Ayubowan! 2016
Ayubowan everyone, from Ayubowan! Sri Lanka's only professional cycling team is returning for the 2016 season, aiming to bounce straight back following relegation to the PCT. After last season's great step forward for Sri Lankan cycling with the presence of six Sri Lankan riders in the PT, including Asela Sisira - who rode in two Grand Tours, almost taking the lead of the KoM jersey in the Giro - the aim is to consolidate on that progress with more Sri Lankan riders, and hopefully a win or two for them. Alongside them, French and - in a weakening of our nationality focus - British riders will hopefully provide the firepower needed for promotion back to the PT, as well as assisting our Sri Lankans with their development.
Our sponsors remain unchanged for the first time in the history of the team - this our 5th season. A group of Sri Lankan companies joining together give us the Ayubowan name and our equipment sponsors give the French focus. Pernod Ricard also play a role in our French focus, but it is because of their desire to promote their brand overseas that Britain comes into out focus countries once again - those with long memories will remember that this team started out in 2012 as Team Dyson after all.
We retain our previous two bases for the upcoming season - our traditional Evian base in France for during the European season, and our base in Kandy for during the winter and administrative tasks during the season. The base in Kandy also has special significance this season, with a hilly HC race taking place just down the road, which will definitely be one of our biggest goals this season.
Thanks to aidanvn13 for a great job once again. Like Pernod Ricard's finest wine, his work gets better over time!

Good luck wrecking the PCT in 2016 mate! You have the base for that already, so looking forward to how you can shape your team during the transfers.

Renewals and Transfer Availability
Rider | Wage | Transfer Availability | Thibaut Pinot | 350,000 | Unlikely | Cyril Gautier | 300,000 | Unlikely | Romain Vanderbiest | 250,000 | Possible | Blel Kadri | 125,000 | Possible | Adrien Petit | 125,000 | Unlikely | Anthony Roux | 125,000 | Possible | Kenny Elissonde | 100,000 | Possible | Damien Gaudin | 100,000 | Possible | Yannick Martinez | 100,000 | For Sale | Ludovic Bret | 65,000 | For Sale | Alexis Vuillermoz | 65,000 | Possible | Maxime Bouet | 50,000 | Possible | Christopher De Souza | 50,000 | For Sale | Nidush Nirantha Fernando | 50,000 | Unavailable | Johan Le Bon | 50,000 | For Sale | Tushantha Rajapakshage | 50,000 | Unavailable | Asela Sisira | 50,000 | Unavailable | Alexis Dulin | 0 | Released | Dane Steve Nugara | 0 | Released | Ronan Racault | 0 | Released | Ishan Sandakelum | 0 | Released | Laxmen Wijerathna | 0 | Released |
The categories can be summed up as follows:
Unavailable means that the rider will not be leaving, no matter what.
Unlikely means that the rider won't leave, unless a superior replacement can be found - and we feel that is unlikely to happen.
Possible means that the rider is likely to be able to leave, but that we need to find a replacement first - of which we are confident.
For Sale means that we are actively hoping to sell the rider, no matter what.
Released means the rider is now a Free Agent.
Summary
Overall we are reasonably happy with renewals. All of our riders except Gautier, Bret and Vuillermoz accepted our first offers - and we feel that even they are not overpaid, considering their previous wages. There was a slight disappointment that we were not able to get Pinot and Gautier's wages down slightly more following relegation, but we knew it would be difficult after their training last season, and they still represent good value at this level. The riders that were released met that fate as we felt there were better options available, especially with regards to the Sri Lankans. |

A look back to 2012...
Team Dyson
11th in Continental Division 2
Simon Gaywood | Shaun Higgerson | Charles Wegelius | Tijs Crombez | Ed Clancy | Cyril Lemoine | Tom Southam | Daniel Eliad | Matthew Gee | Ignacio Sarabia | Rhys Lloyd | Marco Brus | Kieran Page | Ken Sebastian Vassdal |
Simon Gaywood was our big transfer target, and he took the first win for Team Dyson on Stage 6 of the Tour de San Juan after an underwhelming season up to that point.
We signed the veteran climber Charles Wegelius to provide leadership and mentor our younger riders, and he rewarded our faith in him with a great win from a solo break on Stage 5 of the Vuelta a Asturias - earning him an invite with the combined D2 team to the Tour of Colorado and a Top 10 on GC.
Time Trials were our main strength on paper, and on Stage 2 of the Settimana Coppi e Bartali our TTT squad took a fantastic victory, and completed our goal of a stage win there.
Gaywood added another win to this collection on Stage 6 of the Tour of the Lowveld, on the kind of parcours we expected him to excel - flat, but with hills on route - in a strong finish to an otherwise disappointing season for him.
Shaun Higgerson was another key signing for us, as the best Time Trialist in the division on paper. He disappointed all season long, but was on fire in the Tour of Utah, winning the Stage 1 TT...
...and the Stage 4 TT, on the way to our one and Points classification win of the season.

Today has seen six young Sri Lankan talents sign on the dotted line here at Ayubowan HQ in Kandy, and all for the minimum wage of 50,000. Below are their current stats and XP levels, as well as how they will look when they are maxed out - although their OVL and RDs don't reflect that currently.

Overnight Ian Bibby joined us from Eritel-Sonatrach for 1,160,000 - completing our first trade of the period. Bibby is an exciting rider to have signed due to his all round abilities and we are delighted to have brought him on board. He'll lead the team in stage races with TTs, as well as being called upon to support our leaders in the hills and the mountains when necessary. We'd like to thank his former manager SN for making this deal possible, and we are happy to finally have a British rider on board for the first time since 2012!

Nice to see Bibby with a chance to have a key role, races like Tour of Japan looks like races Bibby can actually win, so hopefully he will do so

Today has seen another three riders arrive at Ayubowan! HQ and sign contracts. Firstly, in addition to the six Sri Lankans signed yesterday, another two have arrived in young climbing talents Suranga Ranaweera and Sanju Dimantha Sembukutti. Ranaweera became our most expensive signing from free agency to date, with a wage of 80k - while Sembukutti is on a 50k wage.
In addition, today also saw the arrival of British sprinter Chris Opie from Eddie Stobart. The deal to sign him was a straight swap for Yannick Martinez, and with a wage of only 110k we feel it is a good deal for us. He can contribute straightaway, but he will also be able to improve some more this season or next. Current and maxed stats are below.

Today had already been a successful day on the transfer front for us, but this evening we also received confirmation that Jonathan Bellis has joined us from RBC Pro Cycling, in a deal which involved 900k and Kenny Elissonde going in the other direction. While Bellis has proven rather costly to acquire, we believe he will be worth it when looking at his previous results in the PCT - especially in the races we have selected as our goals such as the Clasica San Sebastian, the Japan Cup and Strade Bianche.

Today has seen further transfer activity for Ayubowan! with two more riders joining from free agency - Adam Yates and Christophe Laporte. Yates will join our climbing and hills squad in a support role for this season, before becoming a stage race leader when maxed out. Laporte on the other hand will offer all around support with his abilities in the hills, as well as on the cobbles and his decent sprint. We're hopeful that these will not be our last signings, but we can't say that for certain currently - just keep an eye out here for the latest news!
