Difficulty: Hard as i found normal a bit too easy
Recently i got a phone call from Carlos Raúl Yepes Jiménez CEO of Bancolombia. He told me he is looking for a General Manager willing to work for peanuts. He wants to create a new Continental team with his limited budget. Well what can I say ... my words were like: Don't worry .. i am your man.
Now came the difficult part - for a team i needed riders of course. I have been talking literally with thousands of riders and finally there were even a few experienced drivers signing with us along with a good core of young promising riders as well.
This is our by far most famous rider. Jose Rujano from Venezuela at age 31 he still has a lot of power in him. His Palmares is longer than the road from here to the end of the world. We are very glad he is willing to lead our team
The 41 year old colombian Felix Cardenas is also well known and another leader of our team. Not the same quality as Rujano he brings a lot of experience in the team and is willing to lead the young ones to greatness.
We also got a decent sprinter in the russian Denis Galimzyanov (26). Not one to challenge the big guys but maybe able to get some good places in the lower quality races we will participate in.
Most promising young guns are: Eduardo Caceda, David Guevara and Silvia Rivas.
Here a little overview. The numbers are made up by our scouting and coaching staff, i do not know if they are to be trusted.

Very nice start, best of luck!

For the sponsor the most important races will be:
Circuit Cycliste Sarthe
Tro-Bro Léon
Tour Cycliste International du Huat Var-Matin
It is different from what i give out as main races
1) Vuelta a Colombia - of course our home race is most important
2) Vuelta al Tachira - Rujano shall be our man here
3) Tour de San Luis - the early stage race with qulity opponents
Let's hope for a good season |

The Vuelta al Tachira is our first race. The home of Rujano will see him as our leader even though others have better fitness.
Of course all our 4 venezuelean riders take part. The sprinter is not expected to see much action in this mountain race but young argentinian Rivas will use the race as preparation for his home race.
The first stage sees a hilly finish, but we do not expect our leader Rujano to attack here ... too many mountain finishes in this tour make time in this stage irrelevant, and the yellow jersey too early may be a burden. Not many good riders beside our team as expected, but a few worthy opponents take part Remy di Gregorio looks like one of the better guys.
Guama one of the better riders in the field did try an escape halfway through the race and held on barely at the end, also becaue we did not really press on. Rujano easily was able to stay in contact |

Stage 2 brought us a mass sprint as expected, unfortunately my Sprinter Rivas has lsot contact during the tiny hill ... disappointing. So i made his leadout Guevara sprint, of course he had no chance, but at least made the Top10.
Byron Guama once more won ... he timed to start early perfectly as he was almost caught by guys twice as fast as him but he had enough advantage.
Nothing important happened in the GC |

Stage 3 was pretty exciting .. two escapees who had 3:30 advantage 10 km to go when my puncheur Piero Huaman decided it was time to use his good daily form and he attacked
only few riders could follow him, but he did all the work till the finish line closing the gap to about 30 seconds. But Katyrin was able to hold on and clearly was the better one of the two up front

The last stage before the real mountains are waiting .. Huaman once again tried it a few km in front of the finish line. This time the peloton did not let him escape though and a sprint was the result with Julien El Fares being the best of the best.

The first mountain stage sees Rujano taking the yellow jersey. Di Gregorio and Brenes launched an early attack, Rujano followed slowly but none of the others could follow him. when they were exhausted about 3 km further he overtook them and Rujano just pressed on. A little too much as in the last 5 km he was burnt out.
Jose nevertheless won the stage with 1:43 in front of the rest. |

After 10 hard stages we were able to completly destroy our opponents. Rujano was without competition he was only really trying in 3 stages. Great success by our whole team especially Lieutenant Guevara who made the podium and won U25.

Our next race and season goal both for us and our sponsor is the Tour de San Luis in Argentina. Sponsors are asking for a Top3 finish of the tour. This won't be easy at all but with three mountain finishes it suits us good. We just have to hope not to lose much time in the Time Trial.
Winner of the Vuelta Tachira Rujano is standing ready, but i decided he will be the first helper in the beginning. Young Guevara after his solid riding in Venezuela will get the honor of being captain as long as he is not dropped from GC. Huaman is our main free element and might launch short attacks from time to time. Sprinter ist Rivas again in his home race.
The starting field is considerable better than in Venezuela, especially Team Sky brings a solid squad that could compete in most World tour races too. Orica and AG2R also have a good captain with Riblon and Weening who are both very good in the Time Trial. Those riders just have to be distanced in the mountains. |

