Circulo de Juarez
The CT is heading for Mexico, where the Circulo de Juarez is celebrating it's 5th anniversary since it's inaugaral edition back in 2014. Five days of flat roads with only minor difficulties throughout the route. A classical sprinters' stage race and obviously quite a huge event for the fast men in the division.
Past race winners are Jaime Alberto Castaneda (2017 with one stage win), Ricki Nelson (2016 with two stage wins), Anthony Lavoine (2015 with two stage wins) and Michael Matthews (2014 with one stage win). Winning a stage and performing consistently will be the key for the overall victory and there's five days you need to deliver.
The Startlist
The GC contenders Favorites | FL | RC | SP | AC | Outsiders | FL | RC | SP | AC | Guarnieri | 76 | 83 | 82 | 81 | Thorsen | 61 | 69 | 82 | 85 | Van Heerden | 73 | 78 | 82 | 73 | Modolo | 74 | 81 | 78 | 81 | Carsi | 70 | 73 | 80 | 82 | Korzh | 74 | 74 | 78 | 80 | Manninen | 74 | 77 | 80 | 80 | Liepins | 73 | 77 | 78 | 79 | Salleh | 70 | 77 | 80 | 80 | Manan | 68 | 77 | 78 | 78 | Keukeleire | 72 | 76 | 80 | 79 | Tewelde | 74 | 77 | 78 | 77 | Vanoverschelde | 72 | 77 | 80 | 75 | Kruopis | 73 | 75 | 78 | 77 | Rowe | 72 | 79 | 80 | 70 | Angarita | 72 | 75 | 78 | 77 | Hochmann | 70 | 73 | 79 | 80 | Krasnov | 72 | 75 | 78 | 77 | Von Hoff | 71 | 77 | 79 | 77 | Szalontay | 69 | 71 | 78 | 77 | Colbrelli | 74 | 76 | 79 | 75 | Corti | 72 | 77 | 78 | 76 | Vanderaerden | 72 | 78 | 79 | 75 | Keough | 72 | 76 | 78 | 75 |
Guarnieri must be considered the top favorite this year and it's pretty clear that he has the biggest pressure to deliver the GC victory and at least one stage as well. Amongst all sprinters in the CT, he comes with the best allround package - combining great skills on the flat with a superior speed, a great acceleration and an outstanding recovery, too.
The two other riders, who can match his top speed are Van Heerden and Thorsen: both come with at least one big weakness though. Van Heerden needs too long to reach his top speed and Thorsen.. well, he's not particularly known for his skills on road races in general. The short stages may suit him, however, and he finished 5th in the GC here back in 2016 (where he also took a stage). You can't count him off before the race has started!
Carsi/Von Hoff, Manninen, Salleh and Keukeleire as the next best sprinters then. Manninen as the most complete riders amongst those podium contenders, but given the profile of the stages, they all should be real threats for stage wins and a high GC result.
Vanoverschelde, Rowe, Colbrelli or Vanderaerden do lack the acceleration to be considered as true podium or Top-5 contenders.. Modolo as nother interesting sprinter, who may not like the flat roads as much as someone like Thorsen does though. If he's in the mix, his acceleration should help him to deliver results as well. Tewelde as the most interesting amateur then, probably with the goal to snatch a Top-10 stage result here and there. Just like Kruopis or Angarita.

Been looking forward to this race, as we'll probably finally get to see our train in action! Still lacking that stage/race win too, so hopefully we'll get that here. This race is quite frankly a must-win, as Guarnieri's race days probably would have been better spent in C1 with any other result.
Hopefully our team is strong enough to prevent any breakaways from going all the way, while still maintaining enough energy for a solid lead out.

Possibly the strongest sprint squad I couldve sent. The only question is whether Dzervus is gonna outperform Kruopis like he has done this season so far

I’m hoping my sprinting pair can do well here! Risking a lot having them both at the same race and spending the race days!! Hopefully they don’t disappoint!
Good luck everyone!

A boring month for me, very few race days.
But good luck to all, having riders here.

Time for Manninen to start performing. Really should at least sprint in this field

I know he hasn't raced much but I'm already bored by Guarnierieirneri winning Congrats Sykkel! A shame to see Thorsen fade, and a real embarrassment for the CT to see crappy sprinters like Van Heerden and Rowe doing so well Glad to see the former doing nicely in the CT though!

Ben King 5th? Angarita 8th?! Okay, they won't make fool of me again. In the next stages they won't be in top 15 for sure. |

We would need a miracle to leave from this race with a single point in our bag. |

Stealing some points! A pair for the polka dots, and one for the white jersey we will be wearing in stage 2. Good way to put on a display in our home race!

Really nice to finally get the first win!
Great way to start the race, though there's definitely a few things we can improve for the next stage, particularly with regards to the train. While Feillu did his job perfectly, Korzh seemed to struggle a bit as the final lead out man. Luckily Guarnieri accelerated fast enough to keep off the likes of Van Heerden.
Hopefully we can improve on that and defend the leaders jersey all the way to the last stage!

I was kinda hoping for a better start here but st least Von Hoff was able to get up there and contest the sprint!
I’m starting to regret sending both Carsi and Von Hoff...so far they can’t seen to work together. Let’s see how it pans out...
