The profile/
The Lincoln GP is maybe one of the most prestigious C2's cobbled classics this year and it's no surprise that we will see the division's very best cobblers here in Britain.
A challenging circuit (which has to be raced 13 times for 160km in total) awaits the riders, featuring a short but very tough climb: the Michaelsgate. While it's only 700 meters long, it's averaged with 7.7% slopes and 14% maximum.
The race had is MG-debut in 2012, held as a PCT-race: Pieter Vanspeybrouck took the honours, by beating Frederik Nolf and Adam Blythe.. but also Nikolaes Maes (for Bpost) as 8th and Arnaud Coyot (Trilux) as 11th did well back then. An advantage for their new team, Allianz?
The startlist/
The favorites/
Like already mentioned, Nikolaes Maes and his super-domestique Arnaud Coyot know this race from last season. Both are expected to fight for the win with less stronger competition this year.
Gert Steegmans is always to be seen as Maes' toughest opponent and even though his team Banco lacks cobbles-skills, he already proved that he's capable of finishing within the leading groups.
Geraint Thomas is always a question mark when it comes to rather hilly cobbled classic like Lincoln GP. But Boeing has shown, that they can also rely on it's helpers, like James Sparling at IWT Oetingen.
Die Berg brings a strong potential contender in Niki Østergaard. He's shown more than once that his aggressive tactics can lead to good results.
Jonas Vangenechten is a similar type of rider, as he often tries to attack rather early in a race. Same goes for his teammate Roy Sentjens and in a race like Lincoln, this can definitely play out well.
also hopes for at least two of their riders to do well here: Christopher Stevenson and fast finishing Aleksei Saramotins.
Cadbury has finally shown some good racing in Dunkerque and future Kiwi-star Tom David proved his talent impressively. Also veteran Mark Renshaw may join the mix of Top-10 contenders.
Juan Antonio Flecha is just another veteran, who yet has to prove that he's still capable of finishing high. A tough challenge.
Øystein Stake Laengen already had one good result in Projec and looks to repeat a succesful race like he had back then.
The other teams ANC, airBaltic and Credexbank will try to make some dangerous breakaway groups, as this looks like their only chance to finish well. |

Backing Thomas. The hill makes surprisingly little difference, but combined with the narrow roads and cobbles it does cut the field down, but only as a result of positioning rather than ability. Thomas with his nationality bonus has to win this race, otherwise he will never win ever ever ever ever ever ever etc...
Behind him its the usual ones to watch etc... we all know how this works now

The narrow roads have been replaced this time, thanks to SN

Well then the hill will have even less of an impact! Which is even better news for G

I'll bet on Steegmans... to finish 2nd again. Dark horse is, for me, Thomas. |

Will be interesting to see how this plays out with normal width roads. It was quite a selective race last year, but the combination of wider roads and the PCM12 AI could prevent that from happening again.
Should be for Maes.

Hoping for a top 5.
Does the hill stat play at least a small part? Or none at all?

Its a 100% hill ratio stage (i assume, as its classed as flat), but its the fact that the hill is very short and cobbled that reduces its effect in terms of stats. The cobbles cause vastly more damage than the slope or length, and as always with these types of hill the splits come over the top as riders speed up at various points, so it also comes down to positioning around the summit. But that is also countered by the long run between ascents, allowing most groups to come back together over most of the race.
I feel i have played this stage too much...

This can lead to 100 men sprint also, hoping for more selective race, just from the spectators point of view. Good luck all, rooting for fellow east-Europeans Boeing here, go G!

I think we may see a surprisingly selective race.
Whatever happens though I consider Steegmans to be big favourite meaning of course he'll miss the top step of the podium once more.

Guess you won't be the only one
Btw, I enjoyed this race. Some may moan, but in the end it was quite selective and saw some action on the road. Congrats to all satisfied managers

That was a brutal race. McLay shone at home, too. Awesome stuff

Classic Lincoln cluster-fuck... This race is always hilarious as its shreds early and hard then never settles down. The only way to win is to be in the lead group with 2 laps to go, which G did not do. Definitely time to call this season lost and think how we'll move forward next season...
Good win for Stevensen in the end as well

Damn ... or not. I'm happy because the podium and another good finishers, but it was 3 of my riders in first group and we missed the win. But 50 points are 50 points so i'm happy |

Terrible job by Vangenechten and Sentjens. In a race like this you need to stay near the front. They obviously got caught by a split.

What a great little race for Cadbury's quite pleased that they are competing now - when putting together the planner for them I felt it was really important to maximise the potential of their younger riders.
Some predicted a 120 man sprint but we actually got a classic crit style race.
Enjoyed that one thanks Tsmoha
