 Corsica International
Stage 1 is a short sprinter's stage to begin the race. A bunch sprint is the only expected outcome here.
On 2nd stage the riders changed a discipline slightly. It's a long-ish prologue / short ITT at 9.3km. It shouldn't decide much, however valuable seconds will be gained here.
Stage 3 is the big decider. With 4 categorized climbs on the way to Col de l'Ospedale we should expect plenty of fireworks along the way.
Cote de Roccapina & Viggianello are the first two climbs that will test the favoruite's legs today. They shouldn't cause many problems, but as said it's a good early test.
After short descent from Viggianello we will find two big challenges ahead of the cyclists. Col de Sainte-Lucie-de-Tallano and Col de Bacinu.
Col de Sainte-Lucie-de-Tallano is the longer of the two with high gradients throughout, just easing on the top. Col de Bacinu is shorter, but might have bigger impact after the climbers felt their legs on previous climb. We will expect many riders to drop here, and this might be the perfect launchboard for attacks to come.
After long descent and bit of easier racing, the riders will face last obstacle of the day. The big decider. Col de L´Ospedale.
14.2 km long climb with average gradient of 6.2% ( in the game the gradients are higher, average gradient would be about 7% for most parts ). In last 3km of the stage the gradients ramp up to 10% meaning only strongest will be able to fight for victory here. It will be one hell of a show. But who's coming to the race ? Well, let's found out.

Bouygues Telecom is led by the big favourite for the overall triumph here in  Rein Taaramäe who is looking in great shape following his victory in the Kenya Mountain Classic. He'll be looking to gain as much time possible on his other rivals in the prologue with his superior skills as well.
He doesn't have great support with Camier being the other standout climber, but Rein should be good enough to be able to cope without many helpers on the last climb Tony Martin is another rider tipped to score some points in the TT.

Armavia brings their A squad here, however it will be tough for them to be a factor in the GC fight.  Dylan Girdlestone is the team's best climber, and will target Top 20 which might be hard to get.
However the team will field the big favourite for stage 1 in Lo Cicero. He will be hoping to justify his price tag with good performance on first 2 stages and will be vital if Armavia is to score good amount of points here. King of Mountain Jersey might be the big target for the team here as well.

VolksWagen-Mapei bring a big favourite for the GC here in  Martijn Kezier. He's not the best climber in the race, but his great TT skills should give him a small advantage over many contenders here, and his climbing skills should be enough for challenging a podium here if the mountain stage is not very selective.
He has a good support in Delgado, Zurita & Anacona. In Castañeda they have a sprinter who can challenge for the win on stage 1. Well balanced team present.

CSC-Orbea is the next team on the list and no surprise too see their big star lined up here.  David Abal will be the clear leader here, and with both great climbing and ITT skills he will be looking for a podium place at the end. His team support is limited however with Koldo Gil being the only clear helper for the mountain stage.

Tinkoff Bank - Rosneft OJSC had an excellent start to the year so far and will be hoping to continue in this fashion here as well, they certainly should so at least. In  Timofey Kritskiy we see another massive contender present in this field, he is another rider that climbs and time trials in great fashion and will be challenging for the top spots in both stages here. Kunshin is an excellent support rider to have and should help Kritskiy whenever he needs him.

Metinvest-Emirates brings a very solid team here, and with no big surprise another massive contender.  Jaroslav Popovych is yet another name combing two disciplines needed here to stand a chance of great result, Top 5 will be the goal but I am sure the manager will be secretly hoping for something more as well. Dabrowski & Hesjedal offer solid support, however not the strongest team here in terms of pure climbing power as expected.

 Pozzovivo began the year in great fashion after winning in Trentino and will hope to continue like he left off. His TT skills might hinder his chances, albeit very slightly, however he's a Top 3 climber here in this field and with his great support stats will be looking for good results here to continue Vespa's promotion fight. Bosisio should be his biggest support when it comes to the last stage.

LukOil-Rostelekom is a moutain powerhouse, at least they look that as a team on paper.  Vladimir Karpets is their big leader and comes with high expectations to perform. He isn't a best climber here, but should gain some time on others in the ITT. A top 5 would be a good result for the Russian outfit here. Izagirre & Vorontsov should offer solid enough support mostly.

AMEX is one of few teams that doesn't have a big climbing name in the squad here, however they offset that by bringing a top sprinter here in  Danilo Kupfernagel. He should be 2nd favourite for first stage along Lo Cicero.
Patrick Gretsch could be well a dark horse for the ITT too. For the last stage Sylvain Chavanel, the French hero looks like the best option, however going into break should be his best option of a good result.

Prio Porto brings a vary varied squad here. For the first stage they have a deadly looking combo of  Óscar Avelino & Samuel Caldeira.
For the next two stages they bring their big transfer buy of Rubén Plaza who should perform equally strong in the ITT and the climbing stage, who's not the favorite in any of those, but can provide him with a chance of strong result here.

WWE brings their new leader of the team to the race.  Mauricio Ardila is the team's top climber, but may be hindered by his ability against the clock. The division top talent in Dombrowski will be important rider to help Ardilla through last stage and position him well close to the end. Vingerling should seek a good result on stage one.

