Rubens Database 2008
Base: a combination of PCM Daily 2015 DB for PCM 2015 and ASO DB 2008 - PCM 08 db by OlegTinkoff. I converted the stuff I needed for a base 2008 DB.
In the db so far:
*18 PT teams (all)
*22 PCT teams (all)
*21 CT teams
*shirts and mini-shirts for these teams, converted from PCM 2008 ASO DB
*all riders + stats (+adjustments with the knowledge we have now)
*all rider pictures, converted from PCM 2008 ASO DB
*most of the teams have correct bike manufacturers, some others need to be added in the DB still (like Gazelle and Batavus)
*Palmares reverted to end 2007, everything newer has been wiped.
What I still want to be done, and hopefully someone can help with....
*2008 profiles for the Tour, Giro and Vuelta. For now calender restructuring is not on the planning, because I simply do not have the time needed to do this.
*Better, HD graphics for shirts, it's not ideal to convert PCM 08 graphics obviously. But I'm not a graphic artist.
*Adding some U23 teams like Rabobank Continental etc.
*Adding at least 20 more continental teams to fill up the races better. Especially some from Asia, South America and England. Ideally I'd fill it up to 90 teams. But again, I'd need help with graphics!
*World Tour -> Pro Tour. With change in points count
*Riders still need the correct regions they are from. This will be mammoth job because converting from PCM 08 meant no regions, just countries. Now many riders have the wrong region.
Which brings me to...
Overall DB completion: 50%-ish. Obviously, if I had the time to do calender it would be more like 10%
Anyway, some screens to wet your appetite or get anyone to help me:

Kittel is horribly overrated, 74 sprint skill in 2008? |

Is there a chance to get a shirt pack only from your DB |

The thing is, he was a good time trialler at the youth categories. So you have to give him around 70 TT/Prologue.
If you give him lower, or around the same sprint stats, he might develop in a time trial specialist. Ofcourse, Kittel is no longer that (although he probably could still do a decent one if he wanted to). So PCM forces you to give him a bit higher sprint stat, so he at least develops into a sprinter.
Many people forget there is a reason why this needs to be done. For the same reason Wiggins has 75 climbing in the DB, while in real life he climbed like shit in 2008. He only started climbing well from 2009. But if I give him 59 climbing, he would never win the tour obviously.
Hope you understand why choices like this are made now. |

Yeah it's been a while... in the past I did stats for several db makers (inlcuding Daily). And before that I did complete projects (mostly with Camerluca from focus). And one historic DB (2000DB for PCM 06)... made from scratch. It's been a while since I had the time and motivation to do something.
Still, when i'll have to work again next week time will be sparse. So I'll have to make good use of it |

I created the 2008 Tour once.
Unfortunately all stages without narrow roads got deleted.
But I still have the narrow road files. So whenever I find time, I will surely fix this to make it non narrow again. |

No, not yet at least. ASO DB didn't have him, probably because he was on contract until march and already out by the time PCM got released.
You raise a good point though, I might add him in. All Gerolsteiner dopers are still in also. I might add Ricco back to Saunier Duval as well. We'll see |

But isn't the idea of a historic DB to rewrite history? Not emulate it? In 2008 you didn't know that Wiggins would refocus into a stage racer, or that Kittel would become a supersprinter instead of a great time trialist?

It is and it isn't. I like to think of people, like myself, who like to play long careers, and I, personally, would like to prefer many riders going into the direction they are supposed to go.
With a mix of riders who were destined for greatness and I kept their high potentials, even if they didn't go the way they planned after 2008 (f.ex dopers like Kohl, Dekker but also young greats like Hagen who never realised full potential).
It's all personal preference, and it's not up for discussion, I do it my way. |
