Little Q&A with the general director of the team
Spyros Kapralos, the president of the Hellenic Sports Comittee, asked all the important greek newspapers to come at his headquarters for an important announcement about cycling.
Dear journalists, i'm here to tell you that Greece will have its proper cycling team for 2015 ! I will allow only a few questions, this project has to be perfectly planned for the beginning of the season.
The questions fuses, but the journalists finally calmed down and the press conference could start.
M.Kapralos, what will be the sponsors for this team ?
The head sponsors will be our post service, Elta. Other greek brands will take a smaller place on the shirt, like Piraeus Bank and Mytilineos Holdings. We will a little international touch, with Cyprus Airways, the swiss bicycles from Scott, and the american jerseys from Nike. And of course, our comittee will have a little place on the shirt, designed by a discreet french shirt maker : Jésus de Nazareth.
Who are the riders you would like to sign ?
The majority of greek cyclists are on the free agency, so i think we'll search there first. Experimented riders like Ioannis Tamouridis could be a road captain, if he want to sign with us. Some riders of Cyprus, Switzerland and United States will be followed, to make our sponsors happy. And why not one or two riders from other countries ? Nothing is sure, it can be difficult to get the riders that we desire.
Did you plan goals for some races ?
I'm sorry, but i can't answer this question till we have our team roster complete. But we probably won't target the first places of the Continental Division. Being in the first 20 would be an attainable goal for our first season.
Elta : Postal Service
Piraeus Bank : Bank
Mytilineos Holdings : Metallurgy & Mining
Hellenic Olympic Committee : Sports Governing Body
Cyprus Airways : Airline
Scott : Bicycles
Nike : Sportswear
And more to come...

I`m sorry to tell you, but you have to pick goals first as this process will be before the transfers in some time.
I like the jersey a lot. Just like the Greek focus. |

Wondeful jersey, i love it! Good luck in the man-game.
Interesting focus, there is certainly some gap in the market, not sure how happy SotD is though.

Yay, there goes my plan to set up a team dedicated to Marios Athanasiades for next year... Have more plans ready tho, Marios team was never sure yet.
Good luck tho, the Greek market is quite interesting
EDIT: SCOTT bikes , we're very similar in some ways already

Thanks all for the positive comments on the jersey, i will tell them to the shirtmaker
@roturn : I knew that, it was just to say that i didn't plan them already Could you tell me where is the calendar to figure this out ?
@Avin : Thank you I will try to annoy him the less i can about the greek riders
@matt : Indeed, I'm proud to be the first french in this game Maybe this wild-card will come in 3-4 seasons, who knows ?
@Eden : Thanks But you probably made a mistake, my team is greek, not polish ^^
@Jesleyh : I've mostly done careers with original teams, so it was quite an evidence to make a project like this one
@jihardy : I found that better than putting tables all around my post ^^ Thanks
@fjhoekie : In fact, Athanasiades was one of my targets I hope to have good relations with you in the market

@Marsupilami and FroomeDog : Thanks for you kind works about the shirt !
@sgdanny : it would bad for two new teams to not be friends ^^
Our talented designer Jésus de Nazareth prepared for us 4 NC jerseys, while the transfer season had never been so close ! We can found of course Greece, but also Cyprus, Malta and Switzerland. We hope our future cyclists will were those !
You can found all Jésus de Nazareth's shirts here, and browse the pages to find jerseys that aren't in the summary

Oh, those ncs are beautiful! There's almost no chance you'll get a Cypriot champion on your roster tho, as Athanasiades is a Privatbank legend and Skettos is one of our 2 promising sprinters I really like as they're from obscure countries... What could potentially happen is loaning out Skettos, he'll only be a level 2 rider season as I preferred having Sinclair reach level 3...

@fjhoekie : if i can't get them, i'll try to win myself the championships at the end of the season ^^
@sutty68 : Thanks ! I hope too :)
@Avin : Thanks to the shirtmaker ^^
The transfer season might start in a few days, and the manager of Elta-Hellenic Post unveiled a list of riders wanted in the team. He knows that some of them will be very difficult or impossible to get, that's why there's a lot of free agents as a second plan. There will surely be more riders in the next days... They are here listed by the overall rating.
In bold, the riders already in other teams.

I think it's safe to say Taylor Newton will never leave Movistar, and if he does we need to rush a medical team to Mre's house. But pretty clear Greek focus of course which i like, keep you away from the riders i want

I can confirm. Sorry roro, that's just never going to happen.

@Mresuperstar : i didn't know about this story
It has been a headache to choose goals with no riders in team. But the greek area seems to be full of sprinters and baroudeurs, so the races we decided to focus on are clearly for this type of riders. Of course, we look forward to win our home race, the Acropolis GP. We also target a win on the Hanko Classic, a stage of the Benelux Challenge, and the KoM jersey of the Tour of Iceland. For the CT Standings, we'll go for a reasonable top 20.
Goal | Race | Category | Top 20 | CT Team Standings | N/A | Win | Acropolis Cup | C2HC | Win | Hanko Classic | C2 | KoM Jersey | Tour of Iceland | C2HC | Stage win | Benelux Challenge | C2HC |
The C2HC races, the most important part of our calendar, have been choosen. We went for the 3 first bands, which both contains various races types.
Thanks to Sportingnonsense for all the band informations.
| Acropolis Cup | Greece | 2 | | Giro del Trentino | Italy | 5 | | GP Herning | Denmark | 2 | | GP Yekaterinburg | Russia | 2 | | Rund um den Finanzplatz Eschborn-Frankfurt | Germany | 2 | | Tour de Pologne | Poland | 7 |
There's plenty of route variety in this race band, from the cobbles of GP Herning, to the Mountains and TTTing of Giro del Trentino, to the hills of the Tour de Pologne.
GP Herning returns to the calendar for the first time since 2012, while the Acropolis Cup will be race for the first time, around the Greek capital of Athens.
| Ruta America del Sur | South America | 8 | | Tour of Iceland | Iceland | 4 | | Tour of Scotland | United Kingdom | 6 | | Zimnyanya GP | Belarus | 2 |
A stage race heavy race band, and two of those stage races are new! With an influx of British teams into the division a new British race was inevitable, and it will be particularly pleasing to one of them that the new race will be held entirely in Scotland. British teams are not new to the game, but Icelandic teams are - and the Tour of Iceland has been launched to celebrate that.
Ruta America del Sur will continue to cut across South America, while we can look to Belarus for one of this year's flattest C2HC classics.
| La Tropicale Amissa Bongo | Algeria/Gabon | 6 | | Tatranska Klasika | Slovakia | 2 | | Tour de Langkawi | Malaysia | 10 | | Zuri Metzgete | Switzerland | 2 |
Half of this race band belongs to just one race, with the Tour de Langkawi being present once again in the MG calendar. It is not the only Mountains in this band, with the tough new Tatranska Klasika race providing a Slovakian challenge to all teams who choose to enter.
It's an unusual route for La Tropicale Amissa Bongo this year with an opening 2 stages in Algeria before a 'rest day' moving South for the conclusion of the race in Gabon. And finally, the Zuri Metzgete - which once again will end the season.
