Metinvest is an international vertically integrated mining and steel company owning 24 assets in Ukraine, Europe and the United States and managing each link of the production chain – iron ore and coal mining.
Metinvest CEO Ruslan Popov is a big cycling fan and his idea started this project.
The holding is ready to spend large funds if this idea will have expected results.
Dacia is a Romanian car manufacturer that takes its name from the historic region that constitutes much of present-day Romania. Now a subsidiary of the French car manufacturer Renault, the company was initially founded in 1966. It is Romania's largest exporter, constituting 7.9% of Romania's total exports in 2011. The Dacia manufacturing plant in Mioveni, ArgeÈ™ County is currently Europe's fifth biggest car manufacturing facility in terms of volume produced with a total of 412,718 units (cars and CKD kits) delivered in 2013.
Dacia joins Metinvest as the main co-sponsor prior to our PT debut and should help us even more to promote eastern european cycling on highest level of competition. Our rising star sprinter Eduard Grosu was one of the main reasons why Dacia felt attracted by our project. Welcome Dacia!
Harmony Gold mining - South Africa
Harmony Gold is the third largest gold mining company in South Africa, the 12th largest in the world (2009) and the 5th largest gold producer in the world. The company owns a number of mines including Elandskraal mine and Phakisa Mine.
Our South african sponsor was floding with joy after we managed to sign their home star in person of Nolan Hoffman. His stellar rersults in 2013 only assured Harmony, that they are cooperating with right team. As long as we will hold on our african star, they will support us greatly.
Gruppo Lucchini - Italy
Gruppo Lucchini is the third largest Italian steel group after Gruppo Riva and Techint, with a year production of 3.5 million tonnes. It is specialized in high quality long and special carbon steel products.
Our ever improving italian focus is pleasing music to the ears of this italian company. And since we plan to aquire more of the talented italians, there is no reason for them to leave the bandwagon.
Our only change from 2013 to 2014 was switch of the bike manufacturers. We are very happy to have secured contract with famous italian company Bianchi. Bianchi has long tradition of producing both beautiful and functional bikes for road cycling, so we hope for succesful cooperation. That proved to be the case in 2014 season, as we were more than happy with quality of bikes that we were provided with.
We were so amazed by our 2014 bike design, made by famous bike designer Fintas that we are ready to continue with it also in 2015 PT adventure.

Summary 2012 - standings, goals and results
The 2011/2012 season almost came to the end, actually only NCs are left to race this season, so it is time of reflection and looking back. We will bring news about important NCs, especially the one from Ukraine, in the separate report.
Also we want to let you know that our teams webmaster was fired, as he failed to inform about races from September and October, sorry for that.
1st | Het Nieuwsblad Cycling Team | 1824 | 2nd | American Express | 1565 | 3rd | Team Cativen | 1337 | 4th | Pivovarna Laško Cycling Team | 1258 | 5th | Samsung-Mol Cycling Team | 1162 | 6th | Alstom - Bic Pro Cycling | 1064 | 7th | Team Kingspan Continental | 957 | 8th | Team Adecco | 935 | 9th | Team UPC | 925 | 10th | Team Metinvest - Slovnaft | 918 | 11th | Team Dyson | 899 | 12th | Ekspla-Maxima Cycling Team | 896 | 13th | Team Serbian Telecom | 855 | 14th | Gazprom-Rosbank | 854 | 15th | Team Petrobras - Banco do Brasil | 610 | 16th | Team Finnair-Nordea | 558 | 17th | Eurovision Cycling Team | 485 | 18th | Team Armavia | 440 |
Our goal was to finish in the top 10 here and we did, we finished right there in the 10th spot. The margins between 7th and 14th spot was rather small, several teams were very balanced results-wise. To be honest we were hoping for top 6, but some of our riders under performed a bit, especially the one we will talk about in a while.

As you can see our best rider is Ruslan Grychenko, sitiing at the 15th place in the end. Not bad you can say, but problem is that we expected a lot more from him, top 10 at least, rather even top 3/5. Why? Because Ruslan should have been the absolute best on hills of Div2 races. In the end he was far from that and majority of his points came from stage races, as he failed to enter top 3 in single day races, what a shame. We are currently thinking about what he and we did bad, but one thing is sure, Ruslan and Metinvest are both going their ways heading to 2013.

I love that you are keeping old D2 rider Zmorka for the PT season. Talk about a comeback!

Thanks guys!
@Count: To be fair, D2 Zmorka was close to useless and after that season SN changed free agent Shumilov to Zmorka and improved his stats or something like that. So now Zmorka is biggest TT man-game talent, who will max on 82TT, so it is not just because of good old D2 days.
@Heine: Well , i have exactly same opinion on Hoffman and he is my favourite non-ukrainian and Metinvest legend in the making. Only reason i even start thinking about selling him is Aidan and his team, i would never sell him to anybody else.
With that said, next to him being my favourite, he would still be extremely useful in PT, especially in the future to lead-out Grosu, so there is like 60-40 chance now i will keep him, to be honest with other managers. It will depend on how will start of the transfers influence my future squad...

In other words, something strange will happen when every plan is destroyed during the first 12 hours. Just like it does for everyone else of us...

Popovych... Would be a pretty decent domestique for Topchanyuk for 2 seasons, and he fits our nationality... Even though he's never been top priority I could consider making an offer.

Awesome jersey you got there.
A shame you want to keep Haijun Ma, though. |

Thanks Bikex, Aidan did brilliant work indeed. I also love majority of your designs, nice to have several talented people among man-game managers.
Haijun is important part of our TTT lineup and one of the fan favourites, so yeah, he is staying on 95%
@fintas: Noted. It would be great if Egger found a loanee team with german presence, but nothing is granted yet, so we will talk during transfers, looking forward to that.
@fjhoekie: If Popovych will be on the move, COC (lol) would be an obvious choice of both the rider and the Metinvest management. But his availaibility is very highly dependant on first 48 hours of transfers.

@ Sutty: Thanks mate, both Aidan and Fintas are talented guys, Metinvest is happy to have their services!
WIN, Giro d 'Italia OR Vuelta a Espana /
Top 3, Tour de France
Top 3, Copenhagen-Malmo TTT /
Top 3, Chrono des Herbiers
Avoid relegation
We enter the PT with fairly ambitious goals as one would say, but who aims low, ends low. As soon as the Metinvest project was created, the dream was to compete on the highest level of cycling, especially Grand Tours. No other races are so tough, no other races are so special and with many eyes set on them. Our goals reflect that and our transfer season will have one main purpose - bringing a GT worthy leader.
Two other goals are connected with our actual strong department, which is time trialing. Ignatiev and improved Zmorka should be the founding stones to battle the glory in famous nordic TTT and Chrono des Herbiers.
Last goal is only logical for newly promoted team and is our ultimate goal for 2015 season. In the end we are newcomers and challenging the PT veterans should be hard.

Crazy goals. Even for a team owning Spilak, I wouldn't dare to bet on those things. There are very good GC riders out there, so you have to get one of the very top guns and possibly even train him further. The TTT and TT goal (and avoid relegation) seems doable though.

Those Grand Tour goals are definitely a big risk! Especially as we're yet to know if those top class stage racers will have enough race days to do two GTs. I mean, right now, Pluchkin and Madrazo are on 40 race days with Phinney and Tenorio on 43, but that could very well change according to the DB thread.
Fingers crossed you get what you want and what you need for those two goals in the transfer season, good luck! |
