same for Waeytens and Moscon. If we didn't have to win this race, I'd call this a success.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

A bit dissapointing to see Pibernik finish 31st just one place away from scoring some points
On the other hand I'm happy we were able to animate the race with Penko and Setiawa in the break. Both still finishing in the 2nd group
Congrats to ryant, well deserved victory by Bellis

Good race from Gallopin, but poor tactics in the final kilometers. Either way very happy with 5th, and van der Haar in 18th is also good. A bit surprised Kreder couldn't stay with the other sprinters.
Congrats to ryant and thanks for the report!

Congrats to ryant and thanks for a great report.
As suspected hilly sprinter Kreder was Kraftwerk's best placed finisher but he only managed 17th.

This is a good result!!! First win this season I think and what a good one it was!
We followed the right move and it paid off, Enger in 14th gives us a little more points on top which we really needed tbh, relegation shouldn't be a fear now but I hope we can move comfortably in the mid table.
