There is a thread for the Ardennes classics. Wink

Yes, but a Monument gets its own thread. Smile

I don't know why but, tony gallopin who finished 39th in amstel and 16 at the Fleche Wallonie seems like a real dark horse for a top ten finish

I doubt it. FW can't be compared to LBL at all. Far shorter and not ridden at high pace for anywhere near as long.

His Amstel result is more of an indication of what he might be capable of, imo.

Maxime, just look the size of the pack in Flèche and then think about what you said. Wink

I think in 3 riders for the win in LBL:

Gerrans, Gilbert, Valverde.

But, why not another surprise winner like Amstel and Fleche?

yea, but after what happened @ amstel, I think that some one we really dont expect to sneak up on people, I guess most likely not Gallopin, but maybe a nordhoug or some one like that

I hope kwiatkowski can end on the podium, he really deserves it imo.
Winners never quit, quitters never win.

baseballlover312
Dan Martin and Bauke Mollema are my outsiders to take it.

fosforgasXIII
I really doubt Gilbert will win, he hasn't convinced me yet that his form is good enough. His form isn't even not as good as in 2010, when he only won AGR.

For me Valverde is the main favourite, or maybe we get another surprise.

TheManxMissile
You've got to look at the guys coming out of Trentino as real contenders.
Nibali especially so. Great ride last year and i can see him coming up with another top finish.

Dan Martin has been showing well so far this campaign so i expect him to be in the mix. Gilbert stepped it up last year for LBL so he must be a threat.
Gerrans skipped Fleche so will be fresher and has been on form this season.
Valverde was good in Amstel so if he has a wheel to suck expect a good finish from him.
And i have to mention Kwiatkowski. Great season for him, the drugs are really working! But this will be one too far. I expect a solid result but nothing better than 8th imo.

But i think this race will be won by an attacker, someone going away on the run towards Liege like Nibali and Iglinskiy last year. There are a lot of real strong contenders and they will all watch each other. Whoever goes big early will be the in the driving seat to win.

It was his weakest performance in the hilly classics actually.

fcancellara
Not being nationalistic, but I think some of the Dutchies for example Mollema, Weening or Slagter (though 258km might be too much for him) could win this the way Kreuziger won Amstel.

If Nibali is commited before the Giro he is clearly going very well already.

i wouldn't say that, if that's true, he's peaked too early... i don't think that's the case

i'm just not convinced about Gilbert (or BMC as a winning classics team in general), but don't really know who will win
might just sit this one out (betting wise)

valverde321
If Valverde is strong enough on the day... I wish he'd actually ride a different style here, but his mindset is always that if it comes to a sprint he's got a great chance (which he does).

Im kinda hoping someone like Purito or GIlbert make an attack from further out, forcing him to follow so its not a typical hilly sprint.

Avin Wargunnson
L-B-L is almost never a hilly sprint iirc. You guys are looking on the wrong names maybe, this is more of a climbers country.

My three favourites are Nibali, Kreuziger and Henao. Froome can be a dark horse, or maybe even Andy can try some attack in one of two races he cares about.

Is Santambrogio team going? Because he is insane this year...

Sadly they won't be there Frown

I'd like to see Quintana doing well, maybe this race would suit him better than Amstel and Fleche did.

Fleche suits him extremely well, but it's his first time riding Ardennes so there shouldn't be many expectations on him.

About Dutchies, can't see any of them winning. Mollema is always good enough for Top 10, but there's always at least few people better than him.He proved it last year, he's proving it this year. If he wants to win he has to attack ala Kreuziger in Amstel.

Kreuziger is definitely a good pick considering the form. Froome and Nibali should do very well. As should Valverde and Henao. That could be the Top 5 right here.

However as in any race we will have some surprises, Kwiatkowski making another top 5 would be spectualar as well Smile