The first stage is over and it has been decided as expected in a mass sprint. The breakaway of the day was caught with only 6 km to go. Ag2R has worked the whole day for Lloyd Mondory.
But Lloyd was not in the shape to win today. Orica Greenedge launched two sprinters with 1 km to go and they finished 1-2 just inches between them. Our Silvio Rivas was able to make the podium as 3rd with a very good daily form. He celebrates it like a win.
Mitchell Docker has been just a tiny bit faster than Simon Clarke as can be seen (or maybe not) in the photfinish
The italian champion Santaromita had no chance to make the podium today and he is very disappointed as we have heard from his interviews. Especially as he had only been 4th of his team (9th in stage though)

The second stage had a hard short last climb to the finish. Our duo Guevara/Rujano had the problem they were blocked by Niki Sorensen in the moment the big guys attacked
Here yu see Paulinho making his attack with Riblon, Weening, Henao pushing behind. Guevara trying to catch up but it was hopeless for our guys.
The last kilometres were the time for Sergio Henaos attack and noone could follow his powerful move. The race favourite was unstoppable.
Groups were forming behind Henao. But our riders spent too much energy too early and have difficulties in the last metres
And Sergio Luis Henao is able to win this stage cofortably. We achieved 9th and 10th which isn't too bad I guess. Still many stages left.

This should be a sprint finish again
But the bad news my sprinter lost contact when the peloton split. I have to take the guilt this time as i as General Manager did not pay attention to it and did not expect a split.
Docker demonstrates his power and is unchallenged for the sprint win in front of Mondory and Impey. Guevara finishes a strong 4th.

This is going to be a very hard stage. A steep mountain at the end. The favourites have to show what they are able to do.
The breakaway of the day was going away early. A large group of strong riders.
The climb starts and Riblon is the first to go away from the peloton. Only Henao can follow him. Guevara and Rujano still holding back - a mistake?
Only 5 kilometres to go and finally Rujano got the okay to take of and leave Guevara. And he came with great power.
Only three kilometres to go and Guevara is able to ride away from his group a little
Meanwhile the breakaway decided the stage with Godoy being the best in the spring

Rujano moving up the 3rd now and is 30 seconds in front of our leader Guevara. Guevara won a few seconds to Kennaugh for the U-25 shirt bit is still behind. Tomorrow is the Time Trial. That will make it clear who is our leader and if Guevara can catch Kennaugh maybe |

You've done well in your early season goals, hope Rujano can keep up the good work later on, a podium is a good possibility!
Good Luck!

Riblon made a great step to winning the tour, a lot can happen for the podium places though as it is very close there. Guevara who is on paper a better Time Trialist than Rujano has thrown away everything today now only 12th in the GC even Top 10 is not probable. Rujano needs a great day tomorrow in the last stage with mountain finish |

Today we have another steep but short final climb. We expect the tour do be finally decided today, though Riblon looks too strong for the rest.
The breakaway of the day has very strong riders today.
At the foot of the mountain, when Clarke attacked and Riblon countered Rujano ordered Guevara to follow
Soon Clarke regretted his attack and could not keep up. Guevara and Rujano chasing down Riblon, Kennaugh at their heels the others a few metres back
just two kilometres remaining, and Guevara is spent, meaning Rujano needs to do it alone. Clarke and Weening suffering from our tempo. Henao and Cataldo among others are a few meters back in the next group.
Deignan distanced everybody from the breakaway to win the stage solo. But where are the fighters for the podium of the race?
Here they are ... Riblon finishing 3rd right infront of a strong Rujano. Weening just a few metres back. Henao losing a lot of time today.

A great stage for us. It looks like Rujano can achieve a podium finish and Guevara might make the Top 10. In the Young riders classifications Guevara should finish 2nd behind Kennaugh.
One stage remaining, this looks more like a sprinter stage though. Docker will try to win the points classification as he is only a few points behind Riblon currently |

Today is the final stage of the tour. We will give everything to ensure the podium of Jose Rujano. The sprinters will try to make good results too if they get the opportunity.
We had once more a large breakaway consisting of rather good riders. The peloton did not give everything in the chase. The favourites watching if somebody is trying to launch an attack. When Rujano just held his nose in the wind Riblon imediatly drove after him by himself.
Byron Guama did hold on and demolished his partners in the breakaway during the last kilometres and won just a short distance in front of the peloton. You remember? It is not the first time he has done that. We should keep a close look on this rider from Ecuador he might be a good addition. Our sprinters did not have great form and so could not play an important part today finishing 15th and 18th respectivly

Riblon had a great tour also winning points and KOM trikot. Our young star Guevara finished 2nd in the yong riders calssement just beaten by Peter Kennaugh. With the 2nd place by Rujano who started out as helper this tour went amazingly good especially as he beat quite a few well known and good riders.
