The peloton travel back to Singapore and Malaysia for the second running of the Jelajah SKL after a successful event last year. On that occasion, it was Anwar Aziz edged out Bilbao on a count-back in the GC, despite the latter actually winning Stage 2. The defending has not returned, with his team promoted to PT. Bilbao, however, is back, and looking to go one better than last year.
The course consists of a Prologue and a Epilogue, with a flat stage and a hilly stage sandwiched between them. If last year's indication is anything to go by, Stage 3 should prove to be the decisive stage. The Prologue specialists will be hoping to keep things together on stage 3, to allow them a chance to stay in contention in the GC. The sprinters have Stage 2 to target, but it looks like a long-shot for them to challenge in the GC, unless they can hang on to the bunch in the hills.

With his strong combination of puncher abilities and TT skills, Ion Izagirre starts the race as top favourite among the bookies. He will target three stages in which to make a mark, with the short time-trials giving a perfect opportunity to pull ahead of his rival punchers.
Kinoshita is the best puncher in the race, and his strong backups should be an important asset in this race. He gives up significant ground to Izagirre against the clock. However, the TTs are very short, and on a good day, Kinoshita has been known to blow away the competition on the hills.
Vakoc is similar to Kinoshita, but with some short-comings in all major capabilities. He too is a rider who'll be looking to make an impact on the hills and look towards damage control in the TTs. More of the same from Schreurs as well, who is among the Top 4 punchers in the race.
Slagter and Kratochvila are more rounded climbers, and will be more interested in setting a hard pace over a longer distance than getting into a slug-fest with the punchers on shorter climbs.
Di Maggio, on paper, is among the top 2 punchers in the race, but his support stats leave some doubts as to his chances to challenge for a win in this race. As such, it is probably more likely that he will be challenging for a Top 5 place instead. However, if the hilly stage 3 is ridden aggressively by the peloton, it could play into his hands.
Juul-Jensen is always prone to the occasional over-performance and will be hoping to use his massive acceleration to ride away from his rivals on the climbs.
Bazhkou is the only favourite, other than Izagirre, who can hope to fall back on their TT skills to try to gain positions. His puncher skills aren't the best, but his losses can be made up against the clock. It will be interesting to see what kind of role the Xero team management give to Dyrnes, given how well this course seems to treat his teammate.
Siskevicius is very similar to Dyrnes, but will have a leader role in his team for sure.
| MON | HIL | STA | RES | REC | SPR | ACC | PRL | Serry | 75 | 78 | 71 | 70 | 69 | 62 | 69 | 64 | Gallopin | 71 | 74 | 79 | 78 | 74 | 70 | 73 | 74 | Navardauskas | 60 | 75 | 74 | 74 | 76 | 75 | 70 | 77 | Froome | 67 | 79 | 72 | 68 | 67 | 51 | 70 | 64 | Bilbao | 67 | 79 | 77 | 71 | 71 | 71 | 75 | 61 | Barbin | 68 | 78 | 75 | 73 | 70 | 71 | 76 | 63 | Eyob | 76 | 76 | 74 | 69 | 73 | 62 | 66 | 66 | Paulus | 74 | 77 | 71 | 68 | 73 | 62 | 71 | 64 | Teklit | 70 | 77 | 75 | 72 | 70 | 64 | 70 | 64 |
Some of the names on this list can count themselves unlucky to be here. None more so than last year's runner-up Bilbao. It remains to be seen whether the race plays out like last season, where an attack got away on Stage 3, to give Bilbao the win and eventual 2nd place in the GC.
Other riders to note in this group is Navardauskas, who has a good combination of puncher, sprint and Prologue skills to tackle this course. He finished 7th last season and will be hoping to equal or improve on it this time around.
| MON | HIL | RES | ACC | PRL | Kinoshita | 72 | 82 | 77 | 77 | 66 | Di Maggio | 65 | 82 | 68 | 75 | 62 | Izagirre | 74 | 81 | 72 | 64 | 77 | Schreurs | 69 | 81 | 72 | 74 | 66 | Vakoc | 71 | 80 | 71 | 74 | 69 | Slagter | 78 | 79 | 73 | 71 | 66 | Bilbao | 67 | 79 | 71 | 75 | 61 | Froome | 67 | 79 | 68 | 70 | 64 | Juul-Jensen | 70 | 78 | 74 | 79 | 67 | Dyrnes | 72 | 78 | 73 | 77 | 66 | Barbin | 68 | 78 | 73 | 76 | 63 | Siskevicius | 73 | 78 | 72 | 75 | 65 | Serry | 75 | 78 | 70 | 69 | 64 |
Kinoshita and Di Maggio the best punchers in the race, but Kinoshita is by far the stronger overall rider.
Izagirre, Schreurs and Vakoc the next best bets for the hilly stage 3, with Slagter, Froome and Bilbao also capable of challenging for the win.
| HIL | PRL | Chavanne | 64 | 82 | Gretsch | 62 | 79 | Hofer | 65 | 78 | Balloni | 66 | 78 | Mullen | 70 | 78 | Kovalev | 55 | 77 | Steensen | 72 | 77 | Izagirre | 81 | 77 | Reus | 72 | 77 | Marchewka | 60 | 77 | Hussein | 64 | 77 | Navardauskas | 75 | 77 | Schomber | 57 | 77 |
Chavanne won both the TT stages last season, and is favourite to do so again this time. No real competition for the Sauber rider here.
Gretsch, Hofer, Balloni and Mullen are the ones likely to be fighting for the stage podium places on stages 1 and 4. Mullen should also be in the running for the U25 classification.
| FLA | SPR | ACC | PRL | Maksimov | 72 | 81 | 84 | 69 | Kragh Andersen | 77 | 80 | 77 | 75 | Krieger | 71 | 79 | 79 | 55 | Houle | 78 | 79 | 78 | 69 | Hayakawa | 73 | 79 | 79 | 50 | Suryadi | 71 | 79 | 76 | 64 | Awang | 64 | 79 | 83 | 70 | Kreder | 73 | 78 | 80 | 64 | Boev | 72 | 78 | 78 | 71 | Jones | 72 | 78 | 78 | 65 | Porsev | 73 | 78 | 78 | 68 |
Maksimov is the fastest sprint in the race and with his acceleration to boot, he will be hard to beat in a straight line in this startlist. However, Stage 2 has the added hurdle of an unclassified hill just before the finish, which could push the needle towards sprinters, who are more comfortable over climbs. Kragh Andersen and Houle probably become more of a favourite for the win on Stage 2. Krieger has been in superb form this season, and will be hoping to continue the same.

