1. Col du Portillon
2. Col de Peyresourde
3. Col de Val Louron-Azet
4. Pla d'Adet
First huge mountain stage in the Pyrenees. We are still yet to see the Shark of Messina Nibali having a bad day. Could this be the day? And Pinot Bardet Peraud Valverde will be looking to pounce whilst battling for podium spots....
Coverage starts live from 13:30 CET on Eurosport. |

Expect to see attacks on the Peyresourde, with the stage being so short. |

Beast stage... Portillon is a tough introduction, and then followed by Peyresourde which we all know, and then Pla d'Adet is basically a carbon copy of horribly steep Azet with 3km added on at the end. First 7km are at mouthwatering 9.5%. Looking forward to it

Pinot to take 2nd. A Saxo-Tinkoff guy to win(probably Majka) from the break |

While I would like to see Pinot winning (even though I like Bardet better; and btw, someone asked the danish commentators whether they were Pinots or Bardets - if I didnt knew cycling, I would have thought they were talking about wine, but thats another story ), I cant see FDJ controlling the break. But really anything can happen tomorrow, and if the break only has 4-5 in the bottom of Azet (and one of those guys arent Majka), I could see the favourties dueling it out. However, I think the Hautacam-stage is easier to control.
For you cycling-nostalgics as me, I can really recommend watching the 2005-stage to Adet. The stage was almost similar, only it was longer and included 2 more climbs, but the finish with the last 4 climbs is exactly the same. Seeing Basso and Armstrong destroying uphill, the all too loyal Klöden wheel Vino in for Ullrich, Mancebo and Rasmussen desperately trying to hold on and defend their respective GC-positions was great. That year they opened on Azet which created huge time gaps (it will almost regardless as Adet is hard as heck).
I have always wondered why ASO didnt include Pla d' Adet, a climb i always has viewed as the Pyrénéen Alp with almost identical characteristics. Glad they did it this year as it is a truly fantastic climb which I rode in 2010. If I was to choose which one of Balés and Adet was the hardest, I would definetely go for Adet. The start of the climb, actually more than half of it, is brutal and when you are on the easier parts, you are dead.
Typical and classic stage in the Pyrénées which without a doubt is my most anticipated stage to watch. |

I am not a masochist to watch the dope show of the century... (seeing that live was enough).
Anyway todays stage looks great. I also expect Pinot to do well and hope for König to maintain his GC position. Go Leo!

So l'm guessing this is the 2014 equivalent of the Alp D'Huez stage in 2011? Short, sharp, and lots of attacks. |

Now Piti won't risk a Bertie 2011 Alpe d'Huez all or nothing attack because he hasnt got the cojones for that. Then again podium is too valuable for him because hes never been on Tour podium. |

Yeah, I tried it myself too, seems like it's some problem with that tweet. Other tweets are working fine.
Anyways, here's the link of that tweet: https://twitter.c...7916590080
