Spoiler Firstly, this is not a copy of Mre's The Comeback. Second time i've said that but you should spot what i'm talking about quite quickly, but also easily spot why this is obviously very very different.
Again, like with the 3rd Karl Hammarling, it's not exactly a racing focused story. I like developing characters and worlds and will spend time in that side of the story without much PCM action. Unlike that 3rd Karl though there will be more standard PCM reports a bit of the way in, so stick around for those to begin.
Finally, don't expect a fast pace. Aiming for 2-3 updates per week as a peak. For me this story is just a nice extra on the side of other things that i will write as and when i'm in the mood. I've got some stuff stacked up and have planned about 90% of the entire thing. You'll also notice significant layout similarities between this and Karl, because i like it and it works. Anyway...

YAAAAAAAAAAAAY! Wonder how this might go, should be interesting and fun to follow wherever you take it!
EDIT A: Is it women's racing?
EDIT B: Now you can be even more stealthy with links. When we talk about Lombardia: The [link]Autumn[/link] classic. Or a steam sale: [link]Autumn[/link] sale on now!

24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

@sutty - Ideally it should be better but i'll take just as good, but this time with an award win
Chapter 1: The Beginnings
I: Initial Exposure, Pt.1
Fair to say Football was the dominant force in town almost all year round these days. If people weren't going nuts for the Panthers they were talking about the NFL, probably the Cowboys or Texans. Except the last couple of years when all that is supposed to be over Football comes in new forms as the NBC crews move in to do their filming. This kicks everyone off about it in the months that should be quiet.
I mean there are places to get away from it, and just hiding out at friends houses is enough once the main seasons are done for. As a result i'd spend most days at either Laura or Cassies house. Unlike my home they had pools which was a nessesity even in April as temperatures were already pushing the 80's. We'd relax in the sun and waste the hours with idle talk or with essay work or exam revision.
School would kick in the back half of the month and drag us back to the world. The NBC crews would still be around filming here and there but this was like the 4th or 5th year they were here so we were pretty used to it by now. This one day we supposed to be doing our Cross Country training in the stadium stands but where kicked out for Football filming. I cut out to go to Laura's for a break.
Her mum welcomed me in and told me she was out back. As I made my way through I was distracted by her father watching TV. Now that must sound strange but what caught my attention was what was on the TV. I'm so used to blanking out Football, or Baseball or Basketball or whatever sport it was, i'm just not that into them. But this, this was new and different.

You know, I already like this better than Karl. No offence, but it's very refreshing to see through the eyes of a girl in a story on this site
Good start! |

100% agree with this. My thoughts pretty much exactly.

Good luck TMM! Always great to read a story that start off with "this is not a copy of Mre's The Comeback." Can't wait to see where you go with it.
EDIT: Autumn has the same birthday (Valentine's Day) as Zooey...
Illuminati confirmed.

@Mre - The birthday thing was a complete fluke, swear to god Otherwise it was copy&paste from Karl, even though there is almost no relation between Comeback and this
@DiCyc - Thanks

Chapter 1: The Beginnings
I: Initial Exposure, Pt.2
The camera peeled backwards showing off some rocky mountains and a group of people cycling up said mountains. This was just so alien! Yeah I could ride a bike but basically we'd just go to school or the shops or something and leave it at that. But these people were sweating and there was real exertion and effort going on. Honestly I had no idea what was going on as one rider would suddenly surge ahead and then be caught by the group.
Again and again it would happen. Eventually a figure in black would shoot ahead and almost like elastic snapping he was unleashed. The commentators were going nuts for it and kept up the high intensity chatter even though to my eyes nothing was happening. I must have zoned out watching for like 10 minutes when Laura jolted me back to the real world. The rest of the day was like any other spent by the pool doing school work. But I was ever so slightly elsewhere.

Girl interested in this. I want to marry her
This time I'm going try to keep up constantly and read everything. Was tougher to follow Karl because I fell behind every now and then.

@Ian - She's 15! That's disgusting dude
@sutty - Just tell youself she was amazing and that you are only very good
Chapter 1: The Beginnings
II: Expansion of Interest, Pt.1
Later that night back home I looked up what that was on the TV. I knew it was cycling but beyond that I was at a loss. Didn't take to long to find out it was the Tour of the Gila, a race in New Mexico. From there I found out who the guys in black were that kept getting the commentators so excited: Chris Horner, Levi Leipheimer and Lance Armstrong.
Now I knew the name Lance Armstrong. It was hard not to! Lance was probably the biggest sports personality in the US that wasn't part of the big 4 sports, and even he eclipsed most of those. I also found links to a Womens version of the race with a Kristin Armstrong. Tuned out she wasn't related to Lance, they just had the same name by coincidence.
