I am Sir Bradley Wiggins. One of the greatest british cyclist ever. I am six time world championships on track, I have four olympic medals and in 2012 i won the greatest road cycling race: The Tour de France! I have also won a lot of minor stage races like Paris–Nice, the Tour de Romandie and the Critérium du Dauphiné.
I was born on 28 April 1980 in Ghent, Belgium. My mother, Linda, is English and my father, Gary, was Australian. My father was also professional cyclist, and was doing races in Belgium. When i was two years old, my father left me and our family. Me, my mother and my half brother Ryan moved to my grandparents house in Kilburn, London.
When I was twelwe years old I entered my first race, the West London Challenge 92. Later that year I broke my collarbone in a road accident. I received £1,700 compensation for my injury. I gave my mother £700 and used the rest to buy my first racing bicycle.
A year later I told my art teacher in school, "I'm going to be Olympic champion, I'm going to wear the yellow jersey in the Tour." That became a dream, a dream that became truth.
Personal information Full name: | Bradley Marc Wiggins | Nickname: | Wiggo | Born: | 28 April 1980 Ghent, Belgium | Nationality: | British | Height: | 1.90 m | Weight: | 69 kg | Rider type: | All-rounder |
In Tour de France 2007 Cofidis withdrew from the Tour before stage 16 after Cristian Moreni failed a doping test. Me and my team-mates were interviewed by the police and we had our hotel rooms searched. In the aftermath of the positive drug tests on Moreni and on race leader Alexander Vinokourov of Astana, I spoke out against dopers in the Tour and threw away my Cofidis kit in a bin in Pau Pyrénées Airport, vowing never to race for the team again.
I continued racing for Cofidis even though I had sworn never to return to the team, and in August I won the time trial on stage four of the Tour du Poitou-Charentes.
At the end of the season i decided to sign a contraact with T-Mobile Track Team. My good friend Mark Cavendish, was riding for them (Both road and track). I only did appearance for them, when i raced the Track World Cup Classics in Bejing. I won a gold medal in the individual pursuit and silver in the Madison with Mark.
The 10th December 2009 was a big day for me. I signed a four-year contract with Team sky. I had a good time on Garmin, and was expecting better at Sky. In May I took my first Grand Tour victory. The opening time trial of Giro d'Italia. I got the pink Jersey! I only wore it one day, because I was cuaght behind a big crash. I finished the race 40th overall, and was saving my legs for the Tour. At the Tour my legs wasn't what i was expecting. I had a terrible Tour de France and again only finished in 24th place.
In 2011 I took the overall lead in the Critérium du Dauphiné, I finished the race at the best rider! It was my biggest result on the road ever! I had planned the early season completely different than last year, The Giro was not a good preparation for the Tour, for me! In June I won the national road race championship in Northumberland. I was really happy to represent my home country at the Tour! On stage 7 of the Tour, I crashed around 40 km from the finish in Châteauroux. It forced me to retire from the race with a broken collarbone. Later that year i finished third behind Juan José Cobo and my teammate Chris Froome.
I took silver medal in road world championships in Copenhagen. I finished one minute and fifteen seconds behind Germany's Tony Martin, and four seconds ahead of reigning world champion Fabian Cancellara in third.
In 2012 i had my best season ever! I won both the Tour de Romandie, Paris–Nice and Critérium du Dauphiné in my preparations for the Tour de France. On stage 19 i won the final time trial, with one minute and sixteen seconds to my teammate Chris Froome. On the last stage I helped my team-mate Cavendish achieve his fourth consecutive victory on the Champs-Élysées and confirmed my own overall victory in the Tour de France.I became the first, and is currently the only person in history to win the Paris–Nice, the Tour de Romandie, the Critérium du Dauphiné and the Tour de France in a single season.
I was selected to participate in two road cycling events at the Olympic Games in London – the time trial and the road race. I won gold in the time trial ahead of Tony Martin and Chris Froome. By doing so I became the most decorated British Olympian, with seven medals, surpassing the six won by Sir Steve Redgrave. This record is now shared with Sir Chris Hoy, who also obtained his seventh Olympic medal in 2012.
In October I was awarded the prestigious "Vélo d'Or" trophy. That year i also won "BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award", "GQ Lifetime Achievement", "Sports Journalists' Association's Sportsman of the Year", "Cyclingnews.com Rider of the Year", "Bidlake Memorial Prize" and was nominated for "Laureus World Sports Sportsman of the Year Award" wich Usain Bolt won.
On 28 December it was announced that I was to be knighted in the 2013 New Years Honours for services to cycling. That was the end of a fantastic year!
2013 was a year to forget. I only won one stage race, and chrased out of Giro d'Italia. I still had pain in my knee, when I was approaching the Tour. I got a bit angry and subsequently suggested that I may never ride the Tour again.
Later that year i won a time trial in Tour de Pologne, and won my home race: the Tour of Britain! Winning my home country's biggest race was almost as good as winning the Tour! The following week at the world championships, I took the silver medal in the time trial, behind winner Tony Martin and ahead of Fabian Cancellara in a repeat of the 2011 podium
Now i'm ready to make new dreams for 2014, and live them out in reality!

Awesome start, great layout. Looking forward what Wiggo can do this year. Also leaving Sky would be good move, Tour would be more intense against Froome ;D

Absolutely great introduction & layout, something that was expected from a graphic maker such as you. I don't really like Wiggins too much, but now that he left Sky... I'm interested.
I'll be following, definitely!

Good luck. A little bit of Froome/Wiggins Melodrama would make for a enjoyable read but of course the sport shoudl be the focus I think. Very nice introduction.

Thanks to everyone who wish me good luck, it's really appreciated and keeps me motivated for keep working.
And to all those who would like to see some drama between Froome and Wiggins. So I want to, without revealing too much, tell that something comes later on.
I will also say that this is my first story in English. So, there is a reason if the grammar is not quite right
Next update is comming up tomorrow!

It is not a secret that the relationship between me and Froome is a bit tense. I almost walked out of the 2012 Tour de France, which I won, because I felt I had was "stabbed in the back" by Chris. After the 12th stage of the Tour I sent this message to our sport director Sean Yates: "I think it would be better for everyone if I went home." I think it is the time to tell the truth now. In the press, there has been rumors that Chris and me has drawn a line under the troubles that have dogged our relationship. However, that is not true, and that is why I have been calling you into this press conference.
From today I’ve chosen to stop my partnership with Team Sky, and has signed a one-year contract with the World tour Team Orica - GreenEdge.
Shayne Bannan and Matt White comes in to the room.
Shayne took the word:
I want your all to welcome one of our new captains for 2014: Sir Bradley Wiggins!
A smile came to my lips.
When we heard that Bradley wanted to move, we acted quick, and wanted to be sure to see him in our colors this season. Both I and the rest of the staff is optimistic to Wiggins, and I think with the right training he can be in top of cycling again! Wiggins has proved that with the right training you can break down the walls between the types of cyclist! Wiggins biggest goal is therefore a very different type of race, but you can explain that yourself. Yes of course, this year I am going to try something different. I'm going to turn into a classic rider and participate in Paris - Roubaix, and then turn back to ride mountains and do Tour de France.