Apologies in advance to certain teams and riders as I noticed that some riders had incorrect flags too late. I had not used the corrected DB which was shared before this race was run. I have corrected it for future races.

Hey, A wild Slagter appeared, his first proper appearance after he accidentally found himself in a flat classic whilst on our Aussie training camp.
Hopefully he can get a good GC place in what is a competitive debut for him.
And obviously I want Gabby to repeat last seasons result here as he clearly has the ability to do so.

C'mon Bilbao time to finally do something!
I'll also be cheering for our amateur team VIP Mobile. Steal all the points you can lads, just not Swisslion's

Sent my best TT'ers and hoping for the best. Pretty low expectations to be honest, but Krieger has so been able to do a lot, so maybe he will pull off an upset in the sprint, but it doesn't suit him terribly well.

Obviously, I´m hoping for the opposite. Looking forward (and am afraid at the same time) to race outcome.

We just threw a lot of riders in and are hoping for stage and GC success. Please let it happen!

Decent start.
With those few hills near to end, I´m curious if next stage will really suit to sprinters.

If Kinoshita can move up the GC in the next two stages he'll hopefully get a boost for the final TT. Even 40 seconds isn't too much to accomplish for him, but it depends how the racing goes.

Ok, but that gap to Slagter shouldn't have been allowed to open, could be very annoying

Houle was the perfect rider for that stage, but so was Slagter...
The latter surely having a gap that allows him to react tomorrow, while it'll be interesting to see if the former can replicate this on a harder, but possibly not too hard stage to put his manager up there out of misery somewhat.

How in the actually hell did AKA survive that hill, but Juul-Jensen did not and lost over a minute. HOW? Please explain it to me Cyanide, I'm waiting.
AKA obviously couldn't sprint though, so wasted days for him. I guess my hopes are with Steensen now? ffs

Schreurs losing time to the other favorites is not ideal. Otherwise a good stage for us with three riders inside the top 10. Gallopin our best GC bet now.
