Welcome everyone to my new story. It´s been a long time, since I have started my last one and yes, I have missed that quite a lot. But after all, I have got more time again and I am motivated to write another team story. To be honest the level of story writing in this forum is incredible high right now. Not comparable to the first years of PCM.DAILY, which is also a reason, to try my best for another time.
This one is about Omega Pharma - Quick-Step, which is one of my favourite teams at the moment, including some favourite riders, such as Tom Boonen or Mark Cavendish.
The whole team was doing a little training session together in front of the new season, so all the new guys were able to meet their new mates. Especially Mark Cavendish was quite happy to see his good friend and former leadout man Mark Renshaw back on the same team. Looks like he was waiting for him....
Also I am glad to see Tom Boonen in this team. Since I am interested in cycling, Boonen was my favourite rider. He got some great results not only on the cobblestones, but also at the Tour and of course he is a former World Champ. I am pretty sure, he will be able to give some big results to our team this season.
Let´s have a look at the whole team squad for 2014. As I said, good to see one of the best sprinter on our team, Mark Cavendish . With Mark Renshaw , we got maybe the best leadout man in professionell cycling.
Talking about the best in cycling, we have to mention another successful rider, called Tony Martin . The three times world champion in time trial, is currently the best in this category. Is he able to get some big wins this season, including a fourth WC?
Furthermore there are also some great climbers, puncheurs and stage racing guys on our team. Such as Rigoberto Uran , Michal Kwiatkowski and Thomas De Gendt . For sure that is going to be interesting to see those guys riding the Grand Tours and all those one day classics in spring.
Last but not least, of course Tom Boonen. His favourite terrain is the flat one, even better when there is some cobblestone. Overall our team is prepared brilliantly for those cobblestone races in spring. Tom has some big help by Zdenek Stybar , Niki Terpstra and Stijn Vandenbergh .
Some basic information about the story

Alright let´s see what our sponsor is expecting this season. In my opinion those are quite heavy objectives.
As you can see, many of them assume a first place, especially the one day classics in spring. That means Tom Boonen and his cobblestone squad have to be on fire, same with Mark Cavendish in San Remo. We are not sure up to here who is going to lead our team at the hilly classics. Maybe Rigoberto Uran or Kwiatkowski, maybe both?
Well a stage win in Italy and Spain should not be a big problem. We are also expecting a nice overall finish, as we are going to send Rigoberto Uran to the Giro and the Vuelta as leader. But a Top 5 in France might be a very hard thing to reach. We are planning to send Kwiatkowski as our leader, so that might be the most interesting objective. To be honest, I am really looking forward to that. So finally we can start the season.

Good luck! Seems you're an experienced story writer from a while ago, so you should be able to live up to the task that is OPQS. A very strong squad this year for sure. |

Yay! You're back, absolutely great to see :-D
You might need to crank up the level to extreme soon :-P In terms of PCM ( and kinda real life too although not at much) this OPQS team is ridiculously amazing.

Thanks MrUfo
Australian Championship
As always a quite hilly road race here in Down Under. There is just one Australian guy in our team, Mark Renshaw. It might not be his favourite terrain, so we don´t expect too much. Richie Porte, Cadel Evans or Simon Gerrans should be the aspirants for the win.
A group of 7 riders were able to get away from the pack today. Most famous names in it, were Christopher Sutton (Sky) and Steele von Hoff (Garmin Sharp).
We decided to stay in the pack with Mark, as we thought there wouldn´t be a breakaway win today. Anyway the little group got a nice gap of more than 5 minutes.
Orica GreenEdge was the strongest team with Goss, Matthews and Gerrans and so they had to chase the break. Mark just tried to stay behind them, saving as much energy as possible.
The break was almost caught but then Orica GreenEdge slowed down the pace and Gerrans had to react. He started the only attack on the last uphill section. No one went after him.
It was too late for Gerrans, as the breakaway group already started to fight for the win. Von Hoff pulled the sprint from scratch with Chris Sutton on his wheel.
That´s it! Steele von Hoff takes the win and is going to wear the jersey this season. Pretty unlucky for Orica and their sprinters. Mark came in on a 16th place. There could have been a sprint today with Mark in a good position but unfortunately Orica GreenEdge and some other teams didn´t work enough for it.

@ VoetsT That´s nice to hear, thanks
Tour de San Luis
Team Omega Pharma - Quick-Step
Mark Cavendish
Thomas De Gendt
Carlos Verona
Andrew Fenn
Julien Vermote
Petr Vakoc
Just a few words about our small squad for San Luis. Thomas De Gendt is our leader as he might be able to prove his strength on the hilly stages and of course in the time trial. His main help on the uphill parts is Carlos Verona the young Spaniard. Mark Cavendish and Andrew Fenn will try to set some nice sprints and hopefully the first win for Omega Pharma - Quick-Step in 2014!
The competition is not that strong here in San Luis but still good enough. Especially Sky is sending a nice squad including Kennaugh and Siutsou. Movistar comes with Visconti and Gadret and Belkin is leaded by Kelderman. So there are some guys for a possible overall win. We will see if Thomas De Gendt is able to beat them. We are looking forward to those critical stages ( Stage 3 - Stage 6). Our goal is to win at least one stage and a Top 3 overall position in the end. |