Team Bintang brings one of the best climbers in the world and the best in the divison -  Jose Alarcon. He ruled the division last year, but won't find it so easy this year with much tougher competition. The Estonian Rein Taarame will prove a deadly challenge in this race particularly. His weaker supporting stats as well as weak time trialling ability may hinder his chances, but the last stage should providing enough climbing to cause many gaps and offset any lost time.
Alarcon also brings a great team to support him on the last stage which may prove vital Orozco & Raisin particularly strong helpers in the team De Fauw also offers them an option of grabbing some points on first stage.

Repsol-Cativen brings a very solid mountain team with no clear leader in their team, however with 4 very strong climbers here, they should have plenty of options to play on last stage.  Wilmer Vasquez is on paper the strongest climber, however he lacks the supporting stats to make him clear leader.
Cano Ardila and Agudelo, along Ortega provide plenty of firepower for the team on the deciding stage, however what they achieve is fairly unpredictable.

Evian - MIAT brings their big transfer scoop in form of  José Serpa. However with the short prologue not suiting him especially it might be difficult for him to make up the time to other stronger time trialist on last stage. However a lot can happen and Serpa can get anything from a win to being outside Top 10 here.
Landa and Sarmiento should provide solid support as well. Andrea Guardini can showcase his massive talent on the flat stage possibly.

Swedbank-PEAB brings their leader here in  Thomas Lövkvist and he'll be on a tough fight here to grab a Top 10 here, he's not the top climber neither ITT'er and might be at disadvantage here, however he brings a strong support in form of Eltink and Bjelkmark that should help him achieve a strong result here. The opening stage will be interesting one for the team where Ahlstrand will be hoping to show off his talent and to justify massive price tag.

Pivovarna Laško unexpected signing, and a risky one at that,  Stjin Devolder leads the team here. He however proved his skills after the stage win in Trentino already. and will be looking for another surprising result here. With some good form and racing the Belgian should target Top 10, however even this task will be a challenge in this field. Borrajo provides the team with an solid option in the first stage.

Team UPC brings their big star here,  Kai Reus however he's not expected to contest the GC here. His great TT skills will make him one of the many contenders in the ITT, however his climbing skills might not be enough for a respectable GC place at the end.
However the team has big hopes on the first stage with few decent sprinters in the team. Van Poppel , Priamo and Hopman should be a formidable force and if they set a good train, they might be hard to beat. Elijzen offers them another chance in the TT.

Alstom-RBC don't bring a top contender to the race, however in  Ivars and Gadret they have two very interesting cards to play in the race, added with the nationality bonus and they may well be a threat. It's unexpected they will come with the top favoruites, but a late attack by either of them could prove beneficial.
They have a solid team here in support, with young stars like Boily or Houle present, as well as Morabito or Meier.

Cisco comes to the race without either of their two leaders and fields rather young team with small hopes of success. In  Vesely hey have a contender on stage 1 that could certainly surprise the favoruties. For the ITT they field the Luxembourgian ITT Champion, Clesen, however it will be hard for him to score any points here. Finally they have Possoni and Schelling for possible attackers on stage 3, however it's hard to see for them to gain any big points here.

Categorized last in the startlist is the Jaguar - Eritel, they clearly do not need bring a clear favourite to any stage and field very youthful squad seeking to experience great racing.  Teklehaimanot will lead team's tiny hopes of a good GC, breaks on stage 1 and 3 will be expected by the team. However the team fields both Ian Stannard and Andrew Tennant, who should challenge for a great result on stage 2, the ITT.

At what point did I think it was a good idea to not bring Oscar Solis to support Rein?
Anyway, a win is a must here, without it, I'll start doubting whether promotion is achievable

Great preview Alakagom, must have taken forever! 
Just need an average point haul here to keep in the middle of the pack, but Abal did get 2nd in Kenya so who knows what is going to happen, fingers crossed.

I doubt I'll get a very good result here. A top 10 GC would be a very pleasant surprise, and with some margins on my side - manageable.

Excellent preview of this race.
I'm hoping Pozzo being outside the top 10 going into the climb will play into his hands and he might be cut a bit of slack to build a gap that can't be closed on the back of an attack. Of course, same thing might go in an even bigger way for Alarcon! |

First stage: Castenada sits on Kupfernagels wheel and use his train to win
Second stage: Keizer takes it, duh
Third stage: Keizer sits on Alarcons wheel, gets second and wins the GC
One can dream, right?
Anyway, to be more serious I believe that Avelino will win the first stage, don't know why, just got a feeling. Second stage I really hope that Keizer will win, it's his (and Castenadas) start of the season, will be really interesting to see how it goes. Third stage I'm afraid of, alot of great climbers here, just hope that Keizer can keep up with them. If he can go into the stage in the leaders jersey everything can happen (I hope). Will also be interesting to see my team, could be my future GT-train (Preidler, Brändle and Anacona, just missing Brenes, but with Zurita and Delgado instead of him)

Enormously stuffed startlist, but that was expected with just three days and such a prestige. I dream for top3 for Popovych, but the game seems lacking some love for diesel climbers of his type (he usually attacks stupidly), so somewhere between 4-8 is realistic placement.
The preview is great Alakagom, wonderful job.

This really should be exactly what it says on the tin a big mountain schmoz, brilliant preview and as we ave seen throughout Alak has superb presentation in the stages.
It's hard to believe just how ordinary Alarcon (and i don't mean the crappy Armavia one) has been thus far this year, could this be his breakout? I don't know Taaramae, Kritskiy and Pozzovivo are top draw guys.
