Criterium Hainleite Preview
June 4, 2013 : Europe HC : Germany
A year ago saw Marcel Wyss win in a photo finish over Vanspeybrouck. Wyss has since moved on to join the PT team Wiggle while Vanspeybrouck is still the team captain of BPost. The route is unchanged but it does go from a hilly to flat rating like many races have this season. So does that make Vanspeybrouck the overwhelming favourite as he tries to get revenge for his lost last season? Maybe, but here are the men he is up against...
Baugnies was been battling Vanspeybrouck all season and why should it been any different here. He comes in a little shaken after getting beat by Vanspeybrouck in both the cobbled stages of the 5 Jours de Dunkerque. But he was shown he can beat him as he got 2nd in De Brabantsje Pijl after out-sprinting his counterpart.
Eisel already has the credentials by winning E3 and De Brabantsje Pijl while teammate Breschel just won the Avila Classic, but he won't be joining Eisel here in Germany. It's a team that just wants to stop BPost dominance in the cobbles and so far they have been doing a great job of that.
Then it's the C2 cobbled superstars that have been granted a wildcard to race in this HC race, Maes and Coyot. Coyot has the only win by the duo so far by taking C2 Nokere – Koerse but both have been getting really close in taking victories lately. Maes getting 3rd at the Lincoln GP and Coyot finishing 2nd at the Avila Classic.
Cobblers that usually finish in the top 10 this season that have made the trip to Germany to contest our top favourites are:
Jacobs
Gaudin and Sieberg
Veelers
Haussler
Albert
Lastly are two sprinters that deserve a shout-out. The faster of the two
Vantomme and the man that has yet to prove his skill set Ventoso.

Are the cobbles really that selective? Pretty sure I didn't have this HC race high on my list ... but either way, I hope some of my riders can make it through those short sections of cobbles. |

This should be a wide open race. Sprinters should have a good shot as well as cobblers who can sprint - like AMEX's Bernhard Eisel.
I would not be suprised to see a punchuer get into the break and make it very hard for the sprint teams to catch up and to form up.
AMEX brought a mixed bag of Sprinters (Kupfernagel & Selig), along with Eisel. We also brought two Punchuers (Barredo & Chavanel) and the rest are youngsters in support.
Should be fun to watch this one unfold.

Most of the top10 from last year's race had less than 65 COB. On the other hand good cobblers like Boom and Vanspeybrouck did very well. Also the rating as Mre stated has been changed from hilly to flat.
I think the problem with the cobblestones here is they raise the risk of crashes a lot (happened last year) and will probably help to randomize the results.
I'll cash my money on Breschel and my hope on Ventoso.

I hope it's not much money
Breschel just won the Avila Classic, but he won't be joining Eisel here in Germany
I'm banking Ventoso to take it in the sprint from a small group. Unless he does a stupid attack like in Avila.

Biggest race of the season for us. That said there's a lot of riders with bigger chances than Veelers. Just hope for a lucky break.

Ahah honest mistake. Breschel, Eisel who cares? it's going to be another win for Amex one way or another

Podium would be great but I doubt it will be that selective. Eisel seems like a great bet.

Don't expect a good result here, but I do want us to attack.

Eisel for this one, to continue great cobbled season for AMEX. BPost and HTC leaders should complete the podium.

Last year I came with Boom and Vantomme and so Vantomme didn`t look for a good position.
This year I hope for Vantomme to get a good position as the cobbles shouldn`t be that selective. 5 downhill cobbled sections that aren`t long hopefully won`t make it too selective.
In case of attacks Eisel or Vanspeybrouck are dangerous. So I hope for a top10 here. |

Nooytens' time to shine. Let's see how he can do against superpowers HTC, AMEX and Bpost. A top 10 would be great, but I doubt that the cobbled sections will doo too much damage though, maybe a puncheur will win this one? |

... What just happened?
I mean... holy fucking shit... I'm seriously stunned. Like... wow...
Thanks for the report, I was on the edge of my seat. As Vanspeybrouck was reeled in I was swearing a lot... then as the sprint went on I was swearing for a different reason.
EDIT: 341 points from 2 race days... wow...
